Welcome to the 2022 TMC Trailers Trucking Industry Show
This is the fourth show that NZ Trucking Association has organised, and it is a whopper. Double the show space, heaps more exhibitors than 2018, new product launches, the introduction of industry competitions, working displays, kid zone with all free activities and careers transport are just a few attractions in store for visitors.
We are delighted to introduce the TR Group New Zealand Truck Driving Championships that will be held at the show to find New Zealand’s truck driving champions. We look forward to seeing drivers from all over New Zealand compete for one of the six prizes up for grabs. This is an important showcase of the skill that is required to drive a heavy vehicle, which is not often celebrated or promoted to the public.
The show is all about celebrating those that keep the trucks moving – from the drivers to mechanics and

suppliers. It is time to get together and celebrate a job well done. This is now an unmissable event in the road transport calendar.
Lots of things are happening, so make sure you check the event schedule and plan to be here for the whole day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the NZ Trucking Association’s team of Carol McGeady, Dave Boyce and Debbie Neame, along with all the volunteers who have worked extremely hard to organise and run the show. Enjoy and please give us your feedback.

Load Restraint System. A secure load is a safe load. The Strapngo Load Restraint system allows Drivers to secure their load easier, quicker and in a safe manner. We know Drivers have sustained injuries from throwing straps, twitch chains or while climbing on loads to securing them, this system means no more of that! The Strapngo Load Restraint System can be fitted during a new build or retro fitted into curtainside units nationwide.

Palfinger Truck-Mounted Crane Championships
Who is New Zealand’s best truckmounted crane operator?
Palfinger New Zealand are proud to sponsor the 2022 New Zealand Crane Championships. Palfinger has established itself as a world market and technology leader in truck-mounted cranes.
A world-class course will be set up so that competitors can showcase their skills and measure their abilities against those of their peers.
This competition will run on 25/26 November alongside the 2022 TMC Trailers Trucking Industry Show, held at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch. The competition heats will take place Friday and finals on Saturday. Competitors must have a valid Truck Loader Crane Licence.
Finalists will compete for the grand title with the winner announced at the Industry Awards function that evening. The competition will be judged by three judges using a points system. Be fast – the best time wins! Time isn’t everything, however, and competitors will also be judged on their skill to operate the crane in a safe and smooth operation – penalties will apply.
All competitors will receive a Palfinger prize pack with the winner taking home the grand prize of $1000 cash, a Palfinger model crane and the 2022 Winners Trophy, with the runner up receiving $500 cash.
“We are very excited to see this competition come together,” says Duncan Phillips, general manager of Palfinger NZ. “Seeing all the highly skilled operators come together to compete is going to be a spectacle and a lot of fun.”
TOGETHER STRONGER.

The New Zealand Forklift Operator Championships are back, with a sweet prize for the winner plus bragging rights.
Forklifts are used in a variety of ways in New Zealand and the course will not be biased or designed to suit any one industry. It will showcases the fundamental skill set required of all forklift operators, regardless of what size machine or environment they operate within.
Thanks to the New Zealand Forklift Industry Association for sponsoring the national Forklift Operator Championships, with the support of AB Equipment. Operators will compete to claim the title of Best Forklift Operator 2022, plus $1000 cash for the winner and $500 for runner up. The heats have taken place around the country on15 October, with overflow heats running on the Friday of the TMC Trucking Industry Show,
for those that missed out. The finals will take place on Saturday 26 November and will be another great spectacle to see at the show! It takes a great deal of skill to operate these machines with speed and accuracy, so take your seat on the grandstands and see for yourself. The competition will be short and exciting, using a standard Counterbalance Toyota Forklift. Finalists will be celebrated at the Teletrac Navman Industry Awards Function on Saturday evening following the show. TR Group New Zealand Truck Driving Championships 2022
Very rarely do we get to see the country’s top heavy vehicle operators do what they do best. It’s been more than four long years since the last national truck driving competition, and now is the time to revive this important event.
Thanks to TR Group, EROAD, Spartan Finance and Hydraulink, the TR Group New Zealand Truck Driving Championships is back. This is a modern, all-inclusive competition, designed to test and reward the nation’s best drivers, so come along and support your friends or colleagues, and good luck if you have entered yourself!
The Auckland heats took place on Saturday 15 October and we look forward to welcoming the finalists who made it through to the heats. The Christchurch heats will be alongside the TMC Trucking Industry Show, on Friday 25 November. The finals will be the following day, on 26 Saturday November at the show. The competition is not designed to trick competitors and will simply showcase the knowledge, skill and talent that most drivers already have.
FINALS
the
So, how will the championships work? There will be three competitions running simultaneously and competitors must select one to compete in: The EROAD Class 2, Spartan Finance Tractor-Semi or Hydraulink Truck and Trailer Competition. The heats are broken up into three components:
• Theory Test
Around 30 questions, mostly multiple choice answers and all based on the New Zealand Heavy Vehicle Road Code. So, nothing thrown in to try and trip you up.
• Pre-trip Inspection Test
Assessed by a TR Group judge, who will ensure nothing has been overlooked and will deduct points for errors.
• Driving Course Manoeuvring Test
Based on time, skill and accuracy. This take a maximum of 15 minutes, with points awarded for quick time and points deducted for errors.
Following the heats, finalists will be announced and will compete on Saturday 26 November. The finals will be an amazing atmosphere, so come along and show your support. The finals have two components: another Driving Course Manoeuvring Test, plus the On-Road Driving Test – this will take place with a TR Group assessor around the streets of Christchurch.
Thanks to Z, the Z Business Driver’s Hub will be set up as a dedicated space for competitors, sponsors and TR Group judges to relax, with complimentary refreshments. All competitors will be given free entry to the Teletrac Navman Industry Awards Function, following the finals. This will be a social, laid-back atmosphere with an awards ceremony taking place from 6pm. The prizes are well worth the effort; each finalist will be rewarded with a finalist medal, and winners of each competition category will receive a winner’s trophy, a prize pack including $2500 cash and a trip for two to the 2023 Brisbane Truck Show. Runner ups will take home a prize pack including $1000 cash.
