At Northern, athletics and academics go hand in hand – excellence is the standard for both. Varsity athletes compete as members of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). This year, 32 individuals earned Academic AllOAC honors.

Intramural and Club Sports
70 percent of ONU students participate in intramural and club sports.
Intramural Sports: flag football, indoor and outdoor soccer, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, softball and volleyball Club Sports: rugby, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, fencing, softball, men’s volleyball and lacrosse
ONU also has an 18-hole disc golf course.

For the ninth time in 28 years, ONU won the 2011-12 Ohio Athletic Conference All Sports trophy. The Polar Bears won the trophy four consecutive years in 2007-10.

Service. Outreach. Engagement. Service, engagement and outreach are an integral part of the ONU experience. Statistics show that about
two-thirds of
ONU’s students were engaged in community service last year.
513 were engaged in academic service learning and 1,882 were engaged in other forms of community service. In total, ONU students donated
49,722 hours of service.
