Mass Communication at BELMONT UNIVERSITY

Belmont University’s Mass Communication program offers students a broad range of coursework in various aspects of media theory and practice. Our generalist approach to media studies is strategically designed for students who want to prepare for careers in electronic media management, operations and advertising, or for students who anticipate continuing their academic pursuits by attending graduate school.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?

The process: Smaller class sizes and one-on-one advising mean that each student receives the individual attention that best facilitates academic success. Students who major in Mass Communication will have opportunities for a variety of professional internships following their second year. Because of our reputation and track record, the Nashville media community looks to Belmont first for interns and part-time employees. Plus, our faculty maintain close relationships with media organizations everywhere. Positions are regularly available at radio and television stations, online news and entertainment organizations, record labels and dozens of highly respected public relations firms. Mass Communication majors can also join the staff of the OVC Digital Network, offering live multicamera production of Belmont Bruins athletic contests. COURSES AND CURRICULUM: Students majoring in Mass Communication may choose to earn either the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Required courses in the 30-hour major include: • Communication Law • Entrepreneurial Media • Mass Communication Theory • Mass Media & Society • Media Advertising & Sales • Media Ethics • Media Leadership • Media Operations • Media Programming • Media Research Methods The Mass Communication program also offers a minor in Sports & Media.
