How to Recycle in Residence

HUB

Please help us reach our goal of keeping 50 per cent of UAlberta’s waste out of the landfill by the end of 2015.

What can I recycle? In HUB, you can recycle beverage containers, paper and cardboard, glass and light metals and plastics.

How can I recycle correctly? The key to success is sorting—separating the recyclables out from your organics and waste and placing items in the right bins:

Beverage containers You have two options: 1) Rinse them and bring them to the Recyclables containers down the hall from the mailboxes or to the large blue bin outside the loading dock. 2) Bring them to a local Bottle Depot where you can collect a refund.

All other recyclables Collect all other recyclables in your room. Empty and rinse the containers. Bring all recyclables to the recycling area down the hall from the mailboxes or to the large blue bin outside the loading dock.

Organics Collect organics in a small container (with or without a bag) and bring it to the Organics container down the hall from the mailboxes.

Waste Put the rest of your waste in a bag and bring it outside the loading dock. Place directly into the large green landfill bin.

Where are the bins located? Containers for Mixed Paper, Cardboard, Recyclables and Organics are located down hallway 9005. A large blue recycling bin and a large green landfill bin are located outside the HUB mall loading dock.

What do I need? It’s simple! All you need are two small containers, one for recyclables and one for waste. You’ll also need some garbage bags.

Where do the contents go after I put them in the bins? Recyclables are picked up by a contracted hauler and brought to a materials recovery facility where they are further sorted for recycling. Organics and waste are collected by a contracted hauler and brought to a local composting facility or a landfill.
