The SEC offers a wide spectrum of community college opportunities. Over 80 courses are offered each semester, with classes scheduled during the day and evening. The bulk of the courses offered Katie Grofik match popular degree programs that students Student Services and choose such as the Associate in Arts – Liberal Arts Operations Coordinator or the Associate in Sciences – General Education. Other classes fit a specific degree program such as Criminal Justice, Business Administration or the Pre-Nursing requirements. The classes are taught by professors who meet the same requirements as those professors instructing on the Toms River campus, while the intimacy of the SEC allows for a very positive student professor relationship. One student stated, “Especially down here (at the SEC), almost all of my professors that I’ve had, know me by name.” (Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, Fall 2018 Implementation, July 2019) Michele Marcum

In addition to classes, Student Service Advisors are housed at the SEC to assist students with the wide variety of their needs and questions. From the first steps in the process of joining the Ocean County College community to commencement, these Advisors will assist with registration and enrollment, transfer discussions, financial aid support, and most importantly, student advising. The SEC Student Service Advisors’ Office offers a walk- in, one-stop service appointment that will assist and guide students through many of the college procedures. Once classes start, most of the supportive service opportunities that are available on the main campus such as Disability Services, Career Services, Student Life events, college Librarians, counseling, Educational Opportunity and Student Support services, academic coaching, and transfer guidance are also offered at the SEC. Representatives for Kean Ocean and Stockton regularly schedule appointments at the SEC for Instant Decision Days. For any Ocean County College student living in Lacey Township or further south in Ocean County, the opportunity for pursuing your Associate degree is close to home. For the southern county resident, a short drive and convenient parking make the travels of a commuter easier. For nontraditional students, evening classes can assist with your educational opportunity conveniently. The wide array of services and classes offered while at the SEC fully extend all the opportunities of the Toms River campus into the southern portion of Ocean County. The small and intimate setting at the SEC allows for a very personal connection to instruction, advising and support services. Together, the Southern Education Center is Ocean County College offering classes, services and supports.
