BY THE NUMBERS: ATHLETIC ACADEMICS AT BELMONT
AMP: ATHLETE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The Athlete Mentorship Program (AMP) helps initiate and develop relationships between Belmont student-athletes and professionals from a wide array of industries in the Nashville area. These connections provide the student-athlete with guidance and direction in areas such as personal goals, career development, networking and future employment opportunities. Additionally, AMP offers personal development that will assist student-athletes as they transition to life after Belmont. The hope for AMP participants is that the connection between the mentor and mentee will grow and develop into a long-term professional relationship. AMP is the brainchild of Belmont Athletics Director Scott Corley and was created in 2018. In the 2021-22 academic year, AMP’s fourth year of existence, 40 student-athletes from all 17 sports participated in the program. This year’s group of mentors come from a number of career fields including accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, health care, music business, public relations, sales and sports. The group also boasts 14 Belmont alumni, including 11 former student-athletes.
AMP is a part of a larger student-athlete development program at Belmont. In addition to AMP, Belmont student-athletes are provided education and training on financial literacy, brand building, mental health, academic integrity, and self-defense.
“Getting the chance to build a genuine relationship with a student-athlete and reflect back on my experiences as a student-athlete through the AMP program, has been such an eye-opening experience. There are few things more lifegiving to me than hearing individuals talk about their passions and what excites them when thinking about the future. Being a mentor has awarded me the privilege of walking alongside a student-athlete deciding what’s next for them and seeking open doors for the next phase of their life which I believe is a truly priceless opportunity.”

“During my time as a mentor I have been able to not only give back to a school that helped me get where I am today, but I’ve been able to build strong relationships that will last beyond this program. I have gained so much knowledge from business men and women that have mentored me along the way, and this is such a great way to do exactly that for Belmont athletes.”
