President’s Welcome It is with enormous pleasure that I can welcome everyone taking part in the 2016 OFC Nations Cup to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Bringing this event to Papua New Guinea is something we have been working towards for some time and I am incredibly proud to not only be sharing the sights and sounds of our nation with the Oceania football family, but also introducing the people of Papua New Guinea to the best footballers our region has to offer. The OFC Nations Cup is the most prestigous event in the Oceania fotoball calendar. I would like to acknowledge the Papua New Guinea Football Association for their contribution to hosting this event, as well as the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC). The two bodies have been responsible for ensuring the logistics for the sucessful running of this tournament are in place. I would like to thank our OFC Partners, and the sponsors of this event, Telikom PNG, iRENA, TruTru Wara, Dream Inn and NCDC, without whom this tournament would not be possible. We saw with the XV Pacific Games that football is a hugely popular sport in Papua New Guiena and bringing the OFC Nations Cup to its capital will only help to raise the profile of this growing game. Sir John Guise Stadium will surely come alive as the eight countries fight to keep their 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ hopes alive. Although the real prize for this event will be reserved for the winner, who will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the top six sides will go on to contest stage three of World Cup qualifying.
Tahiti are the defending champions, making global headlines when they became the first nation outside of New Zealand or Australia to earn the regional title. OFC will provide extensive coverage throughout the tournametn and we also welcome members of the media - many of whom have travelled to Port Moresby from other parts of the Pacific and further afield - to share the remarkable stories of this event with the fans. Good luck to all the teams involved, I trust that all matches will be played in the spirit of fair play - and with the enjoyment that representing your country brings. Yours in football,
David Chung PNGFA President OFC President FIFA Vice-President
Business Papua New Guinea
Port Moresby Papua New Guinea is known as the land of a million journeys and a thousand languages.
Located in the Southern Provincial Region is Port Moresby, the capital city and gateway to all the sights, sounds, adventures and destinations in Papua New Guinea.
Welcome to Port Moresby
Papua New Guinea is the largest and most populous Melanesian country in Oceania. The most recent census was held in 2010 and had the nation’s offical population figures standing at six million, however predications are that six years later that number may have expanded to around 10 million.
Renowned for its amazing diversity both geographically and culturally, Papua New Guinea is made up of 22 provinces which are grouped into four provincial regions; Momase, the New Guinea Islands, the Highlands and Southern.
Port Moresby became the capital when the Territory of Papua and New Guinea was formed in 1945, and remaned the capital at independence in 1975. Home to over 250,000 inhabitants, the capital is a hub of government and commerical activity. This has created a melting pot of various ethnic groups and communities within the city limits as Government Haus and most international agencies are located here. Port Moresby is more than just a business hub however. Nestled right in the heart of the city is the country’s leading botanial and zoological park and gardens the Port Moresby Nature Park, showcasing Papua New Guinea’s unique flora and fauna. Just outside Port Moresby along the Sogeri Plateau is the gateway to the famous Kokoda trail, a major attraction for international adventurers from across the globe.
The OFC CupCup The OFCNations Nations
The quadrienniel OFC Nations Cup is the region’s premier international football competition which sees eight Oceania nations vie for the right to represent OFC at the FIFA Confederations Cup. The prestigious event also offers one of the most impressive trophies in the OFC cabinet. Measuring at 55cm high, the trophy took 65 hours to complete and was created entirely from silver plate by the Thomas Lyte team of expert silversmiths. The stunning tophy consists of a sphere upon which a map of Oceania is engraved - and three legs, which each have a different motif pattern reflecting the Melanesian, Polynesian and Maori cultures which make up the region. The plinth is made from mahogany and is stained to a rich dark finish. The logos of all 11 OFC Member Associations are engraved on the top band of the plinth, while the bottom features the OFC logo and a scroll of past Nations Cup winners.
FIFA Confederations Cup The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held in Russia. Like the OFC Nations Cup, the FIFA Confederations Cup is held every four years and is contested by the holders of each of the six FIFA Confederation championships - UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC and OFC. Joining them is the current FIFA World Cup holder Germany and the host nation of Russia, bringing the number of teams up to eight.

Fiji
Fiji have been going from one high to another of late, qualifying for their first FIFA tournament - the FIFA U-20 World Cup - and more recently the Rio Olympic Games. Both of those were youth tournaments and now it is Fiji’s chance to prove themselves at senior level. In 2012 Fiji put on a decent display earning two draws and going down just 1-0 against New Zealand. It wasn’t enough to put them through to the semi-finals, but with a new coach at the helm and a professional in the ranks Fiji will be out to improve that record. Frank Farina has more than proven himself as a former player and coach for the Socceroos, he knows the importance of this competition. The same goes for Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna who is only too aware of where this competition sits on the global stage. The side is littered with young starts like Iosefo Verevou, Jale Dreloa and Setareki Hughes who will be holding their own alongside the team’s veterans. 1 Simionie TAMANISAU GK

New Caledonia
After knocking out the favourites in 2012 New Caledonia were just one match away from securing an historic title. That honour eventually went to Tahiti and it’s not something the Caledonian side have forgotten. Time has seen the retirement of several key members of that 2012 squad, and coach Thierry Sardo has been able to bring in some new blood. The Bearunes and Wakanamunes bring talent and experience, and the return of Jean Philippe Saiko, César Zeoula and Judikael Ixoee from France will have a huge influence, as will the inclusion of the domestic league’s leading scorer Bertrand Kai. New Caledonia have been sturdy on the regional stage across all levels with their latest triumph the successful defence of their Pacific Games gold. With two second-place finshes in a row at the Nations Cup, this determined side is aiming to go one better this year. 1

New Zealand
The All Whites have been building up to this event ever since Anthony Hudson was appointed to coach the side. While international matches have been few and far between, when the team has played they’ve managed to secure some decent results against high-ranking sides. The likes of captain Chris Wood, Michael McGlinchey, Marco Rojas and Michael Boxall will remember all too clearly the previous edition of the OFC Nations Cup in Honiara. There’s also a contingent of players who know the conditions well following the Olympic qualifiers in Port Moresby last year.

Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea’s third place finish at the XV Pacific Games on home soil was the first sign that this is a team on the rise. As one of the most active national sides in recent years PNG have been building up to this competition for some time and with a new coach, Flemming Serritslev, at the helm they are in good hands. Experienced campaigners David Muta, Raymond Gunemba and Koriak Upaiga will be at the heart of the squad. Youngsters like Tommy Semmy and Felix Komolong have plenty of club experience but this will be new territory for them. There’s a lot at stake and every member of the squad will want to perform.

Samoa Samoa
Things could have gone better for Samoa in 2012 after the went home without a win from their first OFC Nations Cup. This time around they’ve got a new coach in charge, they’ve recruited heavily across Australia and New Zealand and they have been preparing ever since they triumphed in Stage 1. Scott Easthope has moved from an advisory role to the position of head coach, while former coach Phineas Young is now the assistant. The changes won’t ahve had too much effect on the players who remain determined to improve their standing and earn their first passage to Stage 3 of FIFA World Cup qualifying. With veteran Desmond Faaiuaso sure to add some flair up front, the addition of Jai Ingham will also be turning heads. The Melbourne Victory midfielder has earned his first call-up to represent Samoa and will bring a huge amount of skill and experience to the squad. 1

Solomon Islands
Experience is where recent OFC B Licence accredited coach Moses Toata has put his faith coming into this competition. Talismanic attacking duo Benjamin Totori and Henry Fa’arodo, both well known across the Pacific football community, will lead the front line. At the back Solomon’s have safety in Nelson Sale, Bata Furi and Haddis Aengari, all three of whom are seasoned campaigners. Plenty of attention will be turned towards Auckland City FC striker Micah Lea’alafa who a lot of fans will be waiting to see. The dual international helped the Solomon Islands qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup earlier this year and will be doing his best to see the Bonitos through to their first regional title if he can. Aiding in that pursuit will be the expert technical eye of Lea’alafa’s Auckland City coach Ramon Tribulietx who has come on board as a technical advisor in the weeks leading up to kick off. 1

Tahiti
Defending a title is never an easy feat but Tahiti will be as determined to impress on the regional stage as they were four years ago. Steevy Chong Hue’s goal in the final of the 2012 OFC Nations Cup saw Tahiti through to an historic victory and the forward will be out to make a similar contribution here in Port Moresby. Assistant to Eddy Etaeta during that campaign, Ludovic Graugnard has stepped up to lead this side, and is relying on some seasoned campaigners to assist him. Defender Nicholas Vallar is joined by keeper Mikael Roche as well as Heimano Bourebare, Vincent Simon, Alvin Tehau and Henri Caroine to provide the base of experience. XV Pacific Games runner-up Fred Tissot brings youth to the equation along with Tauhiti Keck. 1

Vanuatu
Vanuatu have an exciting line-up that could see them go far. Coach Moise Poida is one of the region’s most experienced and talented Pacific Island coaches and he’s been working with a large majority of these players in various teams over the past four years. The flair of Bong Kalo, Jacky Ruben, Don Mansale and Kensi Tangis will be well complimented by the defensive stability of Brian Kaltack and Jason Thomas. Vanuatu has a strong academy programme and many of this squad are graduates. They’ve done well on the regional stage at youth level and while they’ve fallen short of the final hurdle they’ve gotten closer with each attempt and this could well be the year they peak. 1
