Watch as six spellers fight for the First Place Title at the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! As the 2005 Tony winner for Best Book of a Musical, this contemporary musical follows spellers through all the pandemonium of a Spelling Bee. Favorites include “Magic Foot,” “I Speak Six Languages,” and “I Love You Song.”

You haven’t lost that lovin’ feeling yet! Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers brings his flawless recipe of rock, rhythm and blues. As inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the brothers performed together for over forty years. Look forward to the classics “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin,’” “Unchained Melody” and Dirty Dancing’s “I’ve Had the Time of my Life.”

The ONU Symphony will present two all -time favorites, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and selections from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. It’s a perfect way to celebrate the Holidays.

A Gaudete Sunday program that invites seasonal reflection and holiday joy! It features wind band music composed by, among others, Gustav Holst, Charles Marie Widor, Yasahide Ito, and Alfred Reed. The program includes a new rendition of ’Twas the Night before Christmas narrated by ONU’s own John Armstrong, assistant professor of communication arts.

Individually and as a duo, the sharp talents of violinist Alex DePue and guitarist Joel Sanchez will take your breath away. It’s time for some magic! With never before-seen illusions of danger and wonder, the Spencers bring the Theatre of Illusion to the Freed Center stage. The husband and wife team have been called “modern day Houdinis” who incorporate both awe-inspiring illusions and a great deal of charisma! Their interactive show will feature drama, comedy and romance alongside each illusion. You won’t believe your eyes!

American musical theatre composer Joe Iconis will perform a very special concert with some of ONU’s finest musical theatre performers. His innovative rock musical style has brought forth several shows, including his work on Bloodsong Of Love: The Rock’n Roll Spaghetti Western.

Based on the 1967 film, Thoroughly Modern Millie follows a young flapper, Millie, on her journey to find a rich husband. Along the way, she overcomes peril, uncovers a crime and discovers that money is not as valuable as true love. With favorites such as “Not for the Life of Me,” “Forget about the Boy” and “Gimme Gimme,” Millie is an adventure you won’t want to miss.

For 36 years, some of the finest high school musicians in the state of Ohio have come to Ohio Northern for the Spring Band Festival. High school musicians and members of the ONU Symphonic Band will again work with an internationally renowned composer/conductor to create an afternoon of exciting music.

The first day of the 2012 ONU Spring Band Festival opens with a full concert presented by the Wind Orchestra. The Spring Band Festival, now in its 37th year, features a prominent composer/ conductor of wind band music. The featured soloist for the Friday concert will be Adam McCord, lecturer in music at ONU, performing John Mackey’s Saxophone Concerto.

Swing into spring with a concert of jazz chestnuts both old and new. Come hear some new versions of your favorite 1940s big band classics and more!

Ohio Northern University Ohio Northern University is a private, comprehensive University, comprising five colleges (Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Pharmacy and Law) that blend nationally ranked arts, sciences and professional programs.

ONU’s art and design, music, and theatre programs were once again named among the top 200 programs in the nation for creative students in Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers, Musicians and Writers (2010).

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art facility that houses the department of communication and theatre arts as well as two theatres and an art gallery. The Biggs Theatre is a 551seat theatre with a stage that has welcomed legends such as Carol Channing, Petula Clark, Debbie Reynolds, Van Cliburn, Jack Jones, Arturo Sandoval, “Whose Live Anyway?,” Peter Noone and Lee Ann Womack. The Stambaugh Studio Theatre is a 136-seat flexible-seating black box for smaller, more intimate performances. The Freed Center is proud to offer an outstanding children’s series as well as many educational opportunities throughout the season. We have brought many children’s books to our stage, such as Magic Tree House: The Musical, Strega Nona, The Velveteen Rabbit, The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon, and Knuffle Bunny.

Lost Tickets Policy

If you do not arrive by the printed performance time, we reserve the right to resell your ticket. However, if you would be kind enough to call us and let us know that you are going to be late, we will be kind enough to save your seat.

We are happy to offer ticket exchange privileges to our patrons (subject to the following):

We are happy to replace lost or misplaced tickets at $1 per ticket. Please call the box office at 419772-1900.

Ticket Information Groups of 20 or more are eligible to receive discounts to many of the events listed. Tickets may be ordered with a MasterCard, VISA, Discover or American Express. There is a senior discount for those 62 and older on designated events. There is also a $2 handling charge on all regular ticket orders. (Subscription orders are mailed free of charge.) Call the box office at 419-772-1900. The box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets may be exchanged for any performance up to 48 hours prior to the performance for which you hold tickets. You may exchange tickets for another performance of the same show or for another show, subject to availability. However, the box office cannot reimburse you if the exchange is for a ticket to a lower-priced event. You may purchase additional tickets as part of the exchange, subject to availability. There is a $1 per-ticket exchange fee. Tickets being exchanged must be returned to the box office before we can give you your new tickets. Box Office Show Times The lobby and the box office will open one hour prior to the performance time. The house will open 1/2 hours prior to the performance time.

Latecomer Policy The house manager may seat latecomers only during times that minimize disruption of a performance. In some cases there will be no seating until intermission. The management accepts no responsibility for inconvenience to latecomers and can make no adjustment because of it.

WONB Radio— The broadcast voice of ONU WONB 94.9 is the primary source for news, sports, weather, public affairs and entertainment in West Central Ohio. Listen to the oldies—music from the ’70s through the ’90s—during the day and Top 40 hits at night. Tune into WONB 94.9 every Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m. to hear about the coming week’s events at the Freed Center. Directions The Freed Center is located on the campus of Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio, on state Route 235, halfway between state Routes 30 and 309. Ada is 75 miles north of Dayton, 75 miles south of Toledo and 85 miles northwest of Columbus.

Parking There are three paved parking lots within a short walk. Passengers may also be dropped off under the canopy. Parking is free for all Freed Center events. Services for Patrons with Disabilities and Special Needs The Freed Center is wheelchairaccessible. Special wheelchair areas and seats are located on two levels in the Biggs Theatre. Please make any special needs known when purchasing tickets. Special parking, cutdown curbs and restroom access make the center convenient for everyone.

Cameras, Recording Devices and Cellular Phones The use of recording equipment or photography of any form during a performance is strictly prohibited by law. Cellular phone usage, including texting, is strictly prohibited during all performances. Fire Notice The exit indicated by an exit sign nearest your seat is the shortest route to the outside. In the event of a fire or other emergency, please walk, not run, to that exit.

Performance Policies Cellular phones and beepers must be turned off during performances. Patrons who need to be contacted in an emergency may leave the number 419-772-1900 with their call services. Be sure to leave your name and seat number at the box office. Most productions are appropriate for children ages 12 and up. Some shows are restricted. Please check the season listing for guidance. Please, no babies in arms. If a child is old enough to attend the theatre, they must have a ticket.
