Vic Attfield FRPS. MPAGB. Vic Attfield’s interest in photography started in 1951 and he was on the UK lecturing and judging circuit for nearly 50 years. I has also lectured in New Zealand. Examples of his work are included in several UK permanent collections including the RPS Tyng Collection. He also has work in public collections in Russia and Europe. Over recent years he has confined his photography mainly to monochrome as the graphic quality of black and white suits his type of subject matter. Usually these days he concentrates on what can be loosely described as street photography .He feels that with the increasing pace of life and quickly changing environment and lifestyles, the recording of these moments in time is now becoming much more important than it was in the past. Very few of Vic’s images are planned. He rarely works on a project, preferring to wander around an area looking for interesting aspects of everyday life which can be interpreted in a sympathetic or humorous manner. Capturing that split second in time when the shutter is open can never be repeated - it is gone for ever. This is the type of photography he most enjoys, finding situations, reacting to them and recording his feelings in the finished print. Because of this his pictures are mainly standalone images. He has always had equipment that is simple to operate but very reliable. His last film cameras were Nikkormats with three lenses from 28 to 135mm which he used for over 30 years . Now fully digital he uses either a Cannon G10 or the so called entry level Nikon D3000 with 18-105mm lens.

Linda Bembridge Linda Bembridge has been taking photographs since 2005, prior to that a very demanding work and home life left her little time for anything else. Recently she has been lucky enough to balance a career allowing her creativity in words and figures, with photography providing creativity in the artistic and abstract. Linda is inspired by the landscape in all its forms. Linda says, “Wide vistas can be spectacular and I strive to capture the feelings inspired by nature at its best. I am equally fascinated by details in the landscape, both literal and abstract, and constantly look for ways to represent this inner world as both individual images or as small collections. Recently Linda has started to explore different styles of photography both in terms of subject matter and photographic process. Enjoying the challenges of wildlife photography, Linda also appreciates the contrasting techniques demanded of this photographic genre.

Roger Longdin Roger Longdin has been photographing the landscape and environment for, he says, “ more years than I care to remember. It is a passion and one that to me is emotionally rewarding and satisfying”. Roger has the ability to record the beauty of light in the landscape as he sees it at the time, and convey it to the viewer through the medium of photography. Most of his images are made at dawn or dusk, when the angle of light intensifies the colours and the long shadows accentuate the modelling in the landscape. Every effort is made to reproduce the image as seen as faithfully and accurately as possible using a 5” x 4” large format camera and Fuji colour transparency film printed on Cibachrome photographic paper. Black and white images are made on T-max 100 film and printed on Ilford Multigrade Photographic paper. All images are individually hand printed in the darkroom. Roger feels this technique produces the ultimate in sharpness, depth and tonal range. The images he has presented here represents a précis of some of his personal favourites.

Bob Marshall Bob Marshall is a printmaker who makes prints from photographs using old processes invented in the Victorian era. Each of his prints is individually made by hand and is a unique work of art. Bob creates his own photosensitive paper by coating cotton rag art paper with his home made sensitisers using for example an artist’s brush. Brush strokes in the final print are part of the charm of the process. In recent work, Bob has incorporated other materials into the print surface to give different textures much as a painter might do. The print is made by exposing a large transparent negative on to the paper and then wet processing the print followed by thorough washing and drying. For Bob, his photographic images are the inspiration to fine art and creative printmaking. Bob’s prints in this book use two processes. Cyanotypes are blue prints. The cyanotype process was invented by John Herschel in the 1830s and uses only iron compounds (Bob uses an improved modern recipe invented by Dr Mike Ware made from Iron Ammonium Oxalate and Potassium Ferricyanide). Van Dyke Brown prints are … brown! This was a late Victorian era invention and uses both iron and silver salts (iron ammonium citrate and silver nitrate). Both Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown prints are permanent and should last a lifetime or more. Bob has been a keen photographer throughout his life. He describes it as a full time passion rather than a profession. He has a large collection of more classical landscape images from home and abroad, street photography from his travels and still life, and now concentrates on his recent creative approach to making prints. He uses a variety of cameras to create his images. He still often uses old vintage film cameras and pinhole cameras as well as modern digital cameras. He has had portfolios published in PhotoArt International and work accepted in the London Salon and in Royal Photographic Society members and international exhibitions. He regularly exhibits his work in galleries and from his studio during Bucks Open Studios. He is currently joint Chair of the Visual Images Group which organises Bucks Open Studios. Bob’s prints are held in private collections in the UK and abroad.

Gillian Morgan ARPS DPAGB Gill Morgan says, “I have always owned a camera and enjoyed taking “snaps” but it was only following retirement as a Physiotherapist that I was able to devote more time to something that has become a passion.” A few years ago Gill joined Amersham Photographic Society after visiting the Annual Exhibition. “I had been blown away by the standard of the Photography on show and wanted to produce images of the same standard. The help that I received from many of the “Experienced Members” has been invaluable.” Gill has been very fortunate to have had the opportunity in the last few years to travel to some amazing places both in the UK and abroad. She has trekked in the Himalaya, Peru and Africa sailed to the Antarctic and the Arctic and spent many happy hours standing in the dark in the freezing cold waiting for the right light. Gill enjoys Wildlife, Landscape and Seascape photography. Often using long exposures to add atmosphere and mood to images of water, she shoots in colour and black and white but particularly enjoys black and white. More recently she has started to do some more creative photography with the effects achieved in camera.
