A Derby Theatre Production Featuring Derwent Brass
brassED OFF Adapted by Paul Allen, based on the screenplay by Mark Herman for the smash-hit film FRI 18 SEPTEMBER – SAT 10 OCTOBER Mon – Sat 7.30pm, matinees 2.30pm
IT'S 1992 AND ThE MINERS ARE STRIkING AS ThEIR LOCAL COLLIERY fACES CLOSuRE. Danny’s dreams of leading the pit's brass band to victory at a national competition at the Albert Hall seem remote as the men choose between picket lines and redundancy packages. But when Flugelhorn-playing Gloria returns to her home town the band get their oompah back and romance is rekindled with her childhood sweetheart Andy. However, when the real reason for Gloria's return is revealed and the pressures of the strike get too much for the band members, things start to fall out of tune... Brassed Off is a much-loved tale, full of heart and humour made right here in Derby by the team who brought you Kes, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and Solace of the Road. Balancing grit and wit with a poignant look at recent history, the performance will feature live music from Derwent Brass to deliver a thrilling night at the theatre. With no wood for their fire and only one piece of leather left to make a final pair of shoes, there was little festive cheer on Christmas Eve in the shoemaker’s shop. sistEr aCt TUE 13 – SAT 17 OCTOBER TUE– SAT 7.30PM, SAT 2.30PM Tickets £16 – £18 Sister Act is the feel-amazing musical comedy. Featuring original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar®-winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look — a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice! A wonderful, family friendly, feel-good show. It would be a sin to miss it!

suppOrting yOur thEatrE Derby Theatre is a registered charity working to produce and support the very best in theatre-making in the Midlands for audiences and artists. We provide an inspiring programme of opportunities for children and communities to engage with culture, whether for fun or as part of their education, and also support local people developing careers in the arts. We are mostly funded through our ticket sales and grants from our funders. This money allows us to do excellent work, but, like most charities, we also need to generate much-needed public support in order to work with all the people, young and old, who can benefit from the theatre’s activities.
If you would like to support Derby Theatre you can do this in a number of different ways: • Donate to our Plus One scheme for looked-after children.
• Leave a legacy to ensure our schools and community programme continues to thrive. • Your company could sponsor a Derby Theatre production.
• Gift Aid donations when purchasing your tickets or text donations on the number to the right.

pLus OnE Major arts and cultural organisations in Derby have joined forces with Barnardo’s, Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council to give children in care the chance to experience live performance, film and workshops in the city. So far, customers have generously donated in excess of £20,000 to Plus One (including one single donation of £500 from one generous customer), across all the venues, and we have provided over 1,000 opportunities to children in care, their carers and care leavers to enjoy the arts in Derby. At Derby Theatre itself, young people involved in the scheme have made over 500 visits to the Theatre all supported by our staff and Barnardo’s. We are having a renewed push on the scheme over Christmas and hope that people will give
generously so that more children can enjoy the wide range of arts activity in Derby. “I have done things that I never thought I’d be able to do, like get up on stage and tell a room full of adults all about me. It’s made me feel right confident.” Jaydon (Care Leaver). If you want to contribute, enquire at Box Office when booking tickets for either Derby Theatre, Déda or QUAD or visit our website: derbytheatre.co.uk/individual-giving/plus-one
