New and Ongoing Services Highlight Tri-City Medical Center’s Commitment to the Community

After more than 60 years of serving the communities of Vista, Carlsbad and Oceanside, and weathering the impact of a worldwide pandemic, TriCity Medical Center is at an inflection point. We are striving to build upon the successes of our current programs, while imagining a bright future with new and reinvigorated services, technology and facilities to meet the needs of our community. Already known for excellence in the emergency treatment of heart attacks and stroke, TCMC’s emergency room will soon begin a much anticipated remodel beginning early in 2023. That project, which is expected to take approximately a year to complete, will upgrade the waiting room, triage and one of the large treatment areas with new, fresh colors, lighting and furnishings, and is expected to improve wait times and patient experience. Support for this project was provided by the David C. Copley Foundation, Conrad Prebys Foundation and the Tri-City Hospital Foundation, among other generous donors. Building upon the services provided at our Outpatient Behavioral Health clinic in Vista, TCMC and the County of San Diego recently broke ground on a new 16-bed, adult inpatient psychiatric health facility (PHF) on the western edge of the hospital’s Oceanside campus. This standalone building will provide short to midterm inpatient psychiatric care, estimated at 5-7 days, for patients from the local community in need of treatment for a variety of conditions. It has been hailed by North County leaders as a much-needed addition to the behavioral health safety net. That facility, which will be managed and staff by Tri-City Medical Center employees, is anticipated to open in early 2024.

A new 3Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) suite is also in development at the medical center. Opening in spring 2023, this new technology will dramatically elevate diagnostic imaging in North County. Our technology upgrades don’t stop there. Already considered a pioneer in the field of robotic assisted surgery, TCMC recently added a Mako surgical robot, which is the new frontier in joint replacement surgery. Mako joins other robotic surgical systems including Mazor and daVinci to ensure local patients have access to advanced care in their own backyard. With recent and ongoing facility upgrades to our Women and Newborns Services, including our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we are also continuously improving the patient experience for mothers and families who deliver their babies at our medical center. In the coming months, TCMC will also debut a new NICU Hall of Hope, a physical space in the hospital where parents and visitors can learn about the amazing stories of some of our NICU “graduates.” Be sure to keep an eye out for our “Birthdays Start Here” advertising campaign featuring one of our own employees, Respiratory Therapist Dexter Ena, and his daughter Eliana, who was born at our medical center and is a NICU graduate.
