SKIPS
Letter From the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
To all Participants, Sponsors, Volunteers, and Fans, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you to the 32nd Annual Kurl for Kids Pro-Am Charityspiel. If you are new to the event, I’d like to welcome you to the Kurl for Kids Family.
The 32nd Kurl for Kids proved to be another huge success as for the second year in a row we raised in excess of $130,300! From that total roughly $107,020 went to the Oakville Hospital Foundation while The Sandra Schmirler Foundation received over $23,300. Thank you to all who participated and donated. We’re stronger than ever as we make our way through our thirties.
For the past 34 years a group of dedicated committee members, celebrity skips, volunteers and curlers have gathered together each Easter weekend in support of children with special needs in our community. Over the years, the event has changed charities, curling clubs and even cities, however what has not changed is that special connection that we all share through the Kurl for Kids Family.
Our family includes former Olympic Champions, National Champions and Provincial Champions, parents of children that have survived difficult births and parents of children that tragically did not survive.
Our family includes charities and foundations that dedicate their efforts to raising money for special care nurseries, paediatric centres, specialized equipment and facilities that are designed with patients’ care in mind and providing the highest quality patient-centered care. Our family also includes a specialized group of curlers who choose to spend their time fundraising for and then curling in one of the best and longest running charity-spiels around. Our family includes a list of people connected to our skips and curlers who support the event through donations, sponsorship and financial contributions.
Over the past 34 years, the Kurl for Kids Family has now raised just over $3 million for children with special needs. We have and will continue to make a difference in the lives of neonatal infants just minutes old, infants in need of specialized equipment and children who need extra care and attention. Our family includes you, and we are grateful to be able to include you.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
Regards,
Bill Garner Executive DirectorEVENT SCHEDULE

Who We Are… Why We Do it… What We’ve Done…
We’re a Pro-Am Charity Bonspiel for adults, where celebrity skips – including Provincial, Canadian, World and Olympic Champions – curl with a team of amateur curlers.
It’s for the kids! 100% of the funds raised support kids in crisis through our two preferred charities –locally, the Oakville Hospital Foundation and nationally, the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.
About the NICU/SCN
The Special Care Nursery (SCN) at OTMH provides family-centered and developmentally supportive care to newborns requiring increased observation and care. The SCN provides space to care for our tiniest and youngest patients who are born prematurely or need special care.
The Special Care Nursery features 10 bassinets in a family-friendly environment that offers more space and privacy. The department also includes a ‘care by parent’ room where parents of infants in the SPN can stay overnight with their baby until they are ready to go home.
Over the past 31 years, more than $3 million has been raised for four different Charities and since 2011, Kurl for Kids has raised over $750,000 for the Oakville Hospital Foundation.

How We Play…
Draw Format .
Games are 6 or 4 ends – Refer to Schedules
Points Spiel:
10 Points for a win
1 Point for each end won
½ Point for a blank end
¼ Point for each point scored to a max of 3
The Coin Toss
Winning the coin toss grants you an increased advantage and impacts the game. If you win the flip you will have the choice of either:
Hammer & Rocks (yes both!) OR
½ a Point to Start the Game
So win the toss and you can choose to be winning by half a point before the game even starts. This eliminates the possibility of ties and makes the coin toss decision that much more interesting.
...How We Roll
. Transportation requirements outside of this schedules is the responsibility of the individual curlers. Guests are permitted in the vans but not at the exclusion of curlers. The drivers are volunteering their time. Do not impose on their generosity and please remember to thank them for their efforts and time.
