Dr. Martin With a new hospital comes new and expanded services that are transforming the way patients are diagnosed and cared for in Oakville. Since joining OTMH in 1983, Dr. Lorne Martin, Chief of Staff for Halton Healthcare, has seen the Hospital evolve into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that is attracting new and talented physicians with diverse specialties.
“We have recruited a number of talented physicians and that creates new clinical equipment requirements. Looking ahead, ongoing support is crucial in keeping up with the growing and changing needs of our Hospital.
Dr. Andrighetti At OTMH, our Maternal Child Unit goes above and beyond in delivering compassionate, personalized care for mothers and newborns. This culture has always been nurtured by a strong, dynamic team, unified in putting patients and families first. Dr. Santina Andrighetti, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, can attest to the wonderful care patients are receiving in the new Maternal Child Unit. As a physician who cares for moms and babies every day, Dr. Andrighetti relies on donor funded equipment in giving young families the best, healthiest start possible.
“We’ve made the leap to a larger, more modern space but this has not changed the foundations of our practices and quality of care.
Dr. Heffernan Dr. Michael Heffernan, one of eight dedicated Cardiologists at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, specializes in matters of the heart, using innovative treatments and equipment to care for people with a wide spectrum of cardiovascular conditions. From patients needing specialized cardiac testing to those followed in the Heart Function Clinic, Dr. Heffernan sees personal victories happen every day at OTMH, made possible through the equipment and technology that generous donors help fund.
“Cardiac monitors, defibrillators, vascular ultrasound machines - each piece of equipment makes a vital difference to every family that has a loved one needing special care.
Dr. Lo & dr. wong As specialists in our rapidly expanding vascular program, Dr. Aaron Lo and Dr. Sydney Wong see patients with a broad range of vascular conditions, and in some cases, even life-threatening emergencies. The two physicians recently worked together to perform a high-risk emergency surgery on a patient diagnosed with a large aneurysm in his aorta. After a five-hour surgery, Dr. Lo and Dr. Wong successfully repaired the patient’s aorta. They were able to operate thanks to the new vascular surgical instruments that were funded through our generous community of donors.
“If we did not have vascular surgery available here at OTMH, this patient would not have made it to another hospital. Expanding our vascular equipment list broadens the range of procedures and medical solutions possible here at OTMH. It means having the right tools available to save someone’s life.”
Dr. Best With only a handful of Urogynecologists in the province, Dr. Carolyn Best’s services are in high demand. At OTMH, she offers specialized care to women with urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Using the latest technology, Dr. Best assesses and treats these conditions through minimally-invasive procedures that allow for faster recovery time and less pain for her patients. Since joining OTMH in January, Dr. Best is committed to helping women in need of treatment and improving their quality of life.
“The conditions I treat are extremely common and there is an increasing demand for specialized care. With the right equipment, we can treat a higher volume of patients and faster, allowing even more women to live healthier, more comfortable lives.
Dr. JAMAL Dr. Hanif Jamal, one of 25 practicing Hospitalists at OTMH, is a dedicated in-patient physician who diagnoses and treats patients in many areas of the hospital. Whether it’s an elderly man being treated for an acute stroke or a young woman recently diagnosed with cancer, he plays a crucial role in a patient’s road to recovery. Every day, Dr. Jamal collaborates with other physicians and healthcare staff in order to provide the best care possible for his patients.
“At OTMH, we are a team united under one common goal: putting patients first. When we come together, we achieve incredible things.”
Dr. Yu As an interventional radiologist and Chief of Halton Healthcare’s Diagnostic Imaging Department, Dr. Robert Yu has witnessed first-hand the dramatic and revolutionary changes in medical technology over the past few years. These advances have changed the way medicine is practiced for the better. Equipment is more sophisticated and provides our OTMH caregivers with incredible, new capabilities. With interventional radiology, many conditions that once required open surgery can now be treated non-invasively. These procedures are safer and less painful while delivering better results and shorter hospital stays.
“The right equipment is essential to delivering this kind of care. And now with the expanded programs and services our new hospital offers, our equipment needs are even greater.”
Back them up Every day, OTMH doctors and their healthcare teams help patients in need of life-changing health care. This is only possible with your donations. When our team of dedicated medical professionals have access to the most advanced equipment and technology, they can provide patients with faster and more accurate diagnoses followed by more effective treatment options. Hospital equipment is advancing at a rapid pace. New technologies make it easier to diagnose and treat diseases or disorders. At the same time, surgeries are becoming less invasive resulting in faster recovery times.
While the government funds operational costs, it is the community that funds the purchase of essential equipment for our caregivers.
