OCDC offers green building initiatives program As the quieter shoulder season moves, it’s a good time to highlight one of the less known of the OCDC offerings, the Green Building Initiatives Program. This program promotes green building techniques, which is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient. There are numerous benefits to green building design. The Green Building Initiatives Program places the primary emphasis on reducing energy consumption, thus reducing long term costs for business and property owners with an environmentally friendly investment in their property.
Energy Star-rated windows and doors are the common improvements that have been funded through this program. However, the following elements are eligible as well: installation of solar panels, siding that consists of a majority of recycled materials, insulation, “Cool” roofs (Energy Star-rated shingles), as well as other proposed improvements that will increase energy efficiency. Condominiums of more than four units are not eligible. Buildings must be located in the OCDC assistance district, which is generally south of 17th Street. Approved projects are funded on a reimbursable basis. OCDC’s contri-

Free Outdoor Shakespeare returns with Brown Box’s production of “Hamlet,” Shakespeare’s pivotal work that delves deep into the recesses of human consciousness in a raw examination of a treacherous political landscape and one prince’s struggle with the consequences of action, inaction and the ever-terrifying unknown. Murder, treason, intrigue and betrayal culminate to form this harrowing and timeless theatrical masterpiece. Brown Box Theatre Project was founded in 2009 by area native Kyler Taustin. The project’s mission is to create high-quality theater and deliver the unheard voice directly to the communities to expand the reach of professional performing arts.
Hamlet will be performed on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. outdoors at Sunset Park (South Division Street and the bay) in downtown Ocean City. For your comfort, feel free to bring chair. For more information, including weather updates and other area performance dates, visit www.brownboxtheatre.org.
