Rough surf claims life of NY man, 76 After big wave slams into him just feet from shore, he fails to return to surface By Morgan Pilz Staff Writer (Aug. 30, 2019) A 76-year-old man from New York was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital after being struck by a large wave in kneedeep water on Sunday. Knocked over on 21st Street at 5:05 p.m., the victim, who was not identified by Ocean City authorities, did not resurface and was located by Ocean City Beach Patrol personnel in the 16th Street area. Emergency responders administrated CPR and transported him to the hospital. “Despite the best efforts by our first responders, this was a terrible tragedy for this family and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult time,” said Jessica Waters, communications manager for the town of Ocean City. Strong winds led to turbulent waves over the weekend, requiring surf rescue technicians from the Ocean City Beach Patrol to restrict swimmers from going more than knee-deep in the water. balloon-themed movie promotion got quick traction with Flagship Premium Cinemas, with the company announcing that same day that plans for an alternative publicity campaign were underway for its chain of theaters. Ocean City Surf Club environmental chairwoman Effie Willson said she first became aware of the
promotion for the soon-to-be-released horror flick, “It 2,” early Thursday morning from an area television newscast. “They were promoting the movie and they were talking about the balloons [and how] people could find them and bring them in,” she said. “That’s how it started for me.”
Putting aside her morning java, Willson swiftly sought to sound the alarm bell on social media with her own Facebook post along with commenting on the Flagship Cinemas Ocean City page. “I went to their Facebook page, I went to mine and then started azsending to everybody who were See COMPANY’S Page 8
