Sport Management Major WHY SPORT MANAGEMENT? Sport management is an applied field of study based on the integration of sports, management theory, and administrative principles. Sport management includes any combination of skills related to planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating within the context of an organization or department whose primary product or service is related to sport. Established in 1966, ours was the first of its kind in the United States. A business degree with an emphasis on sport, our program is recognized as the premier professional training program for candidates seeking careers in the sport industry.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS The College of Business has a selective admission policy for freshman and transfer applicants. ✓✓ Excellent high school record including extracurricular activities, work experience, and community involvement. ✓✓ Top 20 percent of their high school graduating class. ✓✓ Top 30 percent of those taking the SAT or ACT.

The undergraduate program at OHIO gives you the academic preparation and practical training required for success in the sport industry. Part business, part major-specific coursework, you’ll earn a Bachelor of Sport Management and a lifetime of career skills. Focus your studies with one of the following specializations: business (marketing, data analytics, accounting, or finance), business minor (marketing, or finance), certificate program (sales, women and gender studies, environmental studies, or entrepreneurship), or the facility and event management specialized track.

Get Involved STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS At the College of Business, we believe that the learning experience extends outside the classroom. Explore your interests through clubs, organizations, and select programs. In addition, the Department of Sports Administration offers sport-focused opportunities to enhance your education. Join the first professional sport management fraternity in the nation, Sigma Alpha Sigma Mu; and check out the Sports Business Association, the International Sport Agent Organization, Women in Sport, or the Analytics Club to diversify your undergraduate experience.

EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES Don’t wait until after graduation to get started on your career path. Take advantage of your skills and education to begin your future today by getting involved in one of these hands-on opportunities: Work with students from around the country to develop new ways to drive tickets sales for the San Diego Padres in the San Diego Sports Consulting Project, travel abroad and meet executives from Adidas and Puma with the Germany Global Consulting Program, or play an administrative role for the Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball team in Athens, Ohio.


Career Management The College of Business has great relationships with recruiters throughout the region and the nation, and the Department of Sports Administration has an active network of thousands of alumni that provide a significant number of job and internship opportunities to Ohio University students.
