ESTRELAS
F
rom the confrontation of the fear of the unknown and the power to favor self-knowledge with the metaphor of stories, Estrelas is a work composed by a poetic narrative tale in dialogue with illustrations that broaden the understanding of the event, incorporating new meanings into the reading. The feeling of fear, common to all human beings, appears in the narrative at the moment of sleep, when, in a common way in the experience of many children, darkness can appear as a kind of abyss where the imagination acts, generating discomfort and insecurities. Recovering the strength of the metaphor of light in darkness, the narrative overflows with support and confidence, awakening courage and offering children the leading role in facing what they understand as danger. The magic of the narrative lies in the intimate conversation between the poetry of the text and the paintings that make up the illustrations from the cover of the book, illustrated by an affectionate hug between father and son, both wrapped in a patchwork blanket that suggests the union of many stories and experiences shared by the characters. With a gentle rhythm, the text embraces the child’s fear and begins to transform, with the observation of the infinite sky and the brightness of the stars, the feeling into courage and self-confidence. Page by page, with the presence of strong colors, the child readers find a perfect hiding place with a magnificent ending. PEDRO GOSTA
T
his book takes us to a simple, and at the same time complex, adventure of a boy named Pedro, who, like so many others, nurtures, despite the difficulties of everyday life, his dreams before the limits of reality and the infinity of fantasy. In other words, the conflict between the legitimate inspirations of happiness and the obstacles to be overcome in the pursuit of our desires. Through an ingenious visual narrative, the book also reveals the eternal and ever-present need to understand that a child’s rights naturally involve material, educational and emotional issues. However, it is noteworthy that, beyond that, there is your right to dream and your own imagination. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Format: 21 x 21 cm Price: BRL 33.00 ISBN: 9788565505444 Themes: behavior; habits; fantasy; childhood; imagination; creativity and hope. Segment: Elementary School
A REVOLUÇÃO DOS BICHOS
A
revolução dos bichos,a classic text by George Orwell, reaches young readers in this thought-provoking adaptation by Henrique Rodrigues and illustrations by Adriana Cataldo. Transported to Brazilian soil, this reinterpretation presents a narrative that is both cutting and ironic, in addition to maintaining the provocative and reflective aspects of the original. For this reason, it is essential for all people who like exciting, complex and, above all, well told stories. The novel A revolução dos bichos, by George Orwell (1903-1950), was published in 1945, and became one of the most important books of the 20th century. It is about a group of animals that, disgusted with living conditions, expel humans from the farm. These animals, who think and talk, decide to create their own rules of coexistence, far from the slavery they were subjected to. As history unfolds, the idea of equality between the members of the new free community begins, little by little, to crumble. Fear, oppression, and exploitation return, for some, when they reach a position of power, feel superior to the majority. Although the original is set in England, in this adaptation the book is set in Brazil. Yes, right here, in the Cerrado region, close to our capital Brasília. This doesn’t alter the story at all, but reveals how much it is not only current, but universal. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Format: 14 x 21 cm Price: BRL 49.90 ISBN: 978586280913 Themes: adapted classics; freedom; social inequality; Brazilian reality. Segment: Middle School
EPAMINONDAS GOIABEIRA & A MÁQUINA DA FELICIDADE
E
paminondas Goiabeira & A Máquina da Felicidade is a book aimed at children and adolescents where time is the preponderant element: the past dialogues with the more-than-perfect past tense, and in this confluence of epochs, there is the Spanish flu, the most striking plague that plagued humanity in the last century. What is happiness? This complex and challenging question runs through the entire story of this exuberant book by Júlio Emílio Braz. In Epaminondas Goiabeira & A Máquina da Felicidade, we follow, through a long flashback, the memories of a man who, facing a crucial moment in his life, finds in his reminiscences the opportunity not only to review fundamental moments of his childhood, but also to reflect on how these passages impacted their existence. It is, then, still surrounded by the charms of a somewhat idyllic childhood, that the protagonist is confronted with death. A formative romance is forged at once touching, delicate and vibrant. Júlio Emílio Braz, a veteran author in Brazilian Literature, manages, in this book, to reach one of his most captivating and exciting moments in his already renowned career. NÃO É BEM ASSIM A HISTÓRIA
H
ow many people do you know who have divorced parents? How many times, even among friends, disagreements are generated because the stories don’t add up? Não é bem assim a história will accompany a group of friends in a survey of the interviewees’ family experiences. The book deals, in a relaxed way, with the different interpretations of the same situation, in this case, the separation of parents and their relationship with their children. The author manages to connect with the new generations and bring to the agenda several taboos of the family relationship, showing that not everything is as it seems and that every story depends on the perspective in which it is narrated. O JOGO DA DEMOCRACIA
D
ani, Joca, Mara, Leco and their friends take the field to defend Democracy, the neighborhood soccer team that will participate in a soccer championship. Rico, who was part of Democracy, left they all, as he wanted to own the whole team. As he failed, he decided to join the Golpe de Mestre. Who will win the championship? As the book’s presentation says: “But, after all, who can play ball? Why, everyone! There’s no longer that ‘it’s a man thing’, no, there are a lot of good girls on the ball and even the best on the team, like the Mara here in the book. And even when, believe me, women’s football was officially banned in Brazil, women stopped playing. It was almost forty years of prohibition! The resistance and insistence of the female players during that period served to inspire us and always remind us that football has to be a democratic space.” TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Format: 14 x 21 cm Price: BRL 42.00 ISBN: 9786586280586 Themes: citizenship; soccer; resistance; the woman; democracy; political rights; equality. SELECTION OF ILLUSTRATIONS Fairy Tales and Classic Stories
T
he illustrations selected and gathered in this project are the result of many different publications and projects by Rui de Oliveira. This is a differentiated work that appeals to all ages. Instead of a selection of pasteurized figures, we have a real work of art. This book is perfect for lovers of literature, illustration, and painting, as we learned from Master Rui how important it is to read images. After all, in a text, not everything is represented and not all images are explained by words, because “for each word, a different image”. This ambitious project has a graphic design by Raquel Matsushita, chosen by Rui for her special quality of harmonizing antagonistic elements in her work. In other words, Raquel reconciles Dionysian informality with the Apollonian rigor of purity, as Rui himself points out. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Format: 23 x 27 cm (hard cover) Price: BRL 150.00 ISBN: 9786586280548 Themes: fairy tales; classics; illustrations; visual literacy. Segment: Middle School

POR QUE EU NÃO CONSIGO GOSTAR DELE/DELA?
A
dolescence is a time of many doubts, anguish, and uncertainty. At this stage, sexuality is blossoming, and we go through – because everyone has gone, is going through or will go through – by selfquestioning about all conditions, all desires, including with regard to sexuality. If on the one hand we see beautiful movements of self-acceptance and discovery on social networks, on the other we live in times of great obscurantism and an attempt to cage the desires and containment of the experiences of young people, whether at home or at school, and, unfortunately, many times, with the initiative of the government. This book asks that for young people, who often they find themselves imprisoned by a cultural need (or family pressure) to create heteronormative bonds, when in fact they feel a desire for people of the same sex. But this book also understands that it is necessary to take this issue to the world, so that everyone can reflect on otherness, sexuality and, above all, the many possibilities of affection and desire. Por que eu não consigo gostar dele/dela? it is a book with two sides, two covers, four stories and many testimonials. The difference, or rather what is said different, can always frighten those who witness it. But fear exists in those who experience it, for fear of refusal often manifested in the form of physical violence - by others, for fear of looking in the mirror, identifying and not being able to express what one is and what (and who) if you wish. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Format: 14 x 21 cm Price: BRL 48.00 ISBN: 9786586280456 Themes: adolescence; conflicts; self-acceptance; family relationships; combating prejudice. Segment: High School
