DARK AS HELL: A TRUE CRIME PODCAST Created and hosted by a Rhode Island native!

Beyond the bragging right facts that I was born in October and I shared my childhood home with ghost poodles (which is a story for another time) — I suppose my appreciation for the creepy and telling stories starts at the beginning, and the beginning of this adventure is actually here, in my hometown, of Providence, Rhode Island. Here on College Hill, I grew up knowing the campus quad of Brown University was mine to run wild through, though we all avoided the clock tower in the lower green because we all knew it was haunted by a pox-infested couple from centuries ago; and the cozy nooks of the Providence Athenaeum where I learned to read were inspired by the fact Edgar Alan Poe had a similar love for those same corners and nooks. Even now, as an adult, my apartment sits quite literally in the shadow of the former pied-a-terre belonging to beloved, federally indicted, twice-elected Mayor Buddy Cianci, who allegedly almost beat a man to death in said apartment. If it isn't already clear, I’ve got a thing for the spook factor, and it runs deep. So if you’re looking for a place to explore your own penchant for the spooky and the macabre with a side of dry humor and justice-seeking, welcome. Let’s get ready to get Dark As Hell. I NS TAG RAM : @DARKA SHELLPODCA ST TW I T T ER : @DARKA SH ELLPOD W EBS IT E : COMING SOON!

DI S C OV E R R H O D E I S L A N D OCTOBER 2020

What is your podcast about? Dark as Hell is a weekly true crime podcast dedicated to discussing mysterious stories, asking the inexplicable #questions that arise when it comes to matters of a dark and twisty nature, and exploring the theories that have turned us all into armchair detectives in this little corner of the true crime world. If you had to place your podcast in a genre, which would be the best fit? True crime, with a healthy dose of dark humor all wrapped into a detailed storytelling narrative. Who is the target audience for this podcast? Anyone who has an interest in true crime, appreciates dark comedy, and finds themselves asking critical #QUESTIONS when things don't add up. How often do you release your podcasts? New episodes drop every Monday. For my Patreon subscribers, they have access

to bonus content, exclusive extra episodes, and a livestream event each month, depending on their tier. How long, on average, is each podcast?: I aim to make each episode at least 45 minutes — depending on the case, they're liable to go over, though! I'm very detailed oriented, and dedicated to telling these stories as accurately as I can to do the victims justice.

Anything else you would like to add? Dark As Hell streams on Spotify, Apple, Google Podcasts, Anchor, Breaker, Pocket Casts, and RadioPublic — hopefully coming to other smaller platforms as well in the near future. Come check out the show; I'd love for you to stick around as a DAH Patreon Crew member if you're liking what you're hearing and want to further support my work.

How long have you been working in podcasting? Just about 4 months — I started working on Dark As Hell in mid-May, and the first episode dropped on June 1st. What is your favorite thing about podcasting? I love being able to combine my innate love of writing and my long-standing interest in true crime into a format that both fulfills me personally, and entertains other true crime aficionados. What inspired you to start this podcast? I, like many people, was laid off by COVID-19 in May, so I found myself with a LOT of extra time on my hands very suddenly. I had actually been writing what I called "theses" about some of my pet cases for some friends in a true crime Facebook group before being laid off, and they'd long been begging me to start a podcast. After getting laid off, I decided to just go for it! It's been an insane amount of fun, and as natural people person, I've loved being able to connect with so many people in a time when connection feels even more important. I'm very grateful to have been able to turn a scary personal turn of events into a fulfilling silver lining.

When it comes to wanting cute fall decor for our homes, all too often we get swept up into the idealizations shown to us on social media, especially Instagram. Bloggers with brand partnerships who have been given all of this super cute (and usually expensive) fall decor for free and then post and often pressure you into buying their promo products so you don’t fall behind any of the “trends”. Well, let me help to take the pressure off: No, you are not a bad person or parent or family member if your home is not picture perfect for fall and no, cute fall decor does not have to be what you see online and it does not have to be expensive. What is the most important thing to remember when it comes to shopping for your home decor this fall season? Buy what you like. It doesn’t matter if it’s trendy or popular, if it makes you happy and it is within your means, buy it. So where are some of the best places to purchase fall decor on a budget? Here is a quick little list: 1. TJ Maxx / Home Goods / Marshall’s More often than not, this will be the most

common answer you get when it comes to shopping for anything related to home decor. A word of caution: while I am a major supporter of all of the stores listed above, please be aware that not everything will be affordable. The great thing about these stores is that they can be a gold mine, but to find a good treasure it can take a bit of searching and digging. If you are up for the challenge and have the time, this is a great place to start! 2. Target Dollar Spot This is without a doubt one of my favorite places to pick up small accent pieces for my fall decor. Will I find wreaths or doormats here? No. But, it is the perfect place to find cute accent pumpkins, greenery and signs all for less than $5. If you’re lucky, there are sometimes the cutest blankets and candles too! 3. The Dollar Tree Last, but certainly not least, is the Dollar Tree. Most people write this one off because they consider it to be low quality and “below their standards.” When you want a great deal and some cute decor, nothing should be below your standards. While the quality of Dollar Tree items isn’t top tier, it is perfectly reasonable for some seasonal decor. I have had decor from the Dollar Tree that has lasted me season after season and was totally worth my $1. They also have awesome cards for 50 cents or $1!

Loved this outdoor sign that I found at the Dollar Tree. Only $1 - what a deal!!

The cutest fall floral & knit pumpkin found at the Christmas tree shop. Altogether, it was less than $20!

4. The Christmas Tree Shop While Christmas is in the name, do not let this place fool you because they have the cutest fall decor. With pieces for every color scheme imaginable, this is the perfect place to start your journey. With prices very similar to TJ Maxx and affiliates, you can find high end looking pieces for low end prices. I love to visit this store for floral accents and the variety of

pumpkin accents they have at this time of the year. Also, if you’re a baker like myself, they have the most affordable and tasty baking mixes available and spices! I hope this post has inspired you to step out of your comfort zone this fall and not fall into the Influencer trap that is Instagram. Keep everything within your means and buy what makes you truly happy, because at the end of the day, no one is going to spend more time in your home and see your decor than you are. I have shared some pictures of my home decor finds from this year, if you have any questions about them, feel free to head over to my Instagram page and message me: @dressedinblessings. Happy Fall everyone!
