Ο Νάσος Ναλμπάντης γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην

Αλεξανδρούπολη. Από την εφηβεία τον κέρδισε η τέ-

χνη της φωτογραφίας. Παρακολούθησε τα σεμινάρια

φωτογραφίας στα ΝΕΛΕ Αλεξανδρούπολης. Συνέχι -

σε τις σπουδές φωτογραφίας στην Αθήνα αρχικά στη

FOCUS, School of Photography και μετέπειτα στη LEICA

ACADEMY ΙΙΕΚ.

Από το 1994 και την πρώτη ομαδική έκθεση στην οποία

συμμετείχε, και το 1996 με την πρώτη ατομική του έκθε-

ση, δεν έχει σταματήσει να εκθέτει τη δουλειά του που

αφορά στη δημιουργική φωτογραφία – φωτογραφία

δρόμου και στη φωτογραφία φύσης.

Έχει συνεργαστεί με γνωστά περιοδικά όπως: National Geographic, National Geographic Τravelle r, ενώ είναι

μόνιμος συνεργάτης-φωτογράφος του περιοδικού Ελ -

ληνικό Πανόραμα.

Έχει συμμετάσχει σε λευκώματα και εκδόσεις του Εθνι -

κού Θεάτρου και του Εθνικού Πάρκου Δάσους Δαδιάς – Λευκίμης – Σουφλίου.

Θέλοντας να μεταδώσει τις γνώσεις του οργανώνει, με

μεγάλη επιτυχία, μαθήματα φωτογραφίας στον Δήμο

Τυχερού και στο εργαστήριο φωτογραφίας του Εθνο -

λογικού Μουσείου Θράκης.

Μέχρι και σήμερα, φωτογραφίζει καθημερινά, επικε-

ντρωμένος στα

Nasos Nalmpantis was born and raised in Alexandroupolis. From a young age he became interested in the art of photography. He attended photography seminars at the Prefectural Committee for Popular Education (NELE) in Alexandroupolis. He then continued his studies on photography in Athens, studying initially at the FOCUS School of Photography and later at the Private Institute for Professional Training LEICA ACADEMY.

Since 1994 when he showed his work on his first group exhibition and 1996 when he launched his first individual exhibition, he has not stopped exhibiting his work which is related to creative photography - street photography and photography of nature.

He has collaborated with well-known magazines such as: National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler and he is a permanent collaborator-photographer of the magazine Hellenic Panorama.

He has participated with his work in albums and publications of the National Theater and the Management Body of Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park. Eager to pass on his knowledge, he organizes with great success photography courses in the Municipality of Tychero, as well in the photography workshop of the Ethnological Museum of Thrace.

To this day, he takes photographs daily, focusing on the two types of photography he loves most: nature photography and street photography.

Λίγα λόγια… Ταξιδεύοντας έχεις την ευκαιρία να δεις μνημεία, αρχιτεκτονικούς θησαυρούς, πανέμορφα τοπία φύσης, ανθρώπους διάσημους και ισχυρούς, αλλά και τεμένη, χώρους λατρείας και γαστρονομικούς παραδείσους.

Παρ’ όλα αυτά, η άλλη όψη μιας πόλης, μιας αόρατης πόλης, είναι το δικό μου ζητούμενο. Ήρωες οι καθημερινοί άνθρωποι, που ζουν, φωνάζουν, μιλούν, χορεύουν, κλαίνε, δουλεύουν, ζητιανεύουν, κάθονται, δημιουργούν ένα σκηνικό χάους σε αόρατες γειτονιές και δρόμους. Αυτές τις σκηνές καδράρω, προσπαθώντας να βάλω τη δική μου τάξη στην αταξία αυτού του κόσμου. Σε μια αόρατη και ασήμαντη –για κάποιους– πόλη, με αόρατους και ασήμαντους –για κάποιους– ανθρώπους, όχι όμως για μένα. Για μένα είναι οι ήρωες της ιστορίας που καταγράφει ο δικός μου φακός…

A few words...

While traveling one has the opportunity to view impressive monuments, architectural treasures, beautiful natural landscapes and even see or meet famous and powerful people. One, also, has the opportunity to visit magnificent religious mosques, picturesque churches, places of worship, as well as taste culinary heavens.

Nevertheless, the “other side” of a city, the unseen city, is my quest. The everyday people those who live, yell, talk, dance, cry, work, beg, lie around create a chaotic, yet panoramic scene in these covert neighborhoods and streets. These are the heroes of my stories. I blend with them and capture scenes of their lives in an attempt to create my own sense of order within the existing disorder of this world. That which for some people might be considered as unseen and trivial, be it the city and its people, is for me the embodiment of my stories captured through my lens…

και τέλος. Όλα είναι

δρόμος, η ζωή, το νερό, η κίνηση, οι σκέψεις. Μέσω του δρόμου, εναέριου, θαλάσσιου ή στεριανού, ταξιδεύω και αναζητώ εικόνες, χωρίς τρίποδο, χωρίς πολλή σκέψη, σχεδόν ενστικτωδώς, καδράρω και φωτογραφίζω. Προσπαθώ να μην επεξεργάζομαι εκ των υστέρων τις φωτογραφίες μου. Δεν κροπάρω σχεδόν ποτέ. Συνθέτω την εικόνα στη λήψη και την αφήνω να πάρει τον δικό της δρόμο.

Αυτός είναι ο τρόπος μου. Με ενδιαφέρουν τα

I hear their voices, I watch their movements alongside the movements of my thoughts, trying to isolate through my lens fragments of chaos and randomness. Trying to frame portions and moments from the lives or works of ordinary people around the world. These are my extraordinary heroes...

The road is the means, the journey, the starting and end point. Everything is included on the road. Life, water, movement, thoughts. Be it by air or on foot, or by car, I travel yearning to see through images, letting my tripod go, without too much of a thought, almost instinctively… I frame, I click. I try not to post-edit my photos. I hardly ever crop. I compose the image in the shot and then I let it take its course.

This is my way. I am interested in everything. People, animals, buildings and everything that surrounds us, natural or constructed. Parallel voices. Parallel lives. Humans… People who make up so different, yet so similar lives everywhere on earth...

Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά και συγκίνηση απόλαυσα τη δημιουργική φωτογραφική δουλειά του Νάσου στο εξαιρετικό του λεύκωμα «ON THE ROAD».

Ο Νάσος με τις φωτογραφίες του διοχετεύει ουμανισμό, θέτει τα φώτα της δημοσιότητας στον άνθρωπο, που πάντα είναι το κέντρο της προσοχής του. Χρησιμοποιεί τη φωτογραφική του μηχανή ως μια

γέφυρα που συνδέει διαφορετικούς ανθρώπους σε διαφορετι -

κούς τόπους και με διαφορετικούς πολιτισμούς, με ιστορίες και συ -

ναισθήματα που μοιράζονται. Αυτό που κάνει τις φωτογραφίες του

Νάσου να διαφέρουν από άλλες παρόμοιες παρουσιάσεις είναι η ευαισθησία και ο ρεαλισμός του. Ο Νάσος στη συγκεκριμένη φωτογραφική ενότητα έχει αφιερώσει

πολύ χρόνο και κόπο, παρατηρώντας και μελετώντας ανθρώπους διαφορετικού υπόβαθρου. Δεν του αρέσει να σκηνοθετεί, αλλά απαθανατίζει

λάβουμε καλύτερα τον άνθρωπο.

Nasos’s photos tell us many stories...

I enjoyed the creative photographic artwork of Nasos in his excellent album “ON THE ROAD” with extreme joy and emotion.

Nasos’s photos channel humanism as he puts Man on the spotlight and in the center of his attention. He uses his camera as a strong bridge that connects different people from different places, with different cultures, yet with stories and emotions that they all share. What makes Nasos's photographs different from other similar presentations is his sensitivity and realism.

In this particular photographic section, Nasos has devoted a lot of time and effort, observing and studying people of different backgrounds. He does not like to direct. Instead, he captures realistic moments with unsuspecting protagonists and his approach allows us to delve into his heroes and understand them better.

The photographs of young children on the playground depict much more than children playing; they reveal their feelings and their stories.

The artistic value of Nasos's overall work is the result of his ability to compose his frames with impeccable aesthetics and to choose decisive capturing moments, creating images filled with strong emotions.

It is this realistic rendering that sets Nasos’s humanistic approach apart from other genres of travel photography and makes his photographs distinctly more interesting.

Concluding, my dear Nasos, I wish you a great and tireless creative continuity. I am proud of you, and I am sure that our great teacher, late Kostas Mpalafas, is also proud “watching” us from above.

Αν θα μπορούσαμε να βάλουμε έ ναν γενικό τίτλο στο φωτογραφικό

έ ργο του Νάσου Ναλμπάν τη, θα ήταν «Ανθρώπινες ιστορί ες». Μια

δουλει ά που κρατάε ι έ να αόρατο νή μα και τον συνδέε ι με το παρελ-

θόν αποδίδοντας τα σέβη του στους Μasters of Photography και ταυ -

τόχ ρονα κλε ίνει το μάτι στους νέους ως άξιος συνεχιστής μιας φωτο -

γραφικ ής σχολής που τε ίνει να εξαφανιστεί.

Το «On the road» ε ίναι ένα βιβλ ίο που με τον τίτλο του και μόνο

εκφράζει την κουλτούρα του δημιουργού του, ενός ανθρώπου που

βρίσκεται διαρκώς στον δρόμο δημιουργών τας εικόνες με αμεσότητα και ειλικρίνεια. Ένας φωτογράφος ενστί κ του που ε ίτε είναι στην Κούβα, ε ίτε στην Κ ίνα, αλλά ακόμα και όταν βρεθε ί σ την Αθήνα, στα -

ματάε ι τον χρόνο χαράζοντας φωτογραφικές στιγμές που δεν μπο -

ρούν να αφήσουν αδι άφορο τον θεατή.

On the road…

If we would like to put a general title on the photographic work of Nasos Nalmpantis this would be “Human stories”. This is a work of art that holds an invisible thread which connects his creator with the past paying his respects to the old Masters of Photography, and at the same time winking at the younger generation of photographers, as a worthy successor of a photographic school that tends to disappear.

“ON THE ROAD” is a work that as its title alone expresses, renders the culture of its creator, a man who is constantly on the road creating images with immediacy and honesty. An instinctive photographer who, irrespective of where he is placed, either Cuba or China or Athens, he succeeds in freezing time by capturing photographic moments that cannot leave the viewer unmoved and indifferent.

Human-centered and a craftsman without chatter and novelties in his approach, his is focused on transparent photographs, working with face and space, composing a frame with depth and interest. With his wide-angle lens as his main vehicle, Nasos Nalmpantis sets himself almost in front of the people who pique his interest in search of that one click. However, even when he prefers a less wide-angle lens or when he uses forms to put emphasis, his stance remains the same. His choice to present uncropped photographs follows him from his very first steps and it feels like an inner desire to convey to us —pure and unchanged— what he sees in the viewfinder of the camera, as a personal expression.

In this album, Nasos Nalmpantis introduces us to his world with a selection of 124 black and white pictures of everyday life, taken in 12 different countries, trying to make us feel part of an agreement, become his fellow travelers and discover a sociological angle in his viewpoint. This is the noticeable difference of “ON THE ROAD” from a usual travel album.
