THE PROJECT:
THE EARTH IS OUR LITTLE GREEN HOUSE multilateral project COMENIUS 2009-2011
Discover water with your new pet goldfish Children manual with activities, tests and experiments
2
Introduction: For fish, water is their environment. It surrounds them. The quality water is absolutely essential for their well-being. Without it, the fish will die. A little pet goldfish help you to discover :
ALL ABOUT WATER,
THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER IN LIFE
CONSERVATION & PROTECTION OF WATER
With:
activities, tests and experiments
Hello, My name is Nemo. I’m a little fish and I live in the sea. Together we will discover water.
3
Water is continually moving around, through, and above the Earth. Observe terrestrial globe, PAINT AND COLOR
4
Liquid water is found in many places: lake, river, stream, ocean, brook, puddle etc
Search newspaper and magazine images of water (rivers, seas and lakes,...) CUT AND PASTE THEME.
5
Water is a miracle liquid, it is essential for all living things. Plants, animals, and other life forms live in the rivers, in the sea, in the lakes and in the oceans. Watch videos of under water ocean life, PAINT WATER, DRAW , COLOUR, CUT AND PASTE THE PICTURES OF ANIMALS THAT LIVE
6
Water is very important for your life. You need water to drink, to wash your hands, to cook, to water plants and many other things...
PASTE OR DRAW A PICTURE OF YOUR DAILY USE OF WATER...
7
PURE WATER IS TASTELESS, ODORLESS AND COLORLESS...
Explore the water with the five senses : Paste a photo of your exploration
Draw a picture of your exploration
8
Water is a universal solvent: many substances dissolve in it.
Mix water and food colouring or tempera paint etc..
...COLOUR THE TRIANGLES WITH COLOURS THAT YOU USED
9
Many substances dissolve in water but not all substances are watersoluble.
Fill two clear jars with water. Take two different substances like sugar and oil‌ Which will dissolve, and which will not? Test each item in the water and
RELATES THE IMAGES SEQUENTIALLY ORDERED.
10
Water is absorbed by some materials as the sponge........
Immerge in a cup of water pieces of cotton, plastic, wool, tin foil, etc. . Which materials absorb water and which do not? PASTE MATERIALS:
11
In the water ….some things float and some things sink.
Place a bunch of items on the floor. These items should be those that will be okay if they get wet, like blocks (plastic or wood) rubber toys, a pencil, a rock etc.
CUT OUT PICTURES OF ITEMS AND PASTE THEM IN THE TANK WHERE THEY BELIEVE THEY WOULD FALL. PASTE ITEMS THAT SINK AT THE BOTTOM, AND ITEMS THAT FLOAT AT THE TOP.
12
You can measure water! How many cups of water are in a little bottle of water? How many little cups ? COLOUR THE CUPS OF WATER (THE CORRESPONDING NUMBER).
13
Water on Earth is always changing. Its repeating changes make a cycle. As water goes through its cycle, it can be a solid (ice)…. Place water in a plastic ice tray and place it in the freezer. Every half hour take it out to inspect the ice. DRAW A PICTURE (OR PASTE A PHOTO) OF YOUR EXPERIMENT OR DRAW ABOUT IT.
Water cycle — solidification: Snow is a type of precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice
14
Water on Earth is always changing and can be a gas (water vapour).
Obtain a clear plastic glass, place some water in . Mark the water level with a permanent marker. Place it in a sunny window Observing the glasses for a week .... where is the water going?
DRAW THE PICTURE OF THE GLASS...
Water cycle — evaporation: The sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air
15
Water vapour and ice can change to become water.
Obtain a jars and fill it with ice cold water . Observe the results and DRAW A PICTURE
Water cycle — condensation Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid,
16
Water moves in a cycle:
The sea water is heated by the sun,
the water evaporates and becomes condensation which rises. Upon meeting with the cold air, the condensation thickens and is transformed back into drops of water, which become a cloud. Under the influence of the cold, the small drops of water become larger and heavier drops, and then they fall to the ground in the form of rain, snow or hail. This water flows into the sea via streams, or flows via underground water and from the high ground. And then the cycle begins all over again.
Colour the different parts of the water cycle.
Water cycle — precipitation: Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.
17
EVERYTHING ON EARTH DEPENDS ON WATER, MY LIFE, YOUR LIFE.
Observe the image , comment and verbalize it , invents a story.

Reduce your daily use Save Our Water

Pure water is tasteless, odourless and colourless. Water can occur in three states:
Without water, the Earth would look like the moon. All living things need water to live.
About 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water
Water on Earth today has been here for millions of years. Because of the water cycle, water moves from the earth to the air to the earth again. It changes from solid to liquid to gas, over and over again.
