CALENDAR OF EVENTS
FROM THE DEAN The College of Music & Performing Arts welcomes you to the Fall 2019 performance season at Belmont University! Our tradition of excellence continues with a diverse and exciting offering of stage productions, concerts and recitals this fall. I personally invite you to review this brochure and plan to join us for any and all of our performances and events. You will be captivated by our impressive students, faculty and guest artists. Highlights of our season include: • The Theatre Program will stage a trio of productions. Crumbs from the Table of Joy by Lynn Nottage explores African-American family life in the 1950s. Agronautika by Mary Zimmerman is a retelling of Jason’s quest for the Golden Fleece. And the Word Became Flesh reimagines the Gospel according to John. • Musical Theatre will produce the musical version of the beloved classic Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. • Opera Theatre presents The Tender Land by Aaron Copeland, a tale of harvest time during the Great Depression. • The Woods Piano Concert Series will feature special guest George Li, winner of the Silver Medal at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition. The vast talents of our student and faculty musicians will be on display throughout the fall with noon concerts, various ensemble performances and the Faculty Concert Series. And in November, we will celebrate the holiday season by filming a new Christmas at Belmont at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center to be aired in December on PBS stations across the country. The College of Music & Performing Arts is honored to bring the finest performances and productions to Nashville, from diverse musical styles to uplifting theatre and vibrant dance. Whatever your taste, I hope you’ll join us as we spotlight the next generation of artists and performers.
