ALCO Announces Approval to Establish Student Chapter of Association of Latino Professionals For America Adult Learning Center Osceola (ALCO) has been officially approved by ALPFA Corporate Headquarters to establish a local student chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA). ALPFA is a nationally-recognized professional organization with over 22,000 members. ALCO is the first and only non-traditional adult learning center recognized as an official ALPFA educational chapter. This is groundbreaking as it sets the precedent for other educational and alternative educational entities throughout the nation to organize chapters and become ALPFA organizations. ALCO is now one of over 120 student chapters, and joins the University of Central Florida, DeVry University, University of Phoenix, and Rollins College as representatives in the Central Florida region. ALPFA offers student members training and development opportunities, leadership practice, scholarship opportunities, and exposure to networking. The ALCO ALPFA chapter will be organizing a variety of training and development events for students, while also engaging in professional activities within the community and participating in regional and national ALPFA training events. ALCO's first ALPFA-sponsored event took place on Thursday, December 11. The "Dress for Success" fashion show and training workshop was developed to help ALCO's adult students understand how to dress professionally for a job interview. The workshop included an informative presentation and a runway-style fashion show that showcased a variety of professional and business casual dress options. On Saturday, January 31, ALCO ALPFA students will participate in the Southeast Region Student Symposium that will be held at the UCF College of Hospitality Management in Orlando. Students will participate in educational workshops, a networking reception, mentoring luncheon, and a career fair. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Intuit Software, Inc., ALCO ALPFA students will be attending this leadership development event at no cost.
