The psychedelia of sadness

«Dark enough to consume you, dreamy enough to captivate you and raw enough to identify yourself with it»

ELENA KARRA

My first poetry compilation, ‘The psychedelia of sadness’, is consisted of 60 confessional poems. Love, lust, death and a yearning nostalgia are the main themes of my poetry. Each poem is a unique part of myself and my story that I decided it is meant to be read by people like me, people who romanticize every second of their life, people who overdose dreams unapologetically and people who love the wrong ones like there’s no tomorrow… People who turned our ‘I love you’ into ghosts inside our throat.

The psychedelia of sadness

POETRY

Dedicated to my younger self who’s still growing up like a poem in progress… To the one who left me with heartbreak and inspiration for a lifetime and to everyone around me who had no idea who I really am till this moment… I hope you feel proud, not guilty…

The psychedelia of sadness You, my old man, used to slip your fingers on my tongue before you cross them to pray… Your kiss stings me like a scorpion and takes the sins out of my mouth turning them into butterflies that will die soon… I divided my sadness in six white lines on your table and snorted them all at once… Tell me… Have you ever seen something more psychedelic than me crying for you? We never made love… Only self destruction… The trust between us a broken mirror giving us seven years of bad luck and the fallen glass pieces edgy lies stabbing each other’s fragile truth… I found comfort swimming underwater without breathing… Only sobbing… I hallucinated myself in suffering… My suffering felt like dreaming… Dreaming of your hands hurting me…

I carry my tears like drugs inside the bags under my grunge eyes… Only when I’m all alone, I can release them… My crying for you is illegal… My sadness is a crime… When I made known to you the pain you caused, you thought I was exaggerating to the point I would be a drug user… But I was… And I’m still one… A drug user of my melancholy… Every time I overdose from my heartache, you appear like a paranormal phenomenon and my walls fall as effortlessly as a domino… You’re the escape room in my mind, the abusive home I continue living in… I let death run down my cheeks when you’re not here to hit them… Your presence is not enough for my rehabilitation… With Neptune as the father of my perception I could never escape my infatuation for this kind of life, which I call the psychedelia of sadness…

Summer dream We started as a summer dream… Innocence got lost in the stars of July… We were making love as if we were waves in the sea, as if we were comets crushing in the skyline… We both dived in the black holes of each other’s sinful bodies… You had your heart totally closed and you broke mine with your eyes… And then we became a nightmare with our broken wings on the floor… Your touch felt like the touch of an alien without any feelings and cold…
