MIDDLESBROUGH TOWN HALL

Middlesbrough Town Hall – one of the region’s leading music and comedy venues – has reopened after a major £7.7m refurbishment. The historic venue reopened in the spring, with �rst-class performance spaces including the Courtroom, Crypt and Main Hall cementing its role as the cultural heart of the Tees Valley. MIMA

Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) plays a key role within the national and international landscape for art and culture. Part of Teesside University, it connects art, people and ideas. There are changing seasonal exhibitions and a permanent presentation of the Middlesbrough Collection, a display of artworks which highlight the in�uence and use of art in the town. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE ROYAL NAVY HARTLEPOOL

ORMESBY HALL

Home to the Pennyman family for more than 400 years, this Georgian house in Middlesbrough is full of stories - from their involvement in the English Civil War to the scandal of Wicked Sir James and more recently the lives of World War One survivor Jim and his arts loving wife Ruth. SALTBURN CLIFF TRAMWAY

The Saltburn Cli� Tramway is the oldest water balanced funicular still in operation in Great Britain, linking the Victorian town of Saltburn with the only remaining pleasure pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast. It was designed and installed by George Croydon Marks in 1884, to replace a vertical hoist that had been declared unsafe. In 1924 an electrically operated water pump was installed. The installation has recently been lovingly refurbished restoring the Tramway to its former Victorian glory. Both carriages are fully accessible, dog friendly and coach parties and school groups are welcome (booking in advance is recommended). Hartlepool Art Gallery Hartlepool Art Gallery sits centrally within the cultural quarter of the town and is part of the Church Street innovation and Skills Quarter (ISQ). It is a stunning and beautifully restored Grade II Victorian church, formerly known as Christ Church which was built in 1858. The gallery opened in 1996 and is within a minutes’ walk from Hartlepool Railway Station and close to Hartlepool Town Centre.
