Stacey Abrams, a hard-working democrat woman was a guest speaker at the 2018 Essence Festival. There she shared her views and leadership strategies to make a difference. She has earned the honor and respect of the Georgia communities by proving to be a strong woman that will accomplish what she plans to accomplish. In 2010, Stacey became the first woman leader of either party in the Georgia General Assembly as well as the first African-American woman to lead in the House of Representatives. This House Minority Leader worked dilegently to recruit, train, elect, and defend Democrats. During her leadership, she stopped legislation from raising taxes on low income and middle class and rolled back reproductive healthcare. Stacy passed legislation that improved the welfare of grandparents and family members raising children securing funding that supported these families. .
