A fundraising event called to honor The Harlem Renaissance was sponsored by The Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in Decatur, Georgia. This event was to raise funds for the Stem program. Several sponsors along with Porter Sanford Jr. attending the event wearing their favorite mask with attire from of the roaring 20s. The fabulous cajun foods and sounds from the jazz band was topped off with slot machines and gambling crap tables. The Harlem Renaissance is a movement that started around 1920. It is the first African- American generation that was not

born into slavery. Due to the oppression of the south and it’s Jim Crow laws, many of the African-American community had to migrate to major cities in the northern United States. They did this to provide a better way of life for their families. The literary movement started with a dinner to honor a particular writer but ended in the acknowledgment of poets and writers of all ages and genres. The Harlem Renaissance fundraising event was an excellent way for African Americans to pay tribute to their African-American ancestors.
