Two future Tigers awarded Music Doing Good Scholarships

(l-r) Marie Bosarge, Dr. Jason Oby, Dr. Merline Pitre, Breanna Lindsey, President Austin A. Lane Music Doing Good, a local non-profit, has partnered with Texas Southern University and three other area schools for a innovative scholarship program, the Music Doing Good College Bound Fund. Marie Bosarge, president and founder of Music Doing Good, hosted an event May 4 announcing the inaugural class of scholarship recipients. TSU proudly boasts of two recipients : Breanna Lindsey and Clinton Walker. Lindsey, a Spring High School senior, will begin her collegiate journey at Texas Southern University this fall, pursing a degree in Music Education with an emphasis on Voice. Walker will be joining Lindsey this fall as a TSU freshman, honing his talents as a classically trained pianist by focusing on Performance while majoring in Music. “ I’m really thankful and humbled to have received this scholarship,” said Lindsey. I can’t wait to get started at the legendary Texas Southern University and continue working toward becoming a music educator.” Lindsey’s parents, Tonya and Darryl Lindsey, along with several TSU faculty and administrator were on hand for the festivities, including President Austin A. Lane. “With the rising cost of tuition, college is not an option for so many families now,” said Bosarge. “ It is heartbreaking to think that many talented young people will not make it to the stage or the classroom for lack of funding. It has been my dream to establish this kind of program, and now it is a reality. “I would like to express our sincere thanks to Ms. Bosarge and her organization, Music Doing Good, on behalf of the students, faculty and staff of Texas Southern University,” said Lane. “Our university has a rich tradition of producing iconic musical artists such as Kirk Whalum, Yolanda Adams, Horace Alexander Young, and the late Joe Sample, to name a few. These scholarships will serve as a catalyst in allowing recipients to develop into the next generation of musical greats hailing form TSU.” The full list of Music Doing Good Scholarship recipients includes TSU-bound Breanna Lindsey (voice) and Clinton Walker (piano); UH-bound Adriana Black (cello) and Josh Gilliam (percussion); St. Thomas-bound Lindsey Larson (piano) and Miriam Soto (percussion) ; and HCC-bound Luther Green ( media arts & technology), Selma Butler (media arts & technology), Natalie Valentine (visual & performing arts) and Daryl Johnson (visual & performing arts),
