A Place to Belong

Choosing a college is a big decision. It’s not just about classes and credits, although academics are important. College is about preparing for a career and building lifelong friendships. It’s about studying hard and getting involved. It’s about transforming your mind, your life and the world around you. Belmont’s innovative academics, outstanding faculty, vibrant campus life and location in Nashville provide an opportunity like no other. Belmont offers not only a tremendous higher education experience but also the chance to develop existing talents while discovering new ones, empowering your future in ways you may have never before imagined. As you compare everything that goes into your college decision, ask yourself this: Is Belmont where I belong?

A Leader in Academics If you’re looking for a school with professors who are available to you and take an active interest in making your college experience the best it can be, Belmont is a clear winner. Our 13:1 student to faculty ratio makes for a uniquely personal learning experience. In fact, nearly half of Belmont’s classes consist of fewer than 20 students. Belmont is also home to a number of unique academic programs that link classroom education with real-life experience. We don’t just follow the trends; instead, we’re leading the way with pioneering interdisciplinary majors like music therapy, social entrepreneurship, global leadership studies and public health. U.S. News & World Report has praised Belmont in recent years for “leading the pack in improvements and innovative changes.” Maybe they heard about our business majors who launched and manage a student-run boutique on campus or our music business course that sent students on tour with ‘60s rock band The Turtles. Part of Belmont’s academic mission is to engage and transform the world through international study, service and internship opportunities on six of the seven continents. Each year hundreds of students from all majors study abroad, earning Belmont credits while gaining a greater respect for other cultures and an increased skill set with immeasurable value in today’s global marketplace. Belmont’s liberal arts base means you’ll get intensive studies in all the liberal arts and humanities, but we also offer highly regarded professional and pre-professional programs in accounting, nursing, pre-law and more. Belmont may be most well-known for its music resume—it was named one of the best music business programs in the country by Rolling Stone and Time—but you’ll want to get to know all of our colleges, programs and majors before making a decision.

Faculty, staff, stakeholders and students foster a community of care that has been and will forever be my conception of ‘Belmont’.”

Vernon Hills, ILLINOIS MAJOR: Commercial Music for Guitar ABOUT ME: Greek Life Bruin Recruiters Tour Guide Beltones SGA “Belmont is unique because of the diverse opportunities and experiences you are offered. From great D1 basketball to songwriting on the peaceful Quad to doing community service downtown with one of our 160 student organizations, the possibilities are endless. After only a couple of years into my Belmont career, I’ve already been blown away by my growth and experiences.”

A Thriving Community Our beautiful 75-acre campus is packed with opportunities. Dive into campus life with any of our 160+ clubs and organizations, or cheer on one of our 17 NCAA Division I teams. Want to get in on the action? Our popular intramurals program includes everything from flag football and basketball to wiffleball and dodgeball. Or maybe a game of Frisbee on the Quad is more your style? With more than half of Belmont undergrads living on campus, there’s always something going on from socials, movie nights and concerts to the annual Fall Follies or other events held in the 5,500-seat Curb Event Center. Our campus continues to grow, too, with recent openings of a beautiful new cafeteria and two state-of-the-art academic buildings: the Janet Ayers Academic Center—which houses liberal arts, science and religion programs along with numerous lab spaces and a 250-seat chapel—and the R. Milton and Denice Johnson Center, which serves as the home for Harrington Place Dining as well as the media studies program and the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. Other buildings worth boasting about include the McAfee Concert Hall, with its unparalleled acoustics, and the Beaman Student Life Center, home to our campus gym and rock-climbing wall. Great—and familiar—food options are available across campus as well with McAlister’s Deli, Chick-fil-A and a We Proudly Brew Starbucks venue that are just steps away, ready to provide a full meal or quick snack. And in terms of student activities, there’s a club or group for nearly every interest. If Greek Life is your thing, Belmont University is home to five nationally recognized sororities and four nationally recognized fraternities representing NPC, IFC and NPHC. Or choose from a wide range of organizations, from academic to athletic to social to spiritual. The Bruins are big on giving back, too, logging more than 200,000 hours of community service annually.

A Growing, Urban Hometown One of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, Nashville was rated one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world, according to Lonely Planet. But all that acclaim hasn’t gone to our heads. We were also named the friendliest city in America by Travel + Leisure. Our popularity may have something to do with our booming health care industry, thriving music scene and healthy job market, not to mention being a hub of higher education, with more than 20 colleges and universities located in the area. Our status as the state capital means Nashville is a business hub, too, providing endless opportunities for internships in a variety of fields. With professional sports teams, more than 150 live music venues, world-class museums and a wide range of outdoor activities, Nashville is a city with plenty to offer. The Belmont campus is also just blocks from historic Music Row as well as the trendy coffeehouses, boutiques and restaurants of Hillsboro Village and the 12 South Neighborhood. Drive a few miles and you’re in the heart of downtown, an interesting mix of honky tonks and history, with landmarks like the Ryman Auditorium, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts just waiting for you to explore. When you choose a college, you also choose a new hometown, and as a Belmont Bruin you’ll be proud to be part of the larger Nashville community. If that sounds good to you, let us be the first to say, “Welcome home!”

Also, make plans to attend a Preview Day which are unique Saturday visit days for you and your family to preview the University and meet current students and faculty in each major. Visiting campus is a great way to understand the Belmont difference.
