ALWAYS IMPROVING: SAFETY IS JOB #1
Safety is a top priority on the lines, around the o ce, and in our communities
We recognize Electrical Safety Month every May, but we also know the importance of practicing safety year-round. From our co-op crews to you, the consumermembers we serve, we recognize that everyone has a part to play in prioritizing safety.
According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International, thousands of people in the U.S. are critically injured or electrocuted as a result of electrical fires and accidents in their own homes. Many of these accidents are preventable. Electricity is a necessity, and it powers our daily lives. We know firsthand how dangerous electricity can be because we work with it 365 days a year.
Safety is more than a catchphrase. Mid-Ohio Energy hosts safety demonstrations for fire departments, schools, and community groups to demonstrate the dangers of electricity. We discuss emergency scenarios, like what to do in a car accident involving a utility pole and downed power lines. We caution students on the importance of staying clear of power lines and electrical equipment as well as using electricity safely at home.
As the weather warms and and children are excited to enjoy the outdoors, please talk with your kids about playing it safe around electricity. Help them be aware of overhead power lines near where they play outdoors.
We aim to provide an uninterrupted energy supply 24/ 7, 365 days per year. But more important is keeping our employees and the community safe around electricity. Contact Mid-Ohio Energy or visit MidOhioEnergy.com/ safety for additional electrical safety tips or if you would like us to provide a safety demonstration at your school or upcoming community event.
Safety achievement program recognizes culture of safety
The Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP) is a national program for electric co-ops to review and grade all aspects of their safety program. The goal of the program is to create a culture of safety, where safety is a core value and practices are evaluated consistently to encourage continous improvement.
Mid-Ohio Energy has participated in the program since 2010. Every three years, a thorough on-site observation is conducted. Last year, an on-site audit was completed for the co-op's facilities and practices.
