MESSAGE TO MEMBERS TO SHARE WITH AGENCIES Dear member, The launch of the new International Student Program (ISP) regulations is fast approaching and Languages Canada members have received designation in all provinces except for Quebec. As the last days before launch approach, here are some facts you can share with your staff and partners:
First of all, the new regulations will make it easier and faster to obtain study permits.
The list of designated institutions should be posted on the CIC website on June 1. We will send you the link when we have it. This is a new process for everyone – institutions, provincial governments, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) – so expect a few glitches. Unfortunately, due to elections and a new government, the Quebec government has not completed their end of the designation process and at this time no private sector schools in Quebec have been designated. Languages Canada and our Quebec members are working hard to resolve this issue and hope to have a lastminute solution reached in the next few days. Students going to Quebec may still come through a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for up to six months and change to a Study Permit while they are in Canada. The situation of non-designation in Quebec will be resolved well before their TRP’s expire. In short, apart from Quebec, which we hope will be resolved shortly, we are happy to share that not only is Canada open to continue receiving students, but we are also confident that the new regulations will result in better student protection and within the next six to nine months in improved visa processing times and acceptance rates.
Sincerely,
Gonzalo Peralta Executive Director Languages Canada
