Select Marina Hostel Refurbishment Hotel Select in Mamaia ( Conversion of a communist type hotel into a luxurious hostel ) Hotel Select is located in Mamaia, on the Black Sea coast; This resort has the highest degree of popularity in the summer season. Hotel Select is part of the communist building arrangements; after the Revolution, it went through various stages of defacement, as it was passed to several successive private owners. This proposal is based on the transformation of the 2-star Hotel Select into a 4-star hostel-type unit, in compliance with the legal norms in force and with the limited possibilities offered by the structure. The architectural concept starts from the stylization of a cruise ship. The idea is not original as it was previously used by famous Romanian architects; the first person to raise this idea was G.M. Cantacuzino, the architect that designed the famous Hotel Belona in Eforie resort. Hotel Select went through different stages until 2012, when it was last renovated. Two extensions were added, a new floor for more accommodation units and also a separate building. The mini apartment is the accommodation unit that is specific for this hotel. Following the structural extension, the desired accommodation spaces (accommodation unit of 8 persons) were obtained. For furniture, we used systems of overlapping boxes made of white polycarbonate. The flooring is made with epoxy, needed to obtain a unitary surface, including the bath area. Storage spaces are mostly hidden, in order to maximize space and to make the apartment as welcoming as possible, although its dimensions are relatively small. The office table descends electrically from the ceiling; for the dressing, we used the Italian Rasopareti systems. The furniture elements designed by Cubits are the key to this arrangement; they are used in all floors.

The idea is closely linked to the human condition, so that the whole atmosphere is based on the human-nature connection, which is the essence of life. The building is as a monolithic block; it is nature-friendly, as all the vegetation being on the roof.

The fluid form of the building is harmonious: simple lines, emphasizing the routes leading to various destinations. Light was considered as a very important factor; it enters through the zenith window and illuminates the entire inner courtyard,

The color palette is also pastel: white, green, beige, orange, combined with natural elements.

I worked on visualising two plays. The first one “Alice in Wonderland” was a colorful play which required the creation of fairy-like set props, such as large mushrooms, plantlife and projections. The second one, “Iona”, which is a traditional dramatic Romanian play, required the use of darker tones and also the creation of a skeleton for the stage.

As an architectural assistant, a position I have had for altmost two years and still hold, I have contributed to the realisation of a series of urban solutions for the Bucharest City Hall, District 5. This suspended park is a solution to streamline traffic by providing a pedestrian alternative, increasing the green spaces, including the creation of new lanes (which is a hot topic for the Bucharest administration). The project also includes leisure and commerce areas ,and gives the pedestrians a perspective of the city while surounded by nature.

Pizzeria Martino Milan, Italy This location is an ultimate classic Milanese pizzeria&restaurant, with interiors referring to the late Italian architecture and design. I tried to preserve the old style of the pizzeria by keeping some architectural and decorative details from the original structure such as the arch, the bricks and the wooden beams. bringing it some fresh The color palette opted for the design of the place (the seats, the formica furniture, wooden panels and the floor) are reminiscent of the Italian culture and aesthetics from the 1950’s and 1960’s. White tiles prevail the wall on which the chalkboard is installed (where the menu can be written), creating a good contrast. The restaurant’s kitchen is visible through the arch window. The initial floor was damaged, so I opted for a new terrazzo floor. Terrazzo flooring is a typical Italian one made by marble fragments next to each other in a mortar base. For the pizza oven design was used the same stones and aggregates technique. The room is meant to express the atmosphere of the early 20th century Milanese pizzeria with a modern twist. The result is a modern atmosphere that surprises the visitor.

Apartment Via Ragazzi del ‘99 Milan, Italy Buying a new house is an expensive matter. However, it is a good idea to buy an old house that will come cheaper and then renovate it for the new beginning. This apartment had an ‘old-school’ partition before. The long hallway seemed to dwindle the space. My proposal tried to achieve the effect of combining two areas in a youthful style . Since the apartment was designed for a newly married couple,I created different openings, while still maintaining more of a distinction between the rooms. So I separated the apartment in 2 spaces. One for day activities and the night area. The first is comprised by a lobby, an entertainment room and an open living area connected to the kitchen through tall sliding doors. The night area includes 2 bedrooms. One is the children bedroom with a bathroom and a laundry room accessible through the hallway. The other is a double bedroom with it’s own private dressing room and bathroom. The functional interior design is combined with monochromatic color schemes and golden accessories.Purple, green and sunny yellow pastel colors looking harmonious with light gray fabric and wooden color tones. The interesting colorful tones of the geometric tv stand gives the idea of freshness of a young couple’s sitting room. I chose unique pieces of furniture and decorations to emphasize a stylish atmosphere and give an artistic touch to the beautiful home to make two young people feel comfortable and happy. Also the ceiling height doors are something a bit different from the norm. They will open up the home’s interior and give the perception of a taller, more expansive space. The overall look is flawless and free-flowing.This sliding full-height doors make a clever, space-saving room divider between the living room and the kitchen. Freshness, and optimism blend into this modern home interior. The fresh and artistic design of this apartment guarantees a comfortable living space for the newly married couple.

INSPIRATION

LAGO

Riad House Lake Snagov, near Bucharest This one-storey family house with garden and pools was commissioned by an Arab family that comes and goes regularly from Syria to Romania. Since the owner intended to share the house with his parents, parents-in-law, children and nephews he requested five bedrooms and many other common spaces. The contemporary Arab household has the whole ground floor dedicated to day activities and it is comprised by : the open space kitchen, office, the living area for guests and the sitting and dining family area. In the living area there is a room called majlis. This is the traditional place used for receiving guests, sitting, smoking shisha and having conversations. In the family living area, and in the guests room, the television set has a very distinct importance, this is why the ground floor has several Tv areas. Sometimes the TV set can seem to dominate life in the home as it is often the main feature of the family’s own area and the majlis. Selective materials such as marble, chrome and golden pieces were used in the design of the ground floor and both sitting areas. The somber of black leather and the shimmer of gold dominates the living room for that ultimate luxurious atmosphere. Decorating the ceiling with the precious lights complements the stylized interior dÊcor. Open glass walls upsize everything and instantly translates the living room into an expansive and elegant space. Since each room was going to be used by a different member of the numerous family, it was a challenge for me to decorate the different master bedrooms adopting distinct styles. Some rooms had masculine thematic designs and other more feminine. Deep blues, concrete grays, jewel-tone elements and greens liven up the stark white rooms for the masculine side of the family. While the feminine side of the family opted for a bohemian mid-century design, white or light colored bedrooms featured by several softening details, such as a cozy cow skin carpet and natural fiber accents. All of these come together to create a serene space. The house is a fascinating mix of styles reflecting the taste of each family member. Mixing and matching aspects of the clients lifestyle, I customized the design of the house according to their preferences.

Roxanne`s House Bucharest, Romania This modern house incorporates a contemporary design with a touch of elegance. It was a matter of merging my client’s style , with my own. She was more of a neutral person herself when it came to walls or big pieces but we managed to reach a common ground, bringing my elements that make the rooms come to life and inject so much fun and color. In the living room i have created separate areas by positioning the furniture and by installing the illumination design. The false ceiling and the wood cladding defines the tv lounge space, and the hanging ceiling light defines the dinning area. In each space there is a focal point, like in the lobby where i suggested a colorful painting. This creates a bold functional atmosphere that makes the area stands out on it’s own. We added to the house some ivory wall painting to express softness and elegance which is the recurring color in any room. Curtains are one more opportunity to add color, pattern and interest to a room. I could have jazzed this place up with contrasting curtains but for an elegant look I considered curtains in the same color (or one shade lighter or darker) as the surrounding walls. The kitchen has been designed with lighter and brighter colors interrupted by the salvaged wood , custom built table by the owners that adds warmth to the mostly white kitchen. The baby blue wall color of the kitchen not only changes the look of the room, but even more importantly, it changes the feel of the space. For the son’s room I opted for a deep midnight blue in order to create a darker atmosphere according to his specific taste. The master bedroom has tones of beige, color that according to the trends had a reputation for being boring, but it is now the king of neutrals. The beige finishings fits perfectly with the hazy, earthy decorative paint which makes it suitable to create golden metallic effect for the room’s backdrop. The planning of this precious master bedroom did not stop at the wall design, flooring or furnishing. The role of main actor is played by the hanging crystal ceiling light which speaks volumes of style and glamour continued by the delicate craftsmanship of crystal cutting, crystal bulbs by Lee Broom. Simplicity and elegance is the essential key in this project. Its elegant and modern lines are complemented by textures and shapes that integrate the project. The chromatic range oscillates between the calm tone of pastels and the bold colors of the walls, paintings and decorative textured backdrops . All finishings maximize and accentuate the space in a graceful way.

Crisana House Constanta, Romania An influencing style that took hold in Europe - Romania - was Art Deco, known for its geometrical and functional design. This new movement of architecture was extremely popular in Bucharest and Constanta between the two World Wars. The evolution of an art deco home from an untouched 1930s house to an innovative space is a story of how considered design can improve all aspects of life. Bringing this old building to life, the house needed to reflect the way the clients live today, not how they lived before. With parents of two kids coming and going regularly, the space had to reflect this transition and need for spaces of a family. The initial architecture of the house was a representative art deco architecture with a flat roof and terraces that became more of an issue to the new owners. This way they have decided to add another floor to the house with the approval of the structural engineers .The ground floor space starts with the entrance hall followed by the rounded wall where the curved stairway was installed to connect the old building with the new second floor. I focused on designing the space internally, adding some steel finishing to fence and to the new door structure, creating a strong connection between indoor and out. Some of the first features that made me work with enthusiasm on the older home were the beautiful molding, trim and door details built during that era. They were preserved by a simple coat of paint, which was the first step to highlight these details. Vastly eclectic in style, the house design is characterized by craft motifs combined with geometric shaped and materials. Black lacquer, polished wood, semiprecious stones tiling were some of the hallmarks of the concept design. This is why I opted for a precious polished parquet. A dark ebony wood line placed on the floor 20 cm from the walls follows the house layout except for the dining and kitchen area. Here instead I chose a white onix tile flooring , for an elegant and delicate atmosphere. The white onix has a pelicular chromatism, in which very fine lines are punctuated by amber and golden notes that remind us about the beauty of the art deco era. For the living room decorations and furniture I used expensive materials .The customized furniture was made of precious makassar wood with generous use of gold steel and metal handles and glass. The spotlight of the living room is the marble custom-made Art Deco style fireplace with gilded bronze ornaments. Its clean and minimalist lines were designed in the Art Deco spirit of the 1920s. Since the owner was a ship captain , the design included a large map of the world in the center of the living room customized in copper with a styled deco geometric designed frame. Bold geometric patterns with hard angles for symmetry were also used in designing the children bedroom, specially for the bunk beds and the desk bellow it. The house’s style was all about making a big statement, such as in the deco era. By incorporating these and other Art Deco elements into the design of the house, I tried to achieve the streamlined and modernist look of the Art Deco period according to the clients budget.

Ms Lidia’s cosy apartment Milan, Italy Interior design isn’t just about creating a home that looks new and current. It can also be about preserving the past and respecting the character of an older home. Ms Lidia decided to move back to Milan from province because her son was having a newly born baby. So the apartment designed for ms Lidia was her son’s former apartment. In this way she could live closer to them. The design of this milanese one bedroom apartment hides multiple materials, colors, time-earned characters with a certain quirky charm combinations. The new design turned this piece-apartment into an open living space. The owner wanted to furbish the apartment with some of her unique old furniture pieces. The new designing elements were inspired by the clear presence of the dark wood based on the style of the owners restored pieces. The kitchen area that hosts also a bookshelf not only gives a classic design expression but also offers clever and functional solutions to the space issue. The area is partially divided by the ‘L’ shaped kitchen and opens up into the living room space. Open and airy shelving units are a stylish way to add additional storage. These can be also used as a display space for collectibles, books ,porcelain sculpures and other valuable ornaments without altering the original architecture. Plus, they also have a certain gallery-like charm that fits both into older and newer styles. home despite feeling like a modern touch. In general, I looked for clean and simple contemporary furnishings combined with the vintage furniture pieces and the molding details of doors & windows. The finishings and overall design bring the sense of modern life to a traditional home without the two styles feeling like they’re fighting each other.
