Why I joined TEU Sally Boyd
Kia ora, I joined TEU because it is a national union with a large membership. It is well resourced with specialist personnel, and it has strong presence in most tertiary organisations in New Zealand. TEU has a long tradition of supporting members employed in the tertiary sector. I am proud to be a member of this union and strongly recommend TEU to my tertiary colleagues.
I first joined TEU as a result of my belief that unions play an extremely valuable role in protecting workers’ employment situations and conditions, especially for those who are on lower wages or who have less bargaining power. Through our involvement with TEU my organisation has maintained great working conditions for all staff as shown by our strong collective employment agreement. TEU have also supported us to keep upto-date with developments in employment policy, and have, on many occasions, assisted us to engage in strategic problem-solving which has resulted in a better environment.

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi Kia ora! This is the first time that I have joined a union. I chose TEU because when I asked around, I was told that this was a strong union that works hard to support its members. I have only been a member for 6 months, but in this time I have experienced this support first-hand and have felt very happy that I do not stand alone and that there are people who do understand the issues I need advice or support on. I look forward to becoming more involved and supporting others through the union.

The union has always been part of my life. I have confidence that TEU is there to support me and I do not have to stand alone to ensure my working conditions are safe and reasonable and remuneration is fair.
