The OAQHA Team has been busy at work gearing up for the 2024 ‘Not So’ Little Buckeye Horse Show.

The 2024 Little Buckeye will once again offer an outstanding exhibitor experience including:

• Free arena photos

• Free meals daily

• Circuit awards for each overall class winner

• Highpoint Awards (including Ranch, Halter & L2)

• Individual Class prizes

• Free Exhibitor Bag with entries

Garwood Arena continues to provide us with top class accommodations for our horse show. This year, additional stalls and camping are available. A new outdoor arena will allow additional space for riding and lunging.

OAQHA is once again offering their Amateur Engagement Stipend – A free Congress parking pass or $50. Any OQHA member that is an amateur is eligible to participate. Simply attend 2 OAQHA board meetings (via Zoom) and volunteer 4 hours at either the Little Buckeye or the Pancake Breakfast at the Quarter Horse Congress (hours at the Pancake Breakfast are only eligible for the $50). Once you’ve completed your 2 meetings and 4 hours, apply online at oaqha.com.

We hope to see many of you at the Little Buckeye July 11th-14th!

The event will feature live music Friday night, raffles and auctions on Saturday, and many prizes to be won! Contact Cynthia Bauman with questions at 330-323-3559 or visit www.oqha.com/annual-trail-ride for registration information.

Rather it be in or out of the show pen, our youth have been very hard at work. One of the fundraising activities this year is a $5,000 guaranteed reverse raffle. Each ticket costs $50, and we are only selling 400, so make sure to get yours quick! Selling will end at the OQHA Annual Picnic on Monday, June 17. All proceeds from this raffle will go to the travel fund to assist our youth members attending the Youth Excellence Seminar (YES) and AQHYA World Show.

As for YES, OQHA will be sending 12 youth members this year! OQHYA has 2 members currently holding an AQHYA office; Colton Smith is an executive committee member and Layni Wills is a Region 4 Director. Both will be running again, with Colton throwing his hat in for AQHYA President and Layni vying for a spot on the executive committee.

OQHYA is one of the largest affiliate organizations, and the most award-winning. Last year, the youth brought home more world show titles and globes than any other state and the plan is to do the same in 2024! The AQHYA World Show committees are established, with Caden Craft leading Stall Decorating, Emily Craft heading up Scrapbook, Isabella Hamilton chairing T-Shirts, and Layni Wills is in charge of Boots and Jeans.

So far, OQHYA has had a great year and we look forward to continuing our journey!

Our Spring Extravaganza Show was a huge success and our Level 1 show again exceeded our expectations. Thank you to OQHA for donating the amateur and youth all around saddles. Stalls and electric are sold out for the Six Pack Circuit (June 12-16), held at Findlay Western Farm. We are looking forward to good times, circuit awards in all classes, all around awards, and great food. NOQHA’s exhibitors party will be held on Saturday night. A pizza party and taco party are also on the agenda. Thank you to OQHA Affiliate Relations for your donation.

The youth sold popcorn for a spring fund raiser and set a new sales record! Their t-shirts sales will have a new re-designed logo including the year, making them a collector’s item. Sweatshirts and t-shirts are available in adult and youth sizes.

Our Fall Extravaganza (August 23, 24 & 25) will be held at Garwood Arena, Columbiana. A reminder that we have added a day to this show.

OQHA Queen - Sidney Hawk

It has been a very exciting couple of weeks for me, representing the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. Beginning in April, I was able to attend the Equine Affaire, not only as a Queen but as an exhibitor as well, taking my horse Tj Smokin Silverado down to Columbus to compete in their Versatile Horse and Rider competition. I certainly didn’t expect the outcome, but Tj handled everything so well and even brought us home the championship! The weekend was filled with meeting new people and visiting familiar ones.

Since Equine Affaire, I was able to visit the AQHA Level 1 East championship show alongside Congress Queen Jessica Blevins, where I was taught the ropes of how to become a better representative for OQHA and how I can prepare for upcoming events. I have a very busy summer planned out, traveling and representing the Association, and I am excited to see what I can learn along the way to best prepare me for the Congress Queen competition in the fall. If you run into me at future events, please make sure to stop and say hello! Good luck to everyone on the rest of their show season!

Mid-Ohio Dressage show season is in full swing! The Show Committee has strived to build a show season for all levels of riders in central Ohio, which includes schooling shows, recognized shows, and western dressage shows, recognized by both WDAA and AQHA. The Mid-Ohio Classic, our largest recognized show held each year in July, is celebrating its 45th year! An ice cream social and raffle are planned to celebrate this notable milestone. Another popular event is the East Meets West show, held in September, which features western dressage on Saturday and classical dressage on Sunday at the same location. Show dates are listed on the Mid-Ohio Dressage Association webpage and prize lists can be found on ShowSecretary.com for each show.

The Board recently approved several changes to the Year End Award requirements for MODA members, in an effort to enhance the experience. These changes include eliminating the cost to register a member’s horse in the award program. Additionally, scores will now be accepted from WDAA-recognized shows, as well as breed-specific shows that are USEF-recognized. Rider Performance Awards will now also include western dressage riders.

The Ohio State Buckskin Association started their season off strong at Bullen Equestrian Center in Eaton, Ohio on May 18-19 with the Buckskin Memorial Classic.

Featuring a great turnout and very warm weather, the show was a hit! We are now looking forward to our Red, White, & Buckskin Show, held at Champions Center in Springfield, Ohio, July 6-7.

For more information about OSBA, follow us on Facebook or visit our website, www.ohiobuckskins.org.

OMIQHA started off the season with a March Warm Up show that was a complete stall sell out and had 1,361 entries per judge. The classes were all huge, we want to thank all the participants for creating such a great show for us. The Easter Egg Toss was a success as usual, the arena was packed with participants. Everyone loved the fresh donuts, coffee, and juice in the morning, pizza in the evening, and subs and cake on Sunday. We had a wide range of vendors to check out from our photographer Timeless Treasures to leather goods from HV Leather to drinks from Bucking Barista. We can’t thank our sponsors enough for all they do to allow us to put on the kind of show we want, the best weekend show in Ohio.

The June Summer SunSation show is fast approaching, with moving it to Garwood Arena in Columbiana. This will be a good move for us, allowing us to have more stalls to fill, as they are expanding stall amounts, and new riding areas and camping. We will once again try to have the usual food and fun, we will have the ballon toss in the arena with the top three teams splitting $250; this activity has no entry fee. There will be plenty of class giveaways, all awards are set up, and we will announce the scholarship winners at the show. We will have several vendors there to get your needs from.

We are looking forward to a fantastic show at Garwood Arena, hope to see you all there.
