The Stuck in the 90s By Kaitey Davis
The 90s was a rise of multiculturalism. it had a huge rise in pop cultures such as hip hop and grunge which spread across the world to the young people of this decade which influenced the fashion in the 90s. They had extreme advances in technology throughout the 90s such as television cable, the world wide web, gene therapy, pagers, and Nokias. Some new technology was even put into toys for the children of this decade. the big news of the time were the Rodney King verdict and riots, the OJ Simpson trial, and when Newt Gingrich redefined the American right. The 90s was considered a very influential with the fashion and colors of the decade.
Back In My Day
Technology has started to become a popular topic in the 80s. Technology like the VCR has be catching on slowly and can be found in almost every house hold. The 90s will soon be upgrading the VCR and making so much more new technology to make everyday things so much easier and maybe even technology just for fun like toys or a game. Cable TV also started to catch on in the 80s. People of the 80s started to ditch black and white TV’s and colored TV’s were introduced. This will impact the 90s in so many different ways more color will start to be introduced in to everything. Music in the 80s was mostly still on vinyl and cassette tape with compact disk slowly coming in but more expensive. The Walkman started to gain popularity giving people the ability to walk around and listen to music for the first time. the Walkman will get updated into something even better and so much new forms of music will begin to appear on both TV and other things that music will be able to be played on. The people of the 90s will experience a huge change in technology.

During the latter half of the 80s, there was a quiet but large change in public attitudes about the importance of the environment. This shift of thinking will continue into the 90s and create a better future for the environment. There will be multiple acts to keep the environment nice and cleaned up. Many of the top climate science journals began in the late 80s and it was within that time that environmental research started to update. Which will lead to the updated in the environment by the end of the 90s and we will learn more about environmental science. Serious air and water pollution persisted throughout the 80s which will proceed to slowly get worst throughout the 90s but the people of the 90s era will be able to help to fix these issues to make the earth a better place to live on. Acid rain was one of the biggest problems during the 80s. It was when there was acid deposition in streams and rivers through the rain and snow making those waters not habitable for many animals. The 90s will try and fix this and emissions will drop significantly but the problem will still be around.

The 80s was a great decade to grow up in. there were so many new forms of music, games and, shows. August 1st, 1981 MTV was officially released and it was meant to broadcasted music twenty-four hours a day. This will make music in the 90s even more major and popular to young teens. The music videos in the 80s started to gain popularity too. Michael Jackson and Madonna influenced a lot of the dancing of that time. They were referred to as the king and queen of pop. Which will carry on into the 90s with even more new forms of music and dancing with every artist making music videos for their songs. The start of films and TV also started to gain popularity with the American youth of the 80s. A very popular actor of the 80s was tom cruise he was first seen in Endless Love in 1981 and has been adored ever since for his good looks. The 90s will have so many new updated TV shows and movies. prince brought new conversations about gender and fashion wearing heels and laced gloves when on stage. There will be more topics over gender and fashion throughout the 90s.

The fashion in the 80s was full of color women’s street-wear worn in the 80s included ripped jeans, leotards, tights, sweatpants, and tracksuits. Athletic accessories were a huge trend in the early 80s. This will lead to some of the same types of styles in the 90s. Since movies and TV became such a big thing in the 80s especially since it went from black and white to color. Some styles in the 90s will be influenced by some movies and TV shows to. Hairstyles in the 80s included the mullet, tall Mohawk hair styles, Jheri curls, and flattops, which became popular styles for the boys. The women hairstyles were large hair-dos, puffed-up styles, permanent waves, and softer cuts throughout this decade. 90s hairstyles might still include some old looks but will be including some more tamed straighten looks. Pastels were also a big part of the 80s these were the springy easter like colors that before the 80s were only seen once a year. The most popular colors were pink, blue, yellow, and green. Many of these 80s trends will continue into the 90s pretty much the same with added colors and patterns that will be inspired by pop art.
