Work out to motivational music with qualified and enthusiastic instructors. Classes include warm-up, cardiovascular and strength components, and cool down. SIT & FIT 50 YRS+

Join in a safe and invigorating workout from standing or sitting in a chair. After a sitting or standing warm-up, you will work on strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility. Light hand weights will be provided; however, please bring your own resistance band. Monday 11:00–11:45am Wednesday 11:00–11:45am Friday 12:00–12:45am For the above programs, classes will resume to drop-in format. Maximum room limits may vary by program. No classes on statutory holidays. Cost is $5.25 per session. Punch cards can be prepurchased: 10 for $39.50 or 25 for $98.50.

Strength & Condition 50+

OSTEOFIT 50 YRS+

Osteofit is a specially designed exercise and education program for those with osteoporosis and low bone mass and for those at risk of falling. The course includes strength, balance, posture, and stretching exercises that are essential for creating an effective Fall Prevention strategy. Bands and light weights are examples of some of the equipment used to improve strength. Classes have an educational component and are designed for adults who can participate without the use of an aid or walker. Please bring your own resistance band.

Let’s build some muscle! Time to flex your fitness routine? Strength training in a group environment is an encouraging and fun way to add a strength component to your exercise routine. Hatha Stretch is an opportunity to stretch, unwind, and release tension. This therapeutic class provides a good counterpoint to busy lives and cardio workouts. Participants will learn the science of alignment throughout this thoughtful practice. In this series, you will experience the joy of stretching, the peace of balance, and the stillness of mind. This is an ongoing class suitable for beginner and continuing students. The postures we practise have easy to learn choreography for moving Qi through the body and curing physical ailments. The depth of the art comes from how we do them. Qi Gong is supported by Eastern and Western medicine as an excellent way of raising our immunity and general health.

Considered a panacea by Eastern and Western medical doctors, this form is easy to learn but contains enough depth to keep students’ interest for many years. Gordon Muir was a student of the famous T. T. Liang who was a disciple of Cheng Man Ching.

Feldenkrais® group classes use slow, mindful movements to achieve powerful effects in terms of strength, flexibility, and holistic integration of body and mind. Unique to Feldenkrais is the focus on daily functional movement such as sitting, walking, standing and lifting. Improving the quality of movement, unnecessary muscular tensions throughout the body can reorganize and release. Changes occur through neuromuscular repatterning that happens in these lessons.

Through primarily landscape reference material, students will gain an understanding of colour mixing and explore topics like composition, how to crop for maximum effect, blockingin, values, colour notes, negative shape painting, edges, and brushwork. Shelly will begin each session with a demo and then proceed to guide and give personal attention to each painting. This class is for beginner and intermediate painters. Learn how to make your lettering expressive and lively using the Pentel Brush Pen. Kathy will demonstrate a basic pointed brush alphabet and techniques to tailor your words to your projects. This unique pen has a nylon brush tip that holds its point and has a water-based dye ink replaceable cartridge. This is her favourite lettering style so she will have lots of examples of her personal work as well as commissioned work. This is a beginner’s course in the elements of drawing with pencil and graphite sticks. Each class will introduce a new way of expressing yourself through line, gesture, form, and shading. Along with learning basic techniques, you will be assisted in finding your own unique style within a supportive and fun environment. Please bring $5 to cover the cost of the handouts.
