City of Perris Trails Master Plan Projects Coming Soon The City Council approved a Trails Master plan in 2013 that lays out the City’s planned trails and bikeways for both recreational and commuter uses. The future trail and bikeway network in Perris will provide residents and the greater region with a network of pedestrian and bicycle facilities that connect to commercial and employment areas, transit hubs, parks, schools and other key destinations in Perris. The Trail Master Plan covers on- and off-street paved bicycle facilities, along with unpaved multipurpose trails. The Trails Master Plan can be found on the City website www.cityofperris.org. Two projects in the Trails Master Plan are currently under construction or in the early development stages:
Linear Park Construction of a walking trail over the top of the Metropolitan Water District’s Colorado River Aqueduct, between Evans Road and Bradley Road is under way. The 12 acre site will include a decomposed granite walking path with exercise stations, drought tolerant landscaping, and informational signage. Construction is expected to be completed in Summer 2014. San Jacinto River Trail In March 2014, the State of California Office of Grants and Local Services awarded the City of Perris $225,816 from the Habitat Conservation Fund program for the construction of a 1 mile segment of the San Jacinto River Trail. The funding
will be used to construct a 5 foot wide decomposed granite walking trail along the southerly border of the San Jacinto River corridor from Goetz Road to Ethanac Road. The trail will include interpretive signage tailored to the unique plants and wildlife that is found along the San Jacinto River to encourage healthy exercise through walking and the conservation of natural resources.

Waste and Recycling Services
April 22nd is Earth Day! Earth Day began in 1970 and was a way to demonstrate the importance of the environment on a national level. We’ve come a long way since 1970, but there is still so much we can do. What are YOU going to do this year on Earth Day to make a difference not only in your community but for future generations? Remember that although Earth Day is once every year, there are things that you can be doing year-round to help the environment. Recycle, bring reusable bags to the store, grow your own vegetables, walk or bike whenever possible…the opportunities are endless!
AB 341: COMMERCIAL RECYCLING Are you a business or apartment owner in the City of Perris? AB341 is a state law that requires all California businesses currently generating four (4) or more cubic yards of commercial solid waste per week and multi-family locations with five (5) or more units, to arrange for recycling services. This law went into effect July 1, 2012 and CR&R will work with you to get a recycling program started at your business or apartment complex. To start your program today, please contact our Customer Service Department for further information: 800.755.8112.
California Drought TIPS FOR CONSERVING WATER Following the lowest rainfall year in the state’s 163-year history, and with the Sierra snowpack at 17 percent of normal, a drought emergency has been called and California residents asked to cut their water use by 20 percent. The following are tips to conserve water in your household: 1. Turning the faucet off while brushing teeth or shaving saves about 10 gallons a day. 2. Using a broom to clean driveways, sidewalks and patios instead of a hose saves 8-18 gallons a minute. 3. Soak pots and pans instead of letting the water run while scraping them clean. 4. Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap. 5. Run the dishwasher only when full to save water and energy. 6. Install aerators on bathroom faucets. Save 1.2 gallons per person/day.
Cutting water use inside and outside our homes is extremely important. If each of us changed our water-use habits, we could save billions of gallons of water. For additional information: www.bewaterwise.com
