How to Recycle in Residence
Newton Place
Please help us reach our goal of keeping 50 per cent of UAlberta’s waste out of the landfill by 2015.
What can I recycle? In Newton Place, you can recycle beverage containers, paper, cardboard, glass, light metals and plastics.
How can I recycle correctly? The key to success is sorting—separating the recyclables out from your waste and placing items in the right bins:
Beverage containers You have two options: 1) Bring them to a local Bottle Depot where you can collect a refund. 2) Rinse them, remove any lids or caps and add them to your other recyclables.
All other recyclables Collect all other recyclables in your apartment. Empty and rinse the containers. Bring all recyclables outdoors behind the building and place them into the large blue recycling bin.
Waste Put the rest of your waste in a bag and bring it outdoors to the bins located behind the building. Place directly into the large green landfill bin.
Where are the bins located? Blue recycling bins and green landfill bins are located outdoors, on the east side of Newton Place.

What do I need? It’s simple! All you need is a small container for recyclables and landfill waste. You’ll also need some plastic grocery or garbage bags.
Where do the contents go after I put them in the bins? Recyclables are picked up by a contracted hauler and brought to a materials recovery facility where they are further sorted for recycling. Waste is collected by a contracted hauler and brought to a landfill.
