PROFECIONAL EXPERIENCE

A COMPLEX OF 5 BUILDINGS LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC CENTER OF OAXACA CITY, WHERE I PARTICIPATED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF 3 OUT OF THE 5 BUILDINGS.

BIOCONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP ROOTS STUDIO

I participated as part of the organizing team in this bioconstruction workshop, where different techniques of building with earth were taught, such as adobe, rammed earth, and wattle and daub. Additionally, participants learned how to build an oven, create Catalan vaults, and make 100% sustainable paint using natural products. The workshop featured renowned individuals such as Dr. Luis Fernando Guerrero Vaca, Architect Alfonso Luna, and members of the Roots team.

An old house in the historic center was restored and redesigned to become a hotel. I was involved in the construction and some finishing details of the project.

CATEDRA ORANGE

A REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT CHAIR TAUGHT BY THE ORANGE GROUP, WHERE THE ENTIRE REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT SCHEME IS TAUGHT AND WORKED ON DURING ONE SEMESTER. THREE PROJECTS ARE DEVELOPED, STARTING FROM MARKET STUDY AND LAND EVALUATION, ALL THE WAY TO SALES.

UNNAMED HOTEL OAXACA ROOTS STUDIO

CZIMATLAN LA RAYA CHAPEL, OAXACA ROOTS STUDIO

IN THIS PROJECT, I PARTICIPATED IN THE DESIGN AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE COMMUNITY, ALONGSIDE THE ROOTS TEAM. THE PROJECT AIMS TO BE A CATALYST IN THE VILLAGE, CREATING A LARGE ESPLANADE, A SERIES OF WORKSHOP SPACES, AND THE REMODELING OF THE MAIN STREETS. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE ABLE TO COLLABORATE WITH THE HARP FOUNDATION, THROUGH WHICH WE PLANTED OVER 3500 TREES BOTH IN THE HILLS AND IN THE VILLAGE.

HOTEL LOCATED IN SAN FELIPE DEL AGUA, OAXACA ROOTS STUDIO

I participated in the construction team and finishing details of this project, where a luxury space was developed with an unparalleled view of the city of Oaxaca.

CONVENT HOTEL DLS.ARQUITECTURA

The design focused on the remodeling of a former convent in the historic center of Oaxaca city to transform it into a hotel. The hotel features approximately 8 suites, a reception patio protected by a latticework, and an underground bar.

MATEO RULE TOGNO

A studio for the Reyes family, where the idea emerged from the location, surrounded by trees and enjoying shade throughout the day. The concept was to avoid placing windows and instead create a glass roof, allowing for ventilation through openings in the crown of the walls.

The paddle club was established in phases, starting with 5 courts, a cafeteria, bathrooms, and a parking lot for 20 cars. Later on, the number of courts was expanded to a total of 9. The first 5 courts were then covered, and the remaining 4 courts will be covered in the final phase. Currently they are in the phase of roofing the first courts.

PADLE CLUB OAXACA "PUNTO DE ORO" MATEO RULE TOGNO

CABINS IN LATUVI, IN THE OAXACAN SIERRA NORTE MATEO RULE TOGNO

A complex consisting of 8 cabins of two different types: two-bedroom cabins and one-bedroom cabins. The cabins are designed to be built using local materials, and vernacular strategies are employed to enhance their comfort.

HUATULCO HOUSE MATEO RULE TOGNO

A house located in one of the bays of Huatulco, with an east-facing view where the sunrise is used to create a certain sense of excitement. Additionally, the house is partially underground and constructed using local materials and techniques to achieve comfort within the interior.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

PROFESOR: ARQ. RIGOBERTO ALMAGUER PROYECTOS INTEGRADORES I

Intervention project for the Alfa Planetarium located in San Pedro Garza NL, at the intersection of Roberto Garza Sada and Gómez Morín streets. This project incorporated the land of the corporate headquarters, creating a development that acknowledges the historical value and precedents set by both sites. The project aimed to establish new precedents that are worthy of their historical significance.

COLABORATION ARQ. CARLOS GUZMAN

The project is structured in phases, starting with the new Alfa corporate headquarters, an internationally-focused Business School, and the intervention of the existing building, which is transformed into a sensory art museum. It is complemented by a school of arts and a multi-purpose theater. The connection of these buildings to the main axis is facilitated by a parasol-like structure that serves as circulation within them. At the top, this structure features a double façade with a red background, creating a visual landmark that reflects the planetarium to pedestrians along the main axis.

The museum is concealed underground, with the entrance hall, restrooms, service area, and administration located on the first basement level. The structure of the museum's exhibition rooms emerges on the second basement level, separate from the existing envelope of the planetarium. This structure has its own envelope, which serves as a staircase and features a graceful arrangement of horizontally and vertically placed wooden piles, creating an immersive experience.

Additionally, the second basement level includes a recessed room, which serves as the only permanent exhibition room and aims to awaken the senses through the use of visuals, smells, sounds, and textures.

The third floor features a terrace that is integrated with a parasol, connecting the museum with the school. The following three floors serve as exhibition rooms, and the structure concludes with a restaurant protected and isolated by a cover to mitigate noise and odors.

The current envelope of the planetarium is enclosed with a roof that allows natural light to enter, facing the north.

PROFESOR: ARQ. AGUSTIN LANDA, ARQ. ROBERTO ROMERO

Located in the heart of Monterrey, on the Santa Lucía promenade, the 39th studio worked on a proposal for an urban university campus that responded to both the needs and urban connection between the different parts, namely the Macro Plaza and Fundidora Park. It served as a key axis in the articulation of the city center. As part of the final project for the 39th studio, I individually worked on the different typologies of this campus, with the research laboratory being my specific responsibility within this complex.

The campus, being a central axis of articulation in the city, effectively delineates spaces by understanding the different typologies between public and private areas. The more public typologies, such as the rectorate, library, student center, and multimodal station, are positioned at the central axis within the campus. On the other hand, the research center operates in a more private manner, situated between the hospital, medical school, and sports center. It plays a crucial role in connecting these entities while also maintaining a sense of responsibility towards the street, integrating itself into the city and respecting its identity and integrity.

The building responds passively between its parts. On one hand, the main wing contains the central space with private programming, such as classrooms. Additionally, the ground floor corners allow connection with the street, forming part of it through various commercial typologies. The upper levels of these corners serve as collective work areas, ranging from private rooms to shared workspaces. The main wing's upper levels also feature four residential units, providing accommodation for visiting researchers.

The entrance hall is a fundamental part of the project, featuring a triple-height space crowned by a series of sawtooth skylights. This arrangement allows for a play of light with the movement of the sun towards the south. The research center has a complex yet straightforward program. On one hand, there are laboratories, acting as a connection to the medical school. On the other hand, there is an auditorium and multipurpose center, serving as a mediator with the sports center. The building is carefully planned with a clear separation of its programmatic parts, while still maintaining a cohesive spatial experience.

Individual final project of the "Cátedra Blanca 40," where the current Prado neighborhood was established and intervened according to the master plan. The neighborhood not only includes the monumental bullring of Monterrey but also a series of urban attractions such as a school, church, park, and a location that becomes interesting with the relocation of industry to the outskirts.

In the master plan, a series of axes were established, emphasizing the importance of the street and seeking connection between the different parts. The focus was on creating a human-centered urbanization through spatial connectivity. The use of block corners along the park axis provided dual functionality, while also greening the neighborhood through the planting of a significant and diverse number of native trees.

Once the master plan and the smaller scale within the park axis were established, the intervention in the monumental bullring followed the pre-established axes. The volumetrics of this intervention are a response to those axes, maintaining their principles and enriching them.

Once the volumetrics are established, in response to the axes of the master plan, the programmatic part forms a non-zero-sum game, adding value to it and using it to enhance itself.

Respecting part of the existing structure and the historical value imbued in the site, the round shape is maintained to pay homage to the bullring. The three points of interest have dimensions related to it and also serve as spaces for transit, connectivity, and interaction.

The shopping center is located on the lower levels of the bullring plaza, with the second level accommodating office spaces that, like the commercial area, harmoniously coexist with the hotel on the third floor. These points, along with the master plan, establish a connection that is more compositional than functional. The hotel is designed in a stepped manner, respecting the pre-established arrangement, and extends up to the 6th level.

The convention center consists of two halls on the ground floor, with connections between the different parts - the shopping center, theater, and neighborhood. The second floor provides flexible space, allowing for the capacity of one, two, or four halls.

The theater serves as an extension of the convention center, but defends its integrity and typology, thus offering versatility in its use.

Final project in pairs during the third semester in the subject of Project III, where the design of the Experience 21 building on the Tec campus was developed.

STRUCTURE

Individual project for the subject of Project 2, container residences in the Tec district. It consists of 11 floors with a total of 39 apartments and 6 penthouses. The project is based on an octagonal structural core that supports and sustains the containers.

PROFESOR: ARQ. DANIEL MARTINEZ PROYECTOS II

Located in the Tec district of Monterrey, in close proximity to the university, the proposal emerges from the Japanese metabolist movement and living architecture. Thus, everything is prefabricated except for the structural core, allowing customized containers to fit within the three-dimensionality of space.

Sixth-semester project where an old lumberyard near downtown Monterrey was remodeled and transformed into a hostel, focusing on preserving the essence of the building and thus creating a sense of community.

PROFESOR: ARQ. RAUL BADIA PROYECTOS IV

Sixth-semester project where a community center was developed within the Tec district, but focused on the community. This development includes various recreational and cultural activities, as it features sports courts, event halls, a coworking area, and aims for the conscious interaction of the community with its green areas.

Tower 2080, located in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, next to Rufino

Tamayo, stems from the understanding of the latter, thus creating a fusion with it on its lower floors.

The building emerges as a response to a micro city, understanding that it is a product of the people who inhabit it. Thus, the design is based on the urban sprawl. In the design process, the population density within the urban sprawl was taken as a basis of

The city of Monterrey, delineating each municipality and its density, was divided into three levels: low, medium, and high density. Due to its irregularity, we proceeded to its abstraction through simplification. Different groups of towers with varying heights were established, with Monterrey as the center. With the towers defined, the horizontal break of the city was created through vertical connections.

The ensemble is based on the understanding of the park, which is why its roadways are fundamentally pedestrian, blocking vehicular entrances exclusively for service or emergency purposes.

The wind turbines are strategically located in the separations along the connections of lower levels, based on the understanding of the prevailing winds coming from the east, thus achieving greater energy benefits.

The complex has a system of solar panels mounted on rails that follow the sun's path throughout the day to maximize energy benefits. They are primarily located on the west side of the ensemble, also functioning as sunshades for protection during critical hours of sunlight.

The project features a water mirror with a view of Cerro de la Silla, emphasizing its importance and taking advantage of the eastward wind to refresh the project.

Connection with Rufino Tamayo as the project becomes part of it, understanding and enriching the park.
