["PANORAMA: THE VIEW OF A WIDE AREA"]
With two beautiful bell tents and an authentic shepherd’s hut, Bellorama is a beautiful off-grid ‘glampsite’, made for glorious nights around the camp-fire and dining al fresco, surrounded by stunning views of fields and farmland. Just outside the hamlet of Milton, the site is situated amid the stunning Wiltshire countryside, near the village of East Knoyle (birth place of Sir Christopher Wren).
THE SHEPHERDS HUT Authentically built by Jim Hyde, farmer of the land and co-founder of Bellorama, this shepherd’s hut is spacious, comfortable and heated by a woodburning stove. The kitchenette is well equipped with a farmhouse sink, cold running water, gas stove & kettle, utensils and crockery for 10 people. The hut also serves as an indoor living space during the daytime and can be set up with a sofa instead of a bed.
WOODLANDS BELL TENT Set in-front of the woodlands, this 4m diameter bell tent is well sheltered from the elements and sits upon a raised wooden platform at the top of the hill, making the most of the broad sweeping views. It is closest to the outdoor dining area, outdoor shower and composting loo.
DOG-ROSE BELL TENT High above the trees, nestled in it’s own leafy pocket of Woodland’s Field, sits the beautiful Dog-Rose bell tent. At 5m diameter it is a very spacious tent with large double doors on each side and a private viewing platform / balcony. It has outdoor seating, dining table and chaires, an indoor woodburner and small gas camping stove for making coffee and tea in the mornings.
OUTDOOR DINING This area, situated next to the shepherds hut at the top of the field, consists of a dining table under a canvas shelter / canopy, a gas stove, a large coolbox and an open fire pit with seating.

LOO & SHOWER
COOKING
The shower and loo huts are located half way down the hill (against the hedgerow).
Bellorama is self-catered with an equipped kitchen in the shepherd hut containing items needed to cook basic meals. On-site there is a fire-pit area set up with a griddle, to be lit using the provided fire-lighters and kindling. Cooking on the fire-pit takes longer than at home, the wood / coals take around 30-40mins to get up to cooking temperature. Move forward several pages to find recommended fire-pit recipes.
The loo is a composting loo with a separator to divert wet away from solids to eliminate smells and ensure effective composting. Simply add more sawdust after your loo visit, this is our way of ‘flushing’. We’ve provided a jug of water to swill around the plastic separator after a pee to keep things smelling lovely. The shower is hot (powered by gas).
WOOD & COAL Enough wood is supplied for what we feel is suffice for 2 nights. If you run out and need more we can deliver a top to your tent, only charging the cost of the wood. Charcoal for the firepit is not included, please bring your own.
If arriving late on your first night we advise bringing ready made food, booking a takeaway or heading to a local pub (the closest being The Fox & Hounds or The Grosvenor Arms - more info in the ‘pubs & restaurants’ section). We provide a small camping gas stove for each hut / tent for teas & coffees, basic pasta dishes, toast, hot water bottles, warming milk etc. Please note there is no hot water in the tap, only cold.
WELCOME HAMPER Upon request, we can put together a welcome hamper with local goodies including bread, butter, milk, coffee, biscuits, cake, juice, wine, etc at an extra charge. REFRIGERATION The fridge is a large cool box and keeps ice for a few days. We supply several ice packs so the cool box is cold when you arrive. You will need to bring your own bags of ice to keep everything chilled (two large bags should be suffice). Ice bags are often more effective than cool blocks.
DOGS We want all our guests to enjoy the stunning countryside with your dogs as we do, all we request that they sleep in your car and are strictly not permitted in the tents or hut.

We are off-grid with limited electricity. There’s a couple of flame storm lamps to use at night... be careful not to tip these over and to use the handle to carry them by as they get very hot. There are also some solar lights dotted around to mark the facilities.

COMPOSTING LOO Hand-crafted on the farm, our lovely loo is mostly constructed of reclaimed materials, the tin roof alone dates back to the 80’s. HOW IT WORKS: There is a white separator underneath the loo seat that diverts urine away from solids which keeps smells at bay and enables effective composting. FOR BOYS / MEN Feel free to pee in the hedgerows... preferably some distance away from any tent / hut. NO.1’S (mostly for women and children) Pee as you normally would... You are sitting above a white plastic separator that funnels liquids down a pipe into the chalk soil below. After you have been please use the watering can provided to swill water around the plastic separator which keeps things hygienic and smelling lovely for the next person. NO.2’S Please ensure you add more sawdust after your loo visit... this is our way of ‘flushing’ without using water. Remarkably sawdust removes all smell and sight of waste. Our loo roll is provided by thegoodroll.com - A great, plastic-free, loo paper that’s 100% tree-friendly and sustainable.
STORM LANTERN INSTRUCTIONS FUELLING: Unscrew the cap and fill with oil until just below the level of the cap opening. If the oil has run out or using a new wick, let the wick soak up the oil for 15 minutes or so. LIGHTING: Lift glass with the lever, adjust the wick so a short piece (1/2cm) is visible and light with a match or lighter. Lower the glass by releasing the lever and adjust the wick to a steady flame, if the flame is too high you’ll get black smoke from the chimney and the glass will soot up. EXTINGUISHING: Turn the wick down to a reduced flame until the flame dies out, or you can lift the glass and blow it out. WICK: Make sure the lantern is cool. Lift the chimney (there is a spring forcing it down onto the glass) and tilt the glass away. Remove the small dome by turning it a little. Remove the old wick and feed a new one in, turning the adjustment handle until the wick is visible above the small dome. To assemble, re-attach the small dome to the body, ensuring it is seated squarely. Return the glass to an upright position and make sure the chimney is sat snugly back on top.
