“ I’m quite happy to announce that IANTD will be providing training on the Hollis Explorer SCR. I have had the privilege of observing this Rebreather evolve from a concept into a working Model. The first IANTD course on the Explorer will be held in March 2013” Tom Mount ND., Ph.D. Th.D CEO, IANTD inc.
“ We have been involved with the SCR world on all sides of the aisle from its inception and are eager for the launch of this revolutionary new product…” Sean Harrison VP of Training, SDI/TDI
“ I loved diving the Explorer. It has the light, agility you enjoy with single-cylinder open-circuit diving, yet has the quiet, duration and extended no-stop time of closed-circuit. I can see it having a strong following with divers who want the many advantages of a Type-R rebreather, yet don’t want to stray far from the freedom of no-stop open-circuit.” Karl Shreeves Technical Development Executive, PADI Worldwide
OUR HISTORY //
Bob Hollis had his first rebreather experiences in the mid 60’s. He used Draeger units to allow him to get close to Sea Otters and other marine life in Monterey Bay. In 1970, Hollis made some of the first dives on the Electrolung rebreather using Heliox down to 300 feet in Honduras and Bonaire, filming ship wrecks and deep reefs. In 1990, Bob & Oceanic developed the “Phibian” rebreather, which at the time was the only commercially available unit.
In 2000, Hollis’ parent company American Underwater Products under two separate contracts with the United States Naval Surface Warfare Command, developed and delivered a unit called the “ATUBA” (Advanced Tactical Underwater Breathing Apparatus). This solid back-ground of rebreather technology has led to the development of two new units; Prism 2 and Explorer Sport.
HOLLIS REBREATHER DEALER SUPPORT COMMITMENT //
AMERICAN UNDERWATER PRODUCTS ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY POLICY //
As a consumer, you will receive a greater level of support from a Hollis Rebreather Dealer. Not because a non-Rebreather dealer doesn’t care about support. Instead, the Hollis Rebreather Dealer has a greater level of commitment to the complete product line. A Hollis Rebreather Dealer has perfected their diving skills and is at their peak of instruction. They will provide access to rebreather training, service, consumables, upgrades and travel. The view from a Hollis rebreather into the underwater realm is like a view from no other place on earth. Hollis Gear promises to deliver an experience like no other.
American Underwater Products is committed to the preservation of our oceans and supports outreach and awareness programs that develop an understanding of the oceans’ importance to life on earth, the fragility of marine ecosystems, the damage done by pollution, and the threat of overfishing. PRIMARY DISPLAY (HUD)
Each Explorer rebreather ships with a BOV (Bail Out Valve) installed. BOV is a “Bail-out” mouthpiece which gives a quick one handed operation from closed circuit to open circuit supplied by on-board gas. If the Explorer detects a problem, the diver is alerted in two ways.
First is via the LED “heads up” display which provides unit status throughout the dive, signaling GREEN for normal operation, or RED to bailout. Second, the regulator in your mouth vibrates to tell you to bailout with the BOV if you haven’t already done so.
SECONDARY DISPLAY (COMPUTER)
Explorer design utilizes a fixed PO2 and a semi-closed function from a single cylinder of nitrox; ranging from 32-40%. The intelligent electronics supplied with the unit have a pre-dive diagnostic sequence which runs with just a few prompts to the diver.
The unit automatically analyses the gas mixture, adjusts accordingly and performs a series of checks including loop volume & CO2 detection during pre-breathe. Once the Explorer is “ready to dive” the diver is ready to safely enter the water. PRE DIVE
