How to Recycle in Residence
Michener Park
Please help us reach our goal of keeping 50 per cent of UAlberta’s waste out of the landfill by 2015.
What can I recycle? In Michener Park, you can recycle beverage containers, paper and cardboard, glass and light metals and plastics.
How can I recycle correctly? The key to success is sorting—separating the recyclables out from your waste and placing items in the right bins:
Beverage containers You have two options: 1) Bring them to a local Bottle Depot where you can collect a refund. 2) Rinse them, remove any lids or caps and add them to your other recyclables.
All other recyclables Collect all other recyclables in your apartment. Empty and rinse the containers. Bring all recyclables outdoors and place them into the large blue recycling bin.
Waste Put the rest of your waste in a bag and bring it outdoors. Place directly into one of the large green landfill bins (located throughout Michener Park).
Where are the bins located? There are three blue recycling bins: one north of Vanier House, one east of Vanier House and one beside Alice’s Park. Green landfill bins are located outdoors, all throughout Michener Park.

What do I need? It’s simple! All you need is a small container for recyclables and some garbage bags. Your room is supplied with a landfill bin.
Where do the contents go after I put them in the bins? Recyclables are picked up by a contracted hauler and brought to a materials recovery facility where they are further sorted for recycling. Waste is collected by a contracted hauler and brought to a landfill.
