2022
Welcome! We are honored and excited to have you on campus for our Summer Orientation Program! The Towering Traditions Orientation Program is designed to help you navigate the transition into the Belmont community. Towering Traditions is about the legacy and the life of Belmont University. Tradition reminds us that being a Belmont Bruin is bigger than any of us. It starts with the thousands of Belmont students who have gone before you—students who dared to dream bigger, who committed to serve faithfully and who understood the privilege, honor and responsibility of living life under the Tower. As representatives of the Towering Traditions (TT) orientation program, we carry on this legacy. But it is not just about the past; it’s also about the present. Life Under the Tower is about service, creativity and exploration. It is about bringing your passions, abilities and curiosity to the table. It is about giving back and making the world a better place. It is about you discovering and developing your gifts in order to better serve the world around you. It is about you investing in your education to step more fully into the person God has created you to be. Life Under the Tower is a community of learners, explorers and encouragers. Life Under the Tower is layered with curious scholars, inspiring creatives, soon-to-be nurses, teachers, lawyers and innovative entrepreneurs. Life Under the Tower is the life you are entering. Towering Traditions is the beautiful combination of Belmont past and present. It helps us appreciate the rich legacy of our past while we’re living out our present and preparing for our future. We know such a transition can be filled with emotions and excitement for what the next chapter holds. As veterans of the Belmont community, we could not be more excited for the journey that is before you. We have witnessed the beauty of life at Belmont, and we can't wait for you to join the Bruin community!

MEET THE ORIENTATION COUNCIL
FARRIS TURNER | Senior | Psychology & Global Leadership Studies | Tuscaloosa, AL I grew up in a college town, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and knew early on that I wanted a smaller, more unique college experience. Belmont immediately caught my eye as a place where I could grow in my faith, as well as in the arts. I entered college as a Theater Performance major. Three years and three academic major changes later, I have discovered that Belmont has helped me achieve far more than just spiritual and academic growth. The Belmont community has been life-changing for me. I hope it will be just as impactful for you. Welcome to Belmont! VANCE MAZURE | Senior | Commercial Music | Wheeling, WV As a high school student in West Virginia, the only thing I looked for during my college search was a place to grow into the professional musician that I wanted to be. But what I found in Belmont was so much more—I found a new home. Over 500 miles away from the house I grew up in, my involvement in the College of Music & Performing Arts, Towering Traditions, Bruin Recruiters and the greater Nashville music community has brought me friends and family that I will cherish forever. I cannot wait to watch the Belmont community grow as all of you begin to make your mark on the people and the place we love. MAGGIE MONTGOMERY | Senior | Creative & Entertainment Industries | Athens, TN The last thing I wanted to do was follow my older sister to college, but Belmont was too hard to resist. Watching orientation leaders welcome her—and her mini fridge—with open arms raised my standards for what community could mean at a university. Each community I have found at Belmont has surrounded me with individuals excited to grow, not only as students and industry professionals but as humans learning how to love one another. We're so glad you're here! GARRETT JACOB | Senior | Songwriting and Christian Leadership | Scaggsville, MD When I first visited Belmont, the whole weekend was gray and rainy. I was disappointed I wouldn’t get to see campus in the sun and warm weather, but my mom told me that if I loved it in the rain, I would love it in the sun that much more! I originally visited Belmont for the Songwriting program, but what really drew me in and has kept me here more than anything is our community. I’ve been able to get involved in organizations that have given me my closest friends and have truly made Belmont my home. I hope even today, you experience the beauty of the Belmont community. Welcome home, Bruins! MAE MCANINCH | Senior | English | Houston, TX Growing up in Texas, I always wanted to attend a big university with a good football team. However, the first time I stepped foot on Belmont’s campus, I knew I was home. Through Belmont’s Mock Trial Team, Greek Life, and Towering Traditions, I have found communities that care for me. Each experience I have had here has shaped me into a more authentic version of myself. Belmont has allowed me to find who I have always been and become who I have always wanted to be. It may take time and patience to find your home here, but I am so excited for you to experience the magic that is Belmont University! 2 | BELMONT UNIVERSITY
NATE PYLANT | Senior | Music Therapy | Newnan, GA Belmont was high on my radar since high school. But if we are honest, it was my momma praying for me in the Bell tower during my audition that landed me here! This campus and the people that fill it have become my home base. Everyone at Belmont puts so much thought and energy into making their passion(s) a career—which is inspiring to witness. I am so grateful for the opportunities and relationships I have found at Belmont. There is something here for everyone. We're so glad you're here! GO BRUINS! JADE RYAN HOLLISTER | Senior | Exercise Science | Greenwood, SC When I joined my older brother on his college search, I saw firsthand the beauty of Belmont’s campus - including meeting all the friendly people! I knew Belmont was where I belonged. I decided to move 7 hours away from my small hometown in South Carolina to Belmont. I was nervous at first, but I got plugged into various organizations, gained lifelong friendships, and eventually found my home at Belmont. This journey looks different for everyone, but if you fully embrace this place, it will be one of the best journeys of your life! Welcome home y’all! CHENEY CRESWELL | Senior | Audio Engineering | Griffin, GA I grew up in the small town of Griffin, Georgia, and graduated high school with the same people I went to kindergarten with. I had some experience outside of this bubble, but I was still very nervous to come to Nashville. Since Belmont had the Audio Engineering program I wanted to pursue, I decided to make the jump. Making the decision to branch out of my comfort zone has forever changed the trajectory of my life. I will always love being a Georgia Peach, but I would never trade being a Belmont Bruin for anything. Welcome to Belmont! GRACE USLEMAN | Senior | Audio Engineering | Austin, TX When starting the hunt for my future college, I had two requirements: a modern vocal program and an opportunity to study music production. Slowly but surely, picking Belmont made sense and felt right. I packed my things and moved 12 hours from my home of Austin, Texas! I started in Commercial Voice, but settled on majoring in Audio Engineering. I was nervous at first, but now I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. I encourage you to start your journey here with an open mind and heart and know that if you let it, this place will feel like home. Welcome to Belmont, y’all! DIEGO MELENDEZ | Senior | Biology | Birmingham, AL Choosing Belmont is easily the best decision I have ever made. I am from Birmingham, Alabama and was blessed to be surrounded by remarkable family and friends. Birmingham shaped who I am, but I wanted to explore the world and discover more about myself. When I arrived at Belmont, I was welcomed by the Towering Traditions leaders with a kindness that I had never seen. I was able to make immediate connections and find my home in different organizations on campus. Belmont has helped to grow and shape who I am today, and I am so excited to welcome you all into this community!

ACADEMIC PLANNING
REGISTERING FOR CLASSES FAQ
A major component of your orientation is focused on your preparation for classes in the fall! This is an exciting time as you begin to map out your first semester at Belmont! In order to ensure your success, below is a list of answers to common course registration questions.
How will I know what courses to register for my first semester? During your academic planning session, you will be advised on what courses you will need to take during your first semester at Belmont.
What should I do to get ready for course registration? No preparation is required. You will be led step-by-step through the advising and registration process by people who have done this many times. Our primary goal is to help you select and register for the classes you need at times that work well for you. That said, below you will find resources for additional information if you are curious now about your academic options.
How many classes do I need to take my first semester? Usually students take 12–16 credit hours their first semester. This typically equates to four or five classes. Most classes you will take your first semester are 3–4 credit hours each. (Music majors will be slightly different and will be advised accordingly.)
What do I need to bring with me? > Your BU ID number > Your password for your MyBelmont account > Something to write with What advising tools are available on the Belmont website? The primary advising tools are DegreeWorks and ClassFinder, and both are accessed through your MyBelmont account. ClassFinder lists all available classes and times for the upcoming semester, and DegreeWorks lists your personal degree requirements based on your declared major and minor. How do I find my DegreeWorks and Classfinder? > To access DegreeWorks: log in to MyBelmont > click on Registration (left hand column of page) > click on DegreeWorks (student) > To access Classfinder: Visit classfinder.belmont.edu or log in to MyBelmont > click on Registration (left hand column of page) > click on Classfinder Do I need to look at ClassFinder and DegreeWorks before my academic planning session during Summer Orientation? During your academic planning session, you will be guided through the advising and registration process. Choosing classes is not difficult, but it can feel overwhelming when you are unfamiliar with the process. Our goal is to make this initial registration session as stress-free for you as possible!
What if I have taken AP/IB/Dual Enrollment credits? Where do those apply? You will have the opportunity to ask where your credits will apply when you meet for your academic planning session during Summer Orientation. If you’d like to take a look beforehand at our list of AP/IB credits we accept you can visit: www.belmont.edu/catalog > Undergrad Catalog > Academic Policies > Alternative Credit Programs > Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate. Who is my academic advisor? You will be assigned a primary academic advisor by August 20—prior to the start of the Fall Semester. You will be notified of who your advisor is via your Belmont email. Your primary advisor’s name will be the first one listed in the advisor section in DegreeWorks. Will I meet my academic advisor during my Summer Orientation academic planning session? You will most likely be advised in a group setting during your academic planning session. There will be faculty and professional staff advising experts in your academic college session that will guide you on the courses you need to take and how to register for these courses. You will likely not meet with your primary academic advisor during this time. When will I get to meet one-on-one with my academic advisor? You will meet individually with your primary academic advisor during the Fall Semester to plan your second semester of courses and discuss your academic plan towards the path to a successful graduation at Belmont. ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
