Crafted for people. Lush greens and sparkling blues. The enticing sounds of trickling water and of leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. For centuries weary travellers, adventurers and other visitors have appreciated the wonders of the oasis. A safe haven on the long sandy trek through a desert. A place for rest and recreation before the journey is continued. Imagine green rooftop gardens in hectic cities. Spacious terraces looking on to wide-open countryside. Swimming pools shimmering in the moonlight. A ski resort banked by spectacular mountain scenery. OASIQ aspires to create an oasis of calm where it is desired. To reflect beautiful natural surroundings where they are present. Our passion is to design outdoor furniture for people who share our dream. Our style is distinctive yet versatile. Timeless with a modern touch. OASIQ outdoor furniture bridges the divide between indoors and
outdoors effortlessly. Dining, playing, relaxing, resting, entertaining guests – every activity is catered for. Ultimately however, our collections serve a purpose beyond functionality. We endeavour to enrich people’s experience of outdoor living. To connect them with the beauty found in nature’s elegant creations. For we believe that an appealing outdoor setting, crafted with attention to detail, contributes to people’s feeling of well-being. Our source of inspiration Connecting people to the beauty of their surroundings is a process that begins with a keen eye for organic patterns. For shapes that are pleasant to behold. The simple elegance of nature’s own creations is always the source of our inspiration. Luckily for us, nature’s secret was unlocked centuries ago. The beauty of the patterns found in a pine cone and in the perfection of an uncurling fern is expressed by the golden ratio. This is always the bedrock of our approach.
The beauty of the spiral pattern created by a sunflower’s central cluster of florets is expressed by the golden ratio. This is the bedrock of our approach.

Blast from the past The new OASIQ collections are a contemporary take on some of the trends of the fabulous fifties that have stood the test of time. The 1950s were a time of innovation in design. The use of new materials inspired clean lines and comfortable curves with an emphasis on leisure from the USA, and graceful soft-edged teak designs from Scandinavia. Lively pastel colour schemes in pink, turquoise, mint green, pale yellow and blue were the rage. In fashion it was the heyday of Dior’s ‘New Look’ and, thanks to television, exuberant music and dance styles, such as Rock and Roll, the Bunny Hop and the Hand Jive, exploded onto the scene. Creating originals Creativity thrives on linking up ideas, combining them into something new, making connections that express originality. Our creations are inspired by links to vintage designs that have endured for decades by winning people’s hearts. They are crafted by skilled people who feel passionately about what they create,
and whose craft-culture handiwork provides a unique touch. The outstanding quality of each piece is ensured by modern design insights and the use of high-tech materials. And when it comes to originality, we love to work with designers who share our ambition to exceed people’s expectations and open the door to imagination. Q for quality Quality is in our DNA. Our company’s roots can be traced back to a long tradition of craftsmanship in fine leather, sturdy metal parts and weatherproof textiles for equestrian sports. This makes us especially qualified to meet the high demands made on outdoor furniture. The materials we use are guaranteed to endure the elements, as well as to meet the high standards of comfort and flexibility modern life sets.

interview
“ Finding the right balance of design features, colour, and texture is a process that involves knowing when to stop.”
“Stripping an idea down to its essential parts, without sacrificing the richness of the experience is the most demanding part of my work. You can compare it to serving an excellent steak. In a good restaurant a choice piece, cooked to perfection, is served without a sauce. In the same way, a good design does not require elaboration. Together with my colleagues I pare an idea down until its core is revealed. It is finished when we can’t help but feel it’s right. That we’d put this new chair or table in our own home or garden.”
“The team at OASIQ share my ideas and commitment when it comes to delivering quality in design and use of materials. The aluminium CORAIL collection expresses a colourful sense of fun as well as a robust practicality. While the DIUNA sets a new standard for elegant outdoor teak furniture in a quiet, understated way.”

inspiration
“ Vintage influences are a sign of the times. They reflect people’s search for enduring excellence in uncertain times.”
Crafts revival “In Europe there really is a great crafts revival at the moment. Especially locally produced, interesting products are finding new markets. More and more, we are seeing people choose what they buy with care. They want to know about the stories behind the products, about their origins: who made them, where, why? On the one hand, this is because people are looking for a meaningful experience, a personal connection to the products they buy. On the other hand, it’s because in times of uncertainty people lean towards genuine relationships that will stand the test of time. And, thanks to the internet, access to information about products has become easy.”
Sign of the times “People connect to the story behind a product, and stories abound in the world of global crafts. This may be a story about the development of a craft, its relation to a specific culture and its place within a tradition of working with certain materials. Or there may be an interesting story waiting to be told about the people who create the products and their inspiration. The current interest in vintage is a sign of the times in this respect. People focus on vintage fashion and design because this connects them to a rich history of ideas and influences that have proved their worth. It represents an attitude that values originality and lasting quality, and looks for new products that incorporate these standards in
state-of-the-art designs. And in spite of the economic crisis, people are willing to invest in an exceptional, high-quality product that has a special meaning for them.” Outdoor trends to look out for “It’s an exciting and innovative time in outdoor trends. You can expect to encounter more elegant, fragile forms and less bulky shapes. Mixing different styles and materials will enable you to create a unique personal space. There is an orientation towards pure shapes and an uncovering of layers that will reveal the materials and techniques used in construction. Basically, a focus on materials that speak for themselves, and a combination of styles that expresses your own taste.”

58
interview
“ Our objective is to create designs that have character through their simplicity.”
“As a studio we find ourselves being drawn repeatedly to designs that fulfil the rigorous demands made of furniture for outdoor use, while managing to retain a lightness of touch that makes them suitable for interior use too. I suspect we enjoy the challenge.” “When I was young, I would play a game called cat’s cradle whereby two people would make patterns with a single loop of string and pass them to each other. What proved interesting during the development of SANDUR was the ability of the weave to follow a different profile than might be expected from the frame itself and to create an independent 3-dimensional shape within the skeletal steel structure.
This gave us more freedom to allow the frame to express itself and take on a character of its own, while at the same time providing the support in key areas for the weave to perform the essential ergonomic functions. It is the nature and degree of the interdependence between frame and weave that fascinated and inspired us in this project.”

Spanning from interior architecture and styling to consultancy and marketing, Marc Heldens is an all-round design hound. His forte is interior reportage. He scouts people with unique interiors and tells their story. This search for the stuff that life is made of, takes him across the globe on many inspiring design expeditions. Beyond lifestyle “I have evolved into an interior storyteller. My search has led me to New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, and most of Europe, to photograph and write about people’s living spaces. Covering interiors helps me to uncover very personal and touching stories. It is a tool I use to reconstruct the life story of the

people I visit. I like to think this goes beyond lifestyle. Ultimately, it’s a way to dig deeper into life’s meaning.” Characteristic interiors “The search for unique interiors is a journey that never ceases to fascinate me. in the foreground. It highlights the personal meaning attached to the fact that you have a particular object in your house. The stories I tell are distinctive because they express this personal attachment.” Something old, something new, something… “Collecting objects I am personally attached to has become a way for me to express my own life story. Certain objects, like this huge magazine cabinet, for example, are part of my life’s baggage. They are records of my personal and
the people who have collected, cherished, and really spent time in them. Chronicling these interiors the past twenty years has been a personal development as well as a professional one. What does it really mean when you describe an interior as ‘characteristic’, ‘authentic’ or ‘personal’? It boils down to focusing on the individual instead of the icons. A person’s inspiration used to be expressed by the design icons they collected. If you had an Alessi kettle and a Le Corbusier, you were telling the world that you knew how to recognise originality. These icons represented your personality. In contrast, a story about a characteristic or authentic interior places an individual’s life
professional development. So when we built this studio, I definitely wanted a ‘magazine room’. Or take my collection of natural objects and porcelain. Or this Emmy award, which belonged to my father. These pieces always give visitors a topic of conversation, and a way to get to know me. Personal interiors help people to connect, to get to know each other.” Letting yourself be inspired “When it comes to styling, my interest lies in the area beyond trends where a great deal of experimentation is going on. So I would advise you to choose a particular object because you find it personally appealing. Because it fits in your personal story, your evolution. Authenticity is a matter of staying true to yourself and letting yourself be inspired by something you encounter, even if it is just by that one piece that appeals to you at this moment.”

“ Nothing lasts forever, but my designs do attempt to be your friends for life.”
“Outdoor furniture should be just as comfortable and sophisticated as indoor furniture, even though it is only used for a part of the year in most parts of Europe. We always start with a silhouette and refine the design. We keep the lines clear and add subtle details. This avoids clutter while creating a distinctive look.”
“At first glance the slender REEF table looks simply inviting. Up to a point it is a timeless design with a no-nonsense ‘what you see is what you get’ attitude. But there is an element of surprise, because a section of the frame echoes the top, and unites the whole. The result is striking.”

Craftsmanship
OASIQ finds inspiration in nature to craft outdoor furniture for people. Behind the scenes are the people whose skills and dedication help to achieve our vision at factory level. They form the backbone of our company. 82
Behind the scenes
OASIQ relies on the skills of people who pay meticulous attention to detail to create the top-quality furniture discerning customers expect. Our outdoor furniture is manufactured at a factory where every aspect of production is handled by specialists in their field of expertise. The cutting of the steel and aluminium parts, the moulding and joining of the teak components, the hand polishing and powder coating - every step is carried out in-house. Quality control requires people with a thorough knowledge of every aspect of the production process. Inspecting the raw metals and teak to ensure they fulfil specifications. Checking the sanding, welding, painting and assembly. Personal attention is given to every piece of furniture before final approval.
Our factory is located in Thailand and has been specialised in the manufacturing of products for outdoor use since 2001. Traditional working methods that rely on craftsmanship, such as hand weaving, are used side by side with state-of-the-art modern technology to produce outdoor furniture that is both sturdy and perfectly finished. As every true craftsman knows, there is more to achieving excellence than expertise and quality control alone. All depends on
people who love their work and give their best to the job in hand. Every one of our employees, no matter how small their role, is valued and rewarded for his or her dedication to performing an excellent job, day in day out.

owen raggett Photographer at owenraggett.com
Owen Raggett uses his expertise as a photographer to create a visual narrative that tells a brand’s story. His photos capture space and light to express the unique character of a brand, and to connect it with the mindset of its customers.
Bringing a brand to life “My background is branding and marketing within the design industry. About four years ago I decided I was going to focus on one specialist field, and that field is design photography. This involves creating images for product design, interior design and architecture that represent a brand’s story. As a photographer, I help create a visual
84
narrative that expresses a brand’s personality and brings it to life.” Less plastic, more honest “The development in design photography the last five years in Europe has been towards working more with natural conditions, instead of staging everything as if it’s the next Star Wars film. People want the romance of a good story, but they are increasingly looking for the down-to-earth approach in the way a brand is represented. Images have become less plastic and more honest, especially those catering to the mindset of discerning, repeat customers. Truthfulness and taste are the key values. Which means that overly photoshopped images

minimal touches; to avoid overpropping or over-stylizing, and lots of supplemental lighting. It’s a very different aesthetic. My favourite analogy is blues music: with blues you strip everything away until there’s nothing else that you could remove without it being detrimental. So you have the absolute bare bones. Once you’ve done that, you can then think about adding a few things in very selectively. But you don’t want to mess with your roots.”
that don’t give you an idea what a place, product or person really looks like are generally dismissed as spin.”
Leaving in the rough edges “Photographing furniture can be approached in various ways.
There’s the highly styled imagery, using a lot of glamorous models, fashionable props and heavily retouched ultra blue skies. Or there’s the more sophisticated approach that uses beautiful backdrops, a space and nature itself as a prop. For the OASIQ shoot we were at a beautiful natural location, and when it turned out that the weather was atrocious most days, we incorporated the conditions into the result. This makes the images feel authentic, believable. So we didn’t postpone the shoot, we just photographed between the showers and left in the rough edges. It’s not postcard perfect, but it is real outdoor life.”
Don’t mess with your roots “People don’t want to be sold a dream if you can’t deliver it. A design development I find interesting is the stripped back, deconstructed urban feel you see more and more in restaurants. People don’t want flamboyant or ostentatious statements anymore. They appreciate the concrete floors, exposed ceilings and interesting artwork, or well-designed chairs and tables. Images also have to be both believable and interesting. So it’s important to use a few
85
materials
86
Aluminium
teak
rope
Aluminium is a lightweight metal that is very strong and durable. The alloy we use guarantees excellent resistance to corrosion and has outstanding material properties. All aluminium products in the OASIQ collection are polished by hand, which produces a very beautiful finish when painted. After polishing, the furniture is cleaned, chemically treated, and painted using an electro-statically applied polyester powder coating. This gives the furniture a very strong finish, making it scratch resistant and weatherproof.
Teak is a beautiful dense hardwood with a uniquely high natural oil content. This means that it easily withstands all kinds of weather conditions. Even without any form of protection, sun, rain and snow do not diminish the quality of this natural material. Our teak furniture is delivered to the customer untreated. Under the influence of weather conditions, teak furniture will slowly change colour to a silvery grey that perfectly matches its natural surroundings. In order to prevent dirt and stains settling into the pores of the wood, we recommend regular cleaning. After a while, teak furniture might develop fine cracks in the end-grain parts, such as legs and arms. This is nothing to worry about. It is a natural process of the wood that will disappear with the natural changes in the weather and the consequent change in the moisture content of the wood.
All rope used in OASIQ woven furniture is manufactured from a combination of high performance TextileneŽ and solution-dyed Diversatex™ Olefin outdoor yarns. This rope is tough and durable, yet soft and supple. As the yarns are dyed all the way through and have excellent UV-resistant properties, these ropes will remain colourfast for many years and will withstand the rigours of outdoor use with style and elegance.
HPL
Stainless steel
HPL (high pressure laminate) is a flat panel, based on thermosetting resins and wood-based fibres. These panels are manufactured under high pressure and at high temperatures. This process ensures that the resins in the core layers of the panel and on the surface bind with each other. The result is a homogenous panel of high density, which is very strong, durable and weatherproof.
All stainless steel products in the OASIQ collection are made of Grade 304 stainless steel. This metal consists of various alloy elements such as iron, nickel and chromium. When exposed to air, a hard chromiumoxide layer is formed that protects the metal against corrosion. Our stainless steel products have been hand brushed to give their surface a satin-like shine that feels very smooth. The result is a corrosion resistant surface that is easy to clean and maintain.

rugs
Handwoven on handlooms by weavers with expertise handed down from generation to generation, the OASIQ outdoor rugs combine beauty with durability. High performance Textilene and solution-dyed Olefin outdoor yarns are first expertly plaited or braided together to create ropes with different textures. Artisan weaver’s deft fingers then transform these into beautifully woven pattern rugs. As the yarns are dyed all the way through and have excellent UV-resistant properties, these rugs will remain colourfast for many years and will withstand the rigours of outdoor use with style and elegance.

Cushions and Fabrics
OASIQ cushions are covered with Sunbrella fabrics. These fabrics have been especially developed for outdoor use and are made of solution-dyed yarns. This unique colouring process guarantees optimal UV-resistance and durability. Most of the covers can be removed for cleaning. The fabrics have also been treated with a water-repellent Teflon layer. The inner cushions are made of a special weatherproof foam called QuickDry Foam. This is a cutting-edge, high-performance foam designed specifically for outdoor cushions. Manufactured from carefully selected high-grade material, QuickDry has extreme durability and strength. Its unique porous open-cell structure allows water to drain very rapidly and fresh air to circulate freely and continuously.
