Oklava: The Cookbook Turkish-Cypriot dishes with a modern twist Selin Kiazim With influences from the Mediterranean, Southern Europe and the Middle East, TurkishCypriot food offers incredible flavour combinations unique to its region. Oklava: The Cookbook celebrates the culinary delights of this area in a way no cookbook has done before.

‘Keep an eye out for Selin Kiazim, because she is going places, in every conceivable way’

Oklava translates simply as ‘rolling pin’. For Selin Kiazim, this word conjures up memories of her Turkish-Cypriot grandmother: a rolling pin was never far from her hands, which meant a delicious treat was imminent. The same can be said for this book. These sensational recipes will take you on a journey from home-cooked meals and summers spent in North Cyprus to an exciting interpretation of modern Turkish-Cypriot cooking in London. Bring the Oklava experience into your home with Turkish delights such as Pistachio-crusted Banana & Tahini French Toast with Orange Blossom Syrup & Smoked Streaky Bacon; Grilled Quails with Palm Sugar, Sumac & Oregano Glaze; Courgette, Feta & Mint Fritters; Crispy Pomegranate-Glazed Lamb Breast with Yoghurt; Chilli-Roast Cauliflower; and Chocolate, Prune & Cardamom Delice.

Selin Kiazim

developed her love of cooking at an early age, and her food takes inspiration from her Turkish-Cypriot heritage, focused around communal eating. Selin has worked for acclaimed chef Peter Gordon at The Providores in London Marylebone, later becoming head chef at Kopapa, before taking up residency at Trip Kitchen. She opened Oklava with her business partner Laura Christie in London’s Shoreditch in November 2015.

Adventures of a Terribly Greedy Girl Kay Plunkett-Hogge

A moving, funny, food-based memoir (with recipes) set in Bangkok, London, LA and New York, this book celebrates a life lived entirely unplanned. With a dry martini in hand, Kay Plunkett-Hogge looks back at the happy accidents, regrettable errors and unexpected opportunities that led to a career as a food and drink writer, via stints in the worlds of fashion and film. It is a celebration of a tumbling through life, of mistakes and opportunities laid bare. As you read, Kay shares 25 delicious recipes she discovered along the way, from her grandmother’s Apple Crumble to Sashimi with Thai Salsa Verde. Chapters include 10 Things I Learnt in New York, The Comfort of a Roast Chicken and What Would Martha Do? Joyful, witty and occasionally indiscreet, Adventures of A Terribly Greedy Girl is about the benefits of letting your curiosity trump your good sense.

Zoe Adjonyoh It’s Ghana be tasty! Bringing African food to the masses ‘I believe we are on the cusp of an African food revolution. There is a longing to try something that is actually new, not just re-spun, and African cuisines are filling that gap. It’s the last continent of relatively unexplored food in the mainstream domain. For too long Africans have kept this incredible food a greedy secret.’ – Zoe Adjonyoh From Pan-roasted Cod with Grains of Paradise and Nkruma (Okra) Tempura to Coconut & Cassava Cake and Cubeb Spiced Shortbread, Ghanaian food is always fun, always relaxed and always tasty! You’ll no doubt be surprised and delighted at the relative ease of cooking most of these fabulous dishes. Most of the ingredients are easy to come by at supermarkets or local shops, and the recipes are super flexible - you can take the basic principles and adapt them easily to what you have available in your cupboard or fridge.

Kara Rosen

PLENISH Cleanse founder Kara Rosen spent a decade flying between New York and LA, jetlagged, overindulged and exhausted from a hectic work schedule. Suffering from an on-going battle with strep throat, and failing antibiotics, Kara turned to a holistic nutritionist who suggested a 5-day juice cleanse. That cleanse turned into a love for a new lifestyle and Kara started to turn regularly to cold-pressed juices for a detox. After receiving fabulous feedback from friends and family, PLENISH was born to make organic, raw, cold-pressed juices available to everyone.

A portrait of the survivors of the Holocaust

P U BL I S H E R S AWA R D 2 014

Harry Borden Award-winning photographer Harry Borden brings together powerful and moving portraits of Holocaust survivors, with captions in their own words.

Foreword by Man Booker-prize-winning author, Howard Jacobson.

Over the course of five years, acclaimed photographer Harry Borden has travelled the globe photographing survivors of the Holocaust. The people featured vary in age, gender and nationality, but are all tied together by their experience and survival of one of the darkest moments in human history. Each photograph is accompanied by a handwritten note from the sitter, ranging from poems, to memories, to hopes for the future, creating a strong sense of intimacy between sitter and reader. This intimacy is amplified by the home settings of many of the photographs, along with the photographer’s use of available light at each scene. At the end of the book is a section providing more information about the person in each portrait, and about how and what they survived, together with the historical context of the events they lived through. Thought-provoking and touching, this book conveys the dignity and humanity of each subject’s character. Survivor is a unique and powerful testimony of what it is to live with memories of the Holocaust.

Harry Borden

is one of the most celebrated portrait photographers working today. His pictures have featured on the covers of the world’s leading magazines, including The New Yorker, Time, and Vogue. Harry has won prizes at the World Press Photo awards (1997 and 1999) and was a judge in the contest in 2010 and 2011. In June 2005 he was awarded a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London; the gallery now has more than 100 examples of Harry’s work in its permanent collection. In 2014, Harry was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society.

Complete Photography Understand cameras to take, edit and share better photos Chris Gatcum Finally a fresh, new guide to photography that covers everything. From basic techniques to digital processing, Complete Photography includes illustrated master-classes from famous professionals. There are some books on photography which have been doing the rounds for years, getting minor updates and tweaks, while other guides remain unchanged for decades. In that time, photography has undergone two revolutions (digital and social), and settled down to the point where people are even experimenting with film for specific purposes. It’s time for a book on photography written from the ground up for modern readers. This is that book. Complete Photography covers everything to do with photography and can be picked up by a complete beginner or anyone looking to learn more, addressing photography from the view-point of the photograph, rather than beginning with 100 pages showing cameras you, as a reader, don’t own and can’t possibly afford. Packed with the work of one of the biggest authors in the business’ inspirational photographers, tips and experience, Complete Photography is a fool-proof guide to the world’s most popular hobby.
