IRAQ: Humanitarian Dashboard (January to December 2017) OVERVIEW The pace and scale of displacement have made the Iraq crisis one of the largest and most volatile in the world. Although large scale fighting ended in 2017, affected populations remained in critical need of humanitarian assistance. The military operation to retake Mosul, ending in July 2017, was the longest urban battle since World War II. One million civilians were safely evacuated from the city in the largest managed evacuation from a combat zone in modern history. Humanitarians were on the frontlines and in emergency camps throughout to ensure civilians were evacuated safely and providing life-saving assistance to the 1.7 million people who either fled or stayed in their homes. During 2017, as Iraqi security forces retook major cities and districts in Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Anbar and Ninewa governorates, nearly five million civilians became accessible for humanitarian assistance. At the outset of 2017, humanitarian partners estimated that 11 million Iraqis would require some form of humanitarian assistance. Despite a difficult and volatile operating environment, 158* humanitarian organizations reached about 8** million people with some form of humanitarian assistance across Iraq during 2017. The Humanitarian Response Plan received 92 per cent, or US$907 million of the $985 million requested.

*Operaonal partners who provided assistance out of 158 partners parcipang in the HRP planning **7.9 million people have been reached by the Health Cluster, which has the highest coverage in absolute terms. While there is a significant overlap in the number of people receiving services across sectors, the number of people reached with assistance in other clusters does not correlate exactly with this figure. The total number of people reached might thus be higher than 7.8 million. Creation date: 5 March 2017 Source: 1. Clusters, fts.unocha.org
