GETTING GETTING
FIT:
Finding a Personal Trainer By Amanda Usher
F
inding the right personal trainer can prove to be a difficult task, but with the following tips, a person will be able to find one that is perfect for helping them along their journey to getting fit. What’s most essential for a person to discover while on the prowl for a personal trainer is whether or not they hold an NCCA-accredited certification, according to the American Council on Exercise (ACE Fit), an organization that offers training certifications, fitness programs, among many other health and wellness items. NCCA stands for National
TopDocs_2014_correct_size.indd 5
Commission for Certifying Agencies, a business that serves to accredit certification programs or organizations that measure professional capability. “This will give you the assurance that you are working with a professional who has the knowledge and skills to provide you with a safe and effective workout,” ACE Fit noted on its web site, acefitness.org. Aside from being certified, a trainer should also have an educational background in exercise science, or a related field of study, and experience with their client’s particular need. After checking into their certification and background, clients should check to see if the
fitness professional carries liability insurance. Having insurance shields the trainers from client lawsuits concerning injuries or damages. The trainer’s business policies, i.e. cancellation policies, should also be taken into consideration. One question that comes to mind when choosing a trainer is “How much is it going to cost me?” This depends on the trainer’s expertise, location, facility prices (if not an independent contractor) and the type, frequency and length of the session that is being offered. Like any relationship, communication is a key component to a trainer/client Continues on page 6 TOP DOCS | 5
10/6/14 4:12 PM
From page 5 relationship. Those seeking a professional trainer should find someone who genuinely cares about assisting them in reaching their goal. It’s important for both parties to get along and like one another, and for the trainer to be motivating and positive. For those with a history of medical conditions or injuries, trainers are to tailor their programs to those needs as well as contact the person’s physician to gain clearance for that person to participate in the program. “If you are receiving care for a medical or orthopedic condition, a personal trainer should obtain your consent to discuss exercise guidelines and contraindications with your healthcare provider,” according to ACE Fit.
The trainer’s accommodation to their client’s schedule also come into play. “The knowledgeable and experienced personal trainer who fits your style is the one to hire — because that is the professional who will help you achieve the best results,” ACE Fit noted. For people who are seeking fitness trainers, IDEA Health and Fitness Association has a setup on its website that helps people
to identify which type of personal trainer they desire. After first entering the state then city in designated fields, a list of trainers will be displayed in the results. Featured on the trainers’ profiles are their biographies, experience and certifications, client reviews, rates, a questionand-answer section with the trainer, degrees obtained, payment methods, map locations, specialties and much more. For further research, if a match is not made from the site, then people should not worry because there are fitness gyms that house personal trainers. Visit the gyms and their web sites to learn more. Visit ideafit.com to see the full list of profiles and their features to learn about each trainer available.

all has approached, and has brought with it unique outdoor scenery that can be seen on many of Atlanta’s hiking, biking, jogging and walking trails. If you’ve been waiting to beat the summer heat, now is the time to hit the trails. Here’s a list of a few of the trails in metro Atlanta that await: The Atlanta BeltLine Stretching as far as 22 miles, the historic Atlanta BeltLine connects several downtown Atlanta neighborhoods and
businesses and consists of four multi-use trails for walkers, joggers, bicycle riders and also pets. Pets are to always be on a leash when on the trail grounds. Trail hours are from 6 a.m. through 11 p.m. Restaurants are located alongside the trails for those who want to get a bite to eat. Local law enforcement from the Atlanta Police Department’s Path Force Unit patrols each trail to ensure safety. The Eastside Trail runs for 2.25 miles around areas such as Piedmont Park, the Old Fourth Ward, Virginia Highland, PonceyHighland and Inman Park. To park near this particular trail,
one option available is the paid parking lot on Monroe Drive beside Park Tavern. The Northside Trail plays host to the annual Northside 5K Race, which is a part of the Atlanta BeltLine Running Series. Running alongside Collier Road, it connects Ardmore Park, Atlanta Memorial Park and Tanyard Creek Park reaching approximately one mile. What will soon be 4.5 miles, the Southwest Connector Trail is currently 1.15 miles long and bonds together the Lionel Hampton Trail with Westwood Continues on page 10

Dr. Khamis W. Ibrahim CHIROPRACTOR
Dr. Khamis W. Ibrahim has been providing chiropractic care in the Dekalb County community for the past 14 years. He is a graduate of the University of Florida and holds a doctor of chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta, GA. He is board certified in physiotherapy and is an active member in good standing with the Georgia Chiropractic Association. Dr. Ibrahim has also done volunteer work with the Special Olympics of Georgia. Located in the heart of Lithonia and only a mile from Stonecrest Mall, his clinic provides a multi-disciplinary approach to physical medicine by providing chiropractic, medical and physiotherapy treatments. His facility, Eastside Allied Health and Lithonia Chiropractic Clinic, treats a wide array of conditions such as Headaches, Neck pain, Shoulder/Arm pain, Upper and Middle back pain, Lower back pain, leg pain and numbness and joint pain related to arthritis. Dr. Ibrahim enjoys helping his patients return to their lifestyle without the pain. Auto Injuries, sports injuries, work-
related injuries and slip and fall injuries can have very serious long term effects if not treated properly and in a timely manner. Dr. Ibrahim has been very successful with treating these types of injuries by properly diagnosing the injury, implementing the correct treatment plan and documenting the injuries to help his patients maximize their healing process. In addition, his facility has been very successful treating patients with Disc Herniations without the use of surgery. His state-of-the-art Accu Spina decompression table has been helping his patients with disc bulges and herniations for years. Disc herniations and bulges have played a major role in severe low back pain and/or leg pain (sciatica). Over 90% of disc herniations occur in the lumbar spine (lower back) and is one of the most common causes of disability in the United States of America today. His facility offers radiology services (x-rays) and if an MRI is needed for further evaluation that can be discussed with the patient and offered at a facility where your insurance is accepted. In addition, chiropractic care has been very
useful and successful with patients who are under wellness care and receive spinal adjustments on a regular basis. Eastside Allied Health will welcome you with very convenient hours and same day appointments. In addition, they will file all the necessary paperwork you will need for your insurance company and they will accept attorney liens in cases where you have been injured. Most insurances are accepted. For more information you can call us at (770) 482-1114 or please visit our website: www.eastsidealliedhealth.com

DR. NAILAH SMITH, D.C.
Seeking Better Health and Less Pain the Holistic Way
H
CHIROPRACTOR
ave you ever considered seeing a Chiropractor for relief from pain? Whether it’s a result of personal injury, overexertion, or just life, chiropractic can help! Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic care is not just for back pain and massages. This art of healing also manages headaches, arthritis, disc herniations, fibromyalgia, sciatica, arm and leg pain, says Dr. Smith. Dr. Nailah Smith, D.C., the owner of The Full Body Rejuvenation Center in Lithonia, has had the experience of putting her passion of chiropractic medicine and helping people to the test. With her skills and expertise, Dr. Smith was recently able to save the life of a patient who was evaluated for chronic lower back pain. Through orthopedic tests, a comprehensive chiropractic examination, and a lumbar spinal X-Ray, Dr. Smith detected the patient had calcification of the abdominal aorta which can be deadly. “As a Doctor of Chiropractic, I am able to diagnose a wide range of common ailments and refer patients out to the appropriate specialist dependent on the patient’s condition,” Dr. Smith said. FBRC doesn’t only specialize in chiropractic care; they also boast weight management programs, nutritional cleansing, massage therapy, and physiotherapy. Chiropractic care and massage therapy, both deal with the maintenance and improvement of the human frame while nutritional supplementation and cleansing help aid the body’s digestive and immune system. A goal of Full Body Rejuvenation Center is to bring upscale, spa-like amenities to DeKalb County without the downtown traffic. Dr. Smith is known for promoting full body wellness and “putting the care back in healthcare.”
Dr. Smith is also in tuned to the ever-growing facets of the healthcare industry. She is a certified doctor to perform MUA, or Manipulation Under Anesthesia. MUA is a manual therapy treatment used to improve articular and soft tissue movement using controlled release, myofascial manipulation, and mobilization techniques. The patient is lightly anesthetized to achieve total relaxation and then adjustments and stretching movements are quickly accomplished. MUA is great for patients who have chronic problems with neck, back, and joints. It also helps repair conditions caused by long-term disabilities, accidents, and injuries that have been unresponsive to conventional treatment or for those that are highly sensitive to pain. Dr. Smith encourages people to pay attention to warning signs from their bodies, such as morning stiffness and chronic aches and pains. A spinal adjustment may be one of the keys to enjoying a more healthy and active lifestyle. “Regular visits to the chiropractor may save on unnecessary pain medications, days of illness, and risks of having surgery.”

WellCare, Children’s Healthcare unite to support healthy pregnancies WellCare Health Plans, Inc. has donated $50,000 to the charitable foundation of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s), one of the largest pediatric clinical care providers in the country, to help fund an initiative that advances education in support of healthy pregnancies in Georgia. The donation will support the Strong4Life Healthy Pregnancy Program, which will train OB/GYNs and certified nurse midwives how to improve nutrition, increase physical activity and promote healthy weight management during pregnancy. The health care
provider training program focuses on building motivational interviewing skills, and offers assessment and educational tools. It will be used to recruit and train new health care providers and reach pregnant mothers across Georgia. Excessive weight gain during pregnancy can cause serious health risks for both mothers and babies, and has been shown to increase the likelihood of childhood obesity. The ability to listen to the smallest of voices is a skill that Herbert Singleton, M.D. has honed during his 32 years of practicing medicine. A board-certified pediatrician, he treats Kaiser Permanente’s youngest members at the health care organization’s Crescent Medical Center in Tucker. In fact, it was Singleton’s close relationship with his own pediatrician, who he describes as a “caring, gentle, giant of a man,” that inspired him to pursue a career in pediatric medicine. With patients from all over the world, Singleton credits his ability to connect with parents and children from various backgrounds to his upbringing in a diverse community and experience living across the U.S. and abroad. That ability to connect is critical in his medical practice. In addition to providing routine pediatric care, Singleton specializes in diagnosing and treating children with developmental disorders, such as autism. Puzzles, games and drawing activities are among the playful, yet meaningful, tools Singleton uses to evaluate children with suspected autism. He completed a three-year fellowship in neurodevelopmental pediatrics and devotes hours to evaluating each child—looking for specific behavioral features associated with the disorder. Singleton also engages the parents, who he says often have insights that can be helpful in providing a clinical diagnosis. When children are diagnosed with developmental disorders, he coordinates their care with other providers, partnering with Kaiser Permanente’s behavioral health team and arranging support services such as physical, speech and occupational therapy. Singleton believes keeping his patients healthy is a team effort. He encourages parents to become health advocates for their children, ensuring they follow through on recommendations and maintain an open line of communication. My Health Manager, a feature of Kaiser Permanente’s electronic medical record, enables Singleton to stay connected with parents. Through the online program, parents can securely e-mail him questions, often avoiding unnecessary appointments, as well as schedule appointments, order prescription refills, review their child’s medical history and print shot records. Singleton is one of more than 450 board-

Q& A
with
Dr. Elizabeth Kobe
of Montreal
I
OB/GYN
t’s very easy to hear only part of the whole story when listening to television talk shows or reading short health articles these days. Elizabeth Kobe, D.O., a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology with DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Montreal OB/GYN in Tucker, Ga., answers a few of the most frequently asked questions that are not always fully answered in popular media outlets: Q. I’ve been on birth control pills for a number of years. How long should I wait after stopping birth control to try to get pregnant?
Dr. Elizabeth Kobe OB/GYN
A. I usually recommend that people wait until they have had 2 menses (periods) after stopping birth control pills before trying to conceive. Oral contraceptives and other forms of birth control thin the uterine lining. This time allows the uterine lining to become a healthy (“thicker”) environment for the developing embryo to implant. During the 2 months coming off oral contraceptives it is advised to keep track of periods on a calendar, eat healthy, exercise, avoid alcohol and begin taking prenatal vitamins.

Q. Now that the United States Preventive Services Task Force and the American Cancer Society do not recommend pap smears every year for all women, how often should I see my gynecologist? A. Screening for cervical cancer with a pap smear is a small part of the gynecology wellness exam. Women should continue to see their doctor every year because the physical also includes checks for fibroids or ovarian cysts, breast exams and a review of medical history to see what other screening tests should be ordered, such as mammograms or bone density exams. It’s also important to let the doctor decide if a pap smear is needed because the guidelines can be confusing and are related to an individual’s personal medical history, previous pap smear results and age. Q: Are prenatal vitamins important? If so, when should I take them? Prenatal vitamins are very important not only for the growing baby, but also for the mother. If you are unable to get enough of the most important vitamins through your diet, you should take a prenatal supplement that has folic acid, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin D, iron and calcium. If you decide a supplement is best for you, consider starting to take it at least one month before you plan to conceive and then continue through pregnancy and into breastfeeding. Folic acid is a B vitamin which, when taken the month before and throughout pregnancy, can help prevent most major birth defects of the baby’s brain and spinal cord. Women need to get 400 micrograms of folic acid per
day. It can come from natural foods that are high in folate such as lentils, spinach, black beans, peanuts, orange juice and broccoli or supplements or a combination of both. Omega3 -fatty acids are also important for women if they are pregnant or breastfeeding. It supports the baby’s brain and eye development. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding need 200 mg of DHA per day. It is found in fish (including salmon, herring, sardines, and fresh water trout, and tuna), nuts and oils like soybean, canola and olive oil. You can eat up to 12 ounces of these fish/ week; they don’t contain a significant amount of mercury. There are also DHA supplements that can be taken if women don’t get these foods in their diet. Pregnant women need extra iron to help their body make more blood to supply oxygen to the developing baby. They need 27 mg of iron per day. Iron is found in red meat, green leafy vegetables and fortified cereals, and most prenatal vitamins. Calcium and vitamin D are needed to build healthy bones and teeth in the baby. Women over age 19 need at least 1000 mg of calcium per day. Milk and dairy are the best sources of calcium and vitamin D. Women can also take a supplement if they don’t have a diet high in calcium. Q. What foods or drinks should I avoid during pregnancy? Some seafood needs to be avoided due to high mercury content which can cause birth defects. This can be confusing because patients should get DHA/omega 3 fatty acids which are found in fish. The best fish to
eat is shrimp, salmon, catfish and pollock. White tuna (albacore) should be limited to 6 ounces a week. It is best to avoid shark, swordfish and other larger fish. Due to the risk of food borne bacteria it is recommended to not eat raw or undercooked seafood, eggs or meat… no sushi! It is recommended to avoid unpasteurized milk, hot dogs and cold cuts (lunch meat) unless they are heated thoroughly before serving to prevent listeriosis, a food borne illness caused by bacteria. Dr. Betty Dillon helps to restore college student’s smile after armed robbery attack By Valerie J. Morgan
W
hen Dr. Betty Dillon of Gentle Family Dentistry, PC heard news reports that a 22-yearold aspiring fashion model and college student in Atlanta had lost two front teeth during an armed robbery attack, she knew she had to do something to help. Because of the brutal attack that left her toothless, the student said she had to cancel several modeling jobs she had lined up. Dillon, who has offices in Stone Mountain and Norcross, reached out to Zaynah Mason and offered her free dental services to restore her beautiful smile. “I just wanted to do something to help. She lost two teeth and she suffered a lot of trauma to her mouth. She’s going to need surgery, a temporary bridge and two implants,” said Dillon, who
‘That’s when he hit me and I saw my two teeth fly from my mouth.’ – Zaynah Mason estimated the cost at $10,000 to $15,000 if Mason had to pay out of pocket. Dillon and her brother, Dr. Tracy Dillon, an oral surgeon, have promised to do the work for free. Mason said she was walking home when she was attacked in broad daylight on Sept. 23 near the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. A woman walked up to her and
pepper sprayed her in the eyes and a man pointed a gun at her. Mason struggled with the man, trying to get the gun. “That’s when he hit me and I saw my two teeth fly from my mouth,” Mason told Dillon as an 11Aive television (WXIA) news crew filmed Mason undergoing treatment in Dillon’s Norcross office. Mason said the attackers got away with her two cellphones, credit cards, about $10 in cash and some “nice lipsticks.” Dillon said although Mason is now on the road to recovery, she faces about six months of treatment. Mason not only lost two teeth, but had two teeth damaged during the attack. Dillon said one of the damaged teeth was loose and the fourth likely would need a root canal. Dillon often gives back through her practice. Every year, she hosts a health fair and provides free dental cleanings, dental extractions and screenings. In fact, she and her brother held this year’s fair on Sept. 20 in conjunction with the Georgia Dental Society at her office at 900 N. Hairston Road in Stone Mountain.

Important tips to protect kids in fall sports Back-to-school sports season linked to ankle injuries. If your children are playing sports this fall, you should pay attention to six tips that could protect them from serious ankle injuries. Every fall, foot and ankle surgeon Jocelyn K. Curry, DPM, FACFAS notices an increase in ankle injuries among young athletes she sees in her Lithonia and Midtown Atlanta offices. Football, soccer and basketball are the sports most likely to lead to sprains, broken bones and other problems, she says. Dr. Curry’s top recommendation is for parents to get ankle injuries treated right away. “What seems like a sprain is not always a sprain. In addition to cartilage injuries, your son or daughter might have injured other bones in the foot without knowing it. Have a qualified doctor examine the injury,” says Dr. Curry. “The sooner rehabilitation starts, the sooner we can prevent long-term problems such as instability or arthritis, and the sooner your child can get back into competition.” Dr. Curry says parent should also follow these additional tips from the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons’ Web site, FootHealthFacts.org: • Have old sprain checked by a doctor before the season starts. A medical check-up can reveal whether your child’s previously injured ankle might
be vulnerable to sprains, and could possibly benefit from wearing a supportive ankle brace during competition. • Children should start the season with new shoes. Old shoes can wear down like a car tire and become uneven on the bottom, causing the ankle to tilt because the foot can’t lie flat. • Check playing fields for dips, divots and holes. Most sports-related ankle sprains are caused by jumping and running on uneven surfaces. That’s why some surgeons recommend parent walk the field, especially when children compete in non-professional settings like public parks, to check for spots that could catch a player’s foot and throw them to the ground. Alert coaching officials to any irregularities. • Encourage stretching and warm-up exercises. Calf stretches and light jogging before competition helps warm up ligaments and blood vessels, reducing the risk for ankle injuries. For more information on treating ankle sprains, visit the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons’ patient information Web site: FootHealthFacts.org Dr. Curry can be contacted at 770-981-9011

I could hear them saying amongst themselves, ‘I like this’ and ‘I hope she comes back.’ So I think it worked for them,” said Bradfield. Bradfield says she has felt a sense of pride from her work at her high school alma mater. She was invited to teach the football team yoga at the request of Coach Michael Harper, a fellow alum. Harper reached out to Bradfield after seeing her yoga selfies and inspirational quotes on social media. “I put Jasmine on the team because I remembered her enthusiasm for football when I was a player here at Stephenson,” said Harper, who started coaching at Stephenson in Spring 2013. “She is a diehard Stephenson football fan and she has a high football IQ.” Bradfield, 24, began practicing yoga in 2007, just after graduating from Stephenson. She said she yoga helped her to focus, attain spiritual solace, relax and exercise. She enjoyed yoga so much that she decided to become a yoga instructor. “I was never athletic prior to studying yoga. I took yearbook and four years of gym,” said

Bradfield. “I liked stretching and eventually, was asked by my gym instructor to lead my peers in stretching before gym class began. I did this so I wouldn’t have to dress out and to avoid taking electives.” These days, yoga is Bradfield’s passion and understandably so. Yoga, which has been around for more than 5,000 years, has become increasingly popular in today’s health and fitness scene. Based on published articles and news reports, several professional football teams including the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants, have turned to yoga for its physical benefits, such as

improved flexibility. Many practitioners tout yoga’s benefits of not only improved flexibility, but stress relief and overall wellbeing, according to the American Yoga Association. Yoga literally means “to join or yoke together” which is in keeping with the combination of mind, body and spirit of the practice. Harper believes that the yoga practice will pay off for the 5A Jaguars who had a 9-3 record, losing in the early rounds of playoffs last year. Stephenson had the second best record in the county behind Tucker High School, which had a 14-1 record.

Dr. Betty Dillon Dr. Betty Dillon is a native of Magnolia, Mississippi, and she received a B.S. in Chemistry in 1986 from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. In 1995, Dr. Dillon received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, (DDS), from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN. In that same year, Dr. Dillon became a board certified practicing dentist. In the two years that followed, she developed and perfected her skills in dentistry while serving as an associate dentist with several of her colleagues in the Atlanta area. In 1997, Dr. Dillon set out to start her own practice and opened Gentle Family Dentistry P.C., in Stone Mountain, Georgia. As a result of the success with Gentle Family Dentistry P.C., Dr. Dillon felt the need to give back to the community by hosting “Dentistry from the Heart” which has further led to Dentistry/“Healing from the Heart” whereby Physicians and Dentists join together to deliver free healthcare to the Community. Dr. Dillon is board certified (SRTA), and a member in good standing with the following organizations: • National Dental Association (NDA ) • Georgia Dental Society (GDS) (President 2014) • North Georgia Dental Society (held office of secretary) • The Georgia Dental Association (GDA) • The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) • The American Dental Association (ADA) Dr. Dillon is pursuing fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry and currently a Fellow of the American Orthodontic Society. Dr. Dillon owns and operates a 3500 sq foot dental office which encompasses separate pediatric and adult dental units. Dr. Dillon attends the Changing A Generation Full-gospel Church in Decatur Georgia where she is a minister in Trainng under the leadership of Bishop Paul S. Morton. Dr. Dillon has also endeavored in missionary work with Greenforest Community Baptist Church, in 1997, 1998 and 1999, in which she provided dental service to the people in Haiti and Jamaica. Dr. Dillon is the proud owner of the building that houses her practice and the adjacent building at 900 N. Hairston Rd. She desires to create a medical complex that would house other medical professionals offering even more services in the Stone Mountain area. In addition to previously mentioned credits, Dr. Dillon is the mother of a 27-year-old son and a 9 year old daughter. She was named “Thursday Morning Mom” from the Tom Joyner Morning Show in May of 1999. With a personal approach to dentistry and a genuine concern for patients and the community in general, Dr. Dillon is determined to take a proactive approach in becoming involved with the health and well being of the community. When asked what is her secret to her success? She responds: “My faith in God, through whom all things are possible for those that love him; and my children are my motivation to do well.”

From page 26 In the wake of the crisis, many airports abroad have restricted or banned travel from Liberia, Sierra Leon and Guinea, while others are screening travelers arriving from those countries for high temperatures. The U.S., however, has not altered its travel warnings. Authorities are warning against non-essential travel to West Africa and U.S. airports are denying boarding to passengers who exhibit high fevers and symptoms of serious illnesses. According to the CDC, a U.S. Department of Transportation rule permits airlines to deny boarding to air travelers with serious contagious diseases that could spread during flight. Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC, said Duncan’s travel to the U.S. did not pose a threat because he had no symptoms at the time. People infected with Ebola are not contagious until they begin showing symptoms, which may take from two to 21 days after exposure, Frieden said. But authorities are concerned that Duncan may have come into contact with dozens of people after he arrived and began exhibiting signs of illness a few days later. Duncan had mixed freely for two full days while showing symptoms of the virus, the Associated Press reported. Officials are monitoring several people who had close contact with Duncan, including five of Duncan’s family members. Four health care workers who had direct exposure to him after he began showing signs of illness also are being monitored. Although Ebola is highly contagious, it is not airborne. Officials say it can only be spread through contact with bodily fluids such as saliva, blood, semen or vomit. Ebola symptoms include sudden fever, fatigue, headache and vomiting. Authorities are stepping up
efforts to ensure hospital workers and others who may come into contact with sick people are being careful, alert and that they ask about the person’s travel history. “The initial symptoms of Ebola are often non-specific ... they are symptoms that may be associated with many other conditions,” Frieden said during a news conference. “That’s why we have encouraged all emergency department physicians to take a history of travel within the last 21 days.” Meanwhile, officials in the metro Atlanta area are putting
the word out that a man arrested for DUI and other traffic charges was not infected with Ebola. The man tested negative for Ebola on Oct. 3, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Cobb County Jail. He was tested because he displayed flulike symptoms and told officers he recently visited Africa. He was placed in isolation at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and tested by the CDC. Jail areas where the man was in contact with were sanitized twice, according to Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren.

orthern Henry County is on track for a transformation that will bring jobs, opportunities and medical resources to Ellenwood, including continued progress on the Fairview Medical Center project and the Fairview Road Widening Project. These projects are designed to improve access to healthcare, stimulate commerce in the area and reduce commute times for citizens. Northern Henry County is currently underserved by the medical community. There are no hospitals, full service urgent care centers or multi-specialty ambulatory surgery centers in
Northern Henry County forcing residents to travel south to Henry-Piedmont, north to South Fulton or east to Dekalb-Hillandale hospitals. Furthermore, the supply of physicians is not meeting the current demand of residents in the area. An analysis of Northern Henry County showed that there are 435 too few physicians to adequately service the population, with the most severe shortages in pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice and general surgery. The Fairview Medical Center will help to improve access to these services and more. Nidus Development is moving forward with

A MAMMOGRAM HELPED SAVE LONNY’S LIFE.
10.0 in.
KAISER PERMANENTE HAS THE HIGHEST BREAST CANCER SCREENING RATE IN GEORGIA.* During a 2009 mammogram, a lab technician found a small calcification of cells. After a biopsy, Lonny Catalan discovered she had breast cancer. Her first thought was of her son, Tylon. Her second was, ”I will not let this beat me.” Fortunately, Lonny’s cancer was diagnosed at an early, treatable stage. One of the benefits of our unique system is how we use advanced technology to empower care teams to identify members overdue for important screenings. The result can be quicker diagnosis, and for Lonny, it meant fast access to a focused team of doctors and nurses who successfully brought her through surgery, treatment, and follow-up care. Why does Kaiser Permanente Georgia have the highest mammogram screening rate in the state?* For women like Lonny. And sons like Tylon.
