June's Diary is an American Pop/R&B group and winners of BET's, "Chasing Destiny". The all woman quintet is currently on tour and making their rounds across the country. Formed by Grammy Award winning singer, Kelly Rowland and Celebrity Choreographer/Director Frank Gatson Jr, June's Diary came together as part of Black Entertainment Televisions (BET) 2016 hit Reality Docu-series. June's Diary consists of members; Kristal Lyndriette Smith, Ashly Williams, Brienna DeVlugt, Gabrielle "Gabby" Carreiro and Shyann Roberts. The "Stay" singers were signed with L.A. Reid's record label Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Page 44 Entertainment, Inc.
During a recent show in Pittsburgh, PA, June's Diary performed live as part of R. Kelly's, After Party Tour. OE Magazine met up with the ladies during sound check and was greeted by their manager Frank Gaston Jr. Gaston yelled down center stage, "I need you to get it on first take. This is what makes Beyonce such a huge star, she gets it". June's Diary were fresh off the road after wrapping up a show in New York City the previous night. Yet they rose to the occasion, kicked it into high gear and brought their best. Later on that night,we were backstage with June's Diary and you could feel the excitement and energy in the air. R. Kelly hadn't performed in Pittsburgh in years so fans were already excited. This would be a great night for June's Diary to make their debut in the Western PA market. After several takes and a little harmonizing the group was finished with their warm up and ready to for our exclusive conversation. Frank provided us with a private dressing room area where we could speak quietly without any interruptions. We broke the ice by gifting the group with a complimentary "Welcome to Pittsburgh Packages" which included a terrible towel (Pittsburgh Steelers), key chains and various other keepsakes. I advised the group that the terrible towels would be a great way to connect with the Pittsburgh audience. The main focus of our conversation was to capture their essence and to let their fans know these ladies have something fresh and new to offer. The ladies of June's Diary had no problem rolling out the red carpet exclusively for Official Entertainment Magazine. OEM: OK ladies. So I'd like for you to tell me all about the whole June’s Diary experience? June's Diary: (Krystal) I mean it's kind of a loaded question because in the end, It's been a beautiful experience just overall. We all gained four new sisters. (Shyann) What Krystal just said, you know it is a great experience. We get to learn all of our personalities and being on the show it was kind of like a workshop because we never knew what was going on but it was a beautiful experience. OEM: I’ve enjoyed some of the music, I've listened to so far. I’ve been a fan before tonight. I loved your rendition of Jodeci’s ”Stay”. And I also noticed you did a cover for Xscape’s “Tonight”. Amazing, because that's a song not everybody can do and you all owned it. June's Diary: Thank You. Like we stated previously, this has been a journey and a real learning experience. OEM: So whay was it like working with Kelly Rowland? How was that experience having her as a mentor? Junes's Diary: We couldn’t ask for a better mentor. We grew up listening to Destiny’s Child and all the girl groups that were out. She's been really supportive, kinda like a big sister. Especially on the show. She definitely dropped a lot of knowledge on us. OEM: Who are some of your other musical influences? JD: The Beetles, En Vogue, Destiny’s Child, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Alicia Keyes, Bryson Tiller, Bruno Mars. OEM: Is there anybody else in the industry that you would like to work with artists, producer? June's Diary: Yes! Missy Elliot, The Dream, Kendric Lamar, Pharrell... too many too name. OEM: Any other new ventures that we should be watching out for? Any television, movies, fashion or merchandising projects? June's Diary: We have a few things brewing.
