Musical Entertainment

The Gumbo Brothers

Based in Los Angeles, CA, The Gumbo Brothers have been entertaining crowds with New Orleans Funk, R&B and Traditional Jazz for over 20 years. Their music is heavily influenced by the music of south Louisiana, especially New Orleans funk. The initial reason for putting the band together was to perform at the after party at the Venice Beach Mardi Gras Parade. Therefore, their first set was comprised of New Orleans Mardi Gras songs, Cajun songs and other funky dance covers. The following year the band released its first EP of original music entitled “Ass Shakin’ Funk,” followed by two full length albums of original music: Funky Freedom in 2006 and On Fire in 2007. Since the beginning, the band has performed relentlessly at night clubs, bars and parties. The Gumbo Brothers have performed on the Santa Monica Pier’s Twilight Dance Series concert and headlined the Hollywood and Highland Summer Concert.

The Killer Pianos

Having performed over 5,000 shows since 1997, Ryan Bueter and The Killer Dueling Pianos have definitely proven their worth. With previous clients including Nationwide, Toyota Racing Development, Jack In The Box, The L.A. County Sheriffs, Allied Building, the NFL, NBA, PGA and several others, there is no doubt that The Killer Dueling Pianos can deliver. The Killer Dueling Pianos have a well-earned reputation for being professional and polished entertainers who never fail to get the crowd cheering and singing.

Meet the Chefs

Danielle Kuhn

Maison Café + Market, Giana Bakery + Provisions

Kuhn has worked in the restaurant industry since she was in her teens; at 16, she was working at local establishments in Dana Point, like Cannons Seafood Grill. There, Kuhn learned the basics of management and the ins and outs of daily restaurant life. After working at other restaurants and bars around Orange County, she eventually worked her way up to a general manager position at 24. Maison is the result of over two decades of experience in the service industry. Chef Danielle Kuhn opened Maison Café + Market with the mission of creating a space that felt more like home than a restaurant.

Damian Collins Stillwater Spirits and Sounds, Sunsets Capo Beach

As owner of several restaurants and bars, Damian Collins brings a unique understanding of the hospitality business to StillWater Spirits and Sounds and Sunsets Capo Beach. A successful commercial developer and property manager, Damian used his expertise in building design and remodeling to create spaces that are warm and inviting. Damian believes it’s important to create a space that has the latest technology, high-quality materials and classy accents, yet remains a place to gather with friends, enjoy good food and listen to live music. Damian’s support of the community is more than a mere catchphrase – it’s something he has incorporated into the company’s work ethic and culture. By working with local suppliers for the restaurants’ produce, meats and fish, the company is not only helping the local economy, but ensuring customers are getting the highest quality fare. The company supports numerous charities, non-profit and community events throughout the year, including serving Thanksgiving dinner to more than 400 Marines and their families.

Paddy Glennon Superior Seafood, The Ecology Center

Chef Patrick “Paddy” Glennon is an award-winning chef with 26 years of experience in the seafood wholesale and restaurant hospitality business. Paddy’s experience in the seafood industry extends from working as a deck hand on long line cod trawlers off the Georges Bank, to heading & gutting blue fin and big eye tunas, packaging fish for sale and shipment to seafood processing facilities out of the Provincetown Seafood Co-Op, and finally to his current position as Vice President of Sales for Superior Seafood, the West Coast’s premier supplier of fresh and frozen seafood.

General OpERATIONs

Adopt-A-Class was founded by the Board twenty years ago to enable underserved students from primarily Title I schools in low-income communities to visit the Ocean Institute for no fee. To this day, generous sponsors provide unique opportunities for hands-on, out-of-theclassroom learning, which broadens horizons and opens new pathways to successful futures.

Our Adopt-A-Class program enables underserved students from Title I schools across California, to visit the Ocean Institute for hands-on STEM education. The Adopt-A-Class program is crucial to give these students the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom. The program is truly life-changing for these students, as many have never seen the ocean, or been on a boat before.

With your generosity, underserved students from Title I Schools in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles Counties will have an opportunity to learn marine science, maritime history and study the ocean environment while having fun! The cost of $3,500 funds program fees for up to 45 underserved students.

Any amount contributed makes a difference!

“One of my most favorite parts was going on the boat. I saw dolphins and sea lions. I will cherish this memory till I die! Thank you.” —DYLAN H.
