OCDC has grants for improvements Financial assistance now available for upgrades to downtown buildings The Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC) has been awarded Façade and Green Building Initiative Program funds from the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) for exterior improvements. It also offers roof improvement funds and is accepting applications from downtown property owners, businesses, and residents. These grant funds are targeted for buildings within the designated area that are located south of 15th Street between the Boardwalk and the Bay as well as properties along the west side of Philadelphia Avenue and both sides of St. Louis Avenue south of

17th Street. Eligible buildings including commercial, residential, buildings with a mix of uses (such as first floor retail and upper floor residential), seasonal employee housing, and single-family houses. Condominium units of six or less units also are eligible. Buildings must be at least 25 years of age. The OCDC Façade Improvement Program can provide a grant up to one-third of the costs of exterior renovation. The maximum grant amount available to an applicant is $7,500. Such improvements may include new exterior siding, porches, exterior stairways, and other exterior improvements. Lighting, fencing, and landscaping are also eligible as part of a comprehensive renovation project.

White Marlin sculpture turns 20 years old In 2002, the OCDC and its Public Art Committee commissioned noted Eastern Shore artist, Paul Lockhart, to complete this artwork. This 14foot tall, stainless steel sculpture provides a grand entrance into Ocean City from the Route 50 Bridge. It is also one of the best photo opportunity spots in Ocean City. Donations to the OCDC paid for this landmark artwork. The water feature was added in 2003 and is well maintained by the City’s Recreation and Parks Department. This was the OCDC’s first public art project with many more to follow. Other OCDC public art projects can be viewed at its website at www.ocdc.org.

The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum is gathering local accounts of how the covid-19 pandemic affects life in the resort.

Museum builds history of pandemic’s effect Asks residents to send in personnal accounts about how covid affected them The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum has launched a new project called “Save Our Stories” and is asking community members to send in their accounts as to how covid-19 has

affected them. Covid-19 has affected everyone in different ways and each story that is submitted will help future generations understand how the pandemic changed this community. Questions such as, “How did news of the virus affect your summer vacation? Your school-age child? Your local business or your everyday rou-

tine?” will help the museum to gather a variety of perspectives and accounts. The submissions can be a specific experience, direct answers to the online prompt questions, or a combination. No story is too long or too short. The community’s participation in this project plays a crucial role in the

success of “Save Our Stories.” “This is an opportunity for everyone’s experience to be acknowledged and valued as what will be a piece of history,” said museum Curator Christine Okerblom. To submit, visit the museum website – ocmuseum.org – and for additional information, contact Christine@ocmuseum.org.
