Made in Italy THE SALVATORE FERRAGAMO BAG, A MASTERPIECE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

Wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo bag means not only owning a unique accessory, but also keeping alive a fascinating, ancient craft that still survives to offer the greatest exclusivity available.

Workmanship made up of slow, careful, encoded gestures that are the fruit of a typically Tuscan artisanal expertise, which won over Salvatore Ferragamo himself when he established his atelier in Florence.

From the paper pattern to cutting, sewing and assembly to finishing, details and customisation, all materials and work are strictly ‘Made in Italy’ and guarantee the added value of absolute quality.

‘Made to Order’ styles are part of a service that provides exclusive and maximum customisation, from the choice of the material and colour to the accessory finish, with personalised engraving.

MISS OHLALA! The Boy Toy and the Cheetah

The first rule about dating a boy toy is you don’t fall in love with a boy toy. There are many benefits of dating a younger man, but just don’t take it too seriously because honey, he’s got nothing but time and you on the other hand are running out of it. Reality bites, you will rarely win this one. I know what your thinking? It seems to be going just fine for the likes of Jlo and Madonna and the rest of cougar town, the phenomenon of dating younger men has been somewhat normalized. So if you were getting fed up about not meeting the right man, you are probably thinking, he isn’t even born yet! So for the sake of distinction, this article is to discuss the relationship between the boy toy and the Cheetah (A) and not the Cougar (B), as the dynamics may not be the same. (A) Cheetah is a woman in her late 20’s or 30’s dating a man 5-10 years her senior. She is looking for a life partner and still has not formed a family. (B) Cougar is a woman in her 40’s or 50’s who has already been married, usually has children and is looking to have a good time. Pros • He will be grateful. He will look at you with awe and be so happy you let him in to your life. He will be intimidated thus at his best manners all the time. • He will boost your self-esteem. He will look at you with desire and make you feel like all those age defying moisturisers are not, as your mother says, a waste of money. • He will make you feel smart. You are more experienced, better travelled and have been working for longer years. Therefore everything you say is golden and must be true. A toy boy will not argue with you because he will assume you are right - which (let’s face it) clearly you are! • He will make you feel rich – your apartment is fully furnished, your walk in closet is rammed with designer clothes you never wear, you pay for OSN full package with all the channels (only because you have to get the whole package to get E!) and 34

OHLALA!

you grocery shop at Megamart and Monoprix. Warning: he will never invite you over to his place and may never ever leave yours. • He will make you feel young again as you vicariously live through his stories, you find out about hip new venues and get exposed to fashions you probably would have never come across. And suddenly you know all the lyrics to the songs on the top 40s. Cons • He will rarely mingle with your friends. He can deal with one old foggy but a whole bunch of them may be too much for him to handle. • He will never pay for dinner. Okay you don’t want to be old fashioned but isn’t it hard to respect a man who disappears every time the bill comes to the table? • He will unintentionally make you feel old. Like the day after a heavy night of partying he gets out of bed, goes for a jog, makes it to work on time, then meets up with friends and starts all over again. He rings you to join for drinks and finds out that you still haven’t left your bed. Thankful for that OSN now huh! • He will leave you. Or maybe you will leave him. But it will end because you want different things. At the end of the day you are an experiment and he knows ultimately that when he is ready to settle down, he will choose a younger girl that makes him feel smart, rich, and manly. Every rule may have an exception, but in general I would make sure to keep my feelings in check when enjoying the company of a boy toy. Keep it short and sweet, and move on before he does. Tata for now, until next time. Miss Ohlala!

Who is your style icon? I like classy and elegant women, just like Jacqueline Kennedy, Angelina Jolie, Monica Bellucci – neat, feminine, soft and sexy. They always look pretty and elegant no matter what they wear. I think the best style was in 60s or 70s.

How do you take your look from day to night? For work I wear a suit or smart dress, which can be transformed into an evening look with stronger makeup, stylish accessories and high heels. 40

Tell us a little bit about the vision and inspiration behind Maison du Maillot? We launched the Maison du Maillot e-boutique early this year. It offers contemporary swimwear from the most stylish international brands to the region whilst remaining affordable to our customers. The website is tailored for the Middle East consumer, which means it has next day GCC delivery, free returns and a lifestyle blog for the region. Both of us are sun-worshippers who love to travel, enjoy spending time at the beach and taking part in water sports (Leila is a keen surfer, while Fifi spends all her free time at the beach!) Why did you decide to offer beachwear as opposed to all fashion garments? We have really struggled to find swim and beachwear here in the GCC and with the nearly year round sun and beach lifestyle it made sense to source items that we all want in this part of the world; bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, beach bags,

THE CAUSE

Fighting the Big ‘C’ The Bahrain Cancer Society (BCS) ‘fights’ to improve the lives of people living with cancer. Ohlala! talks to the group to find out what programs they have to tackle the perceived dreaded disease.

L

et’s face it. No one wants to hear ‘that’ word, whether it’s from your doctor, a family member, friend or even from someone you don’t know at all. Yet, we all know someone who has cancer, died because of it, or is a survivor. This ‘knowledge’ however, does not lessen the impact when you hear about another person who has been diagnosed. Cancer affects not only the person with the disease, but the whole family; and to a larger extent their friends, colleagues and the community. This is where Bahrain Cancer Society (BCS) 44

plays a vital role in. Established in 1989 as a voluntary nonprofitable organisation, organises seminars and workshops “to educate patients, medical staff, and concerned officials in order to assume their responsibilities and their role in the fight against cancer.” Speaking with Ahmed Ali al Nowakda, Secretary General for BCS, tells us that, “the Society works hard to provide education and information to the public about the causes of cancer, the treatments available and various methods of prevention. “The Society has also been supporting relevant research

studies undertaken by individuals or institute and providing training for individuals participating in the field of cancer prevention.” For over twenty years since its inception, BCS have successfully expanded its membership base to include stakeholders, who are involved in all aspects of the fight against cancer. With five committees, the Society carries out its objectives to actively pursue the following: Information and Education, Fundraising, Researches and Studies, Social Activities and Cancer Patient Support. With the public’s support and generous donations from various individuals and corporate donors, BCS have raised funds and donated vital medical equipment to Salmaniya Medical Complex for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. One of their programs – Breast Cancer Screening, which started in August 2005 – educates women about the importance of breast self-examination and the significance of early breast disease detection. Through the Program, the Society, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Batelco, launched the National Campaign for the Early Detection of Breast Disease. Hold That Pose!

Jalil Marvin has an eye-catching style, and a devotion to his craft that helps to distinguish his unique talent – the very reason why we sought an Ohlala! interview.

This fashion and conceptual photographer seems to possess a crisp, clear-eyed, uncompromising directness with his compositions. Born in Kuwait in 1989 to an Iranian father and a Filipino mother, Jalil spent half of his life growing up in both the Philippines and Kuwait. Being part of these three infused cultures only adds to his world vision. “I don’t limit myself to a four-wall space,” offers Jalil. “I love to consider the environment as my studio. My eyes keep wandering around – I love observing people, objects, light, emotions, behaviour and actions. These things keep me going, they get me thinking and coming up with ideas and concepts. Ideas come to my mind more often than words come out of my mouth,” he enthuses.

Art & culture Contact Jalil Marvin via email: jalilmarvin@gmail. com or call +965 514 69511; or visit www.jalilmarvin. com or Instagram: @jalilmarvin

Jalil looks at photography as a way for him to communicate his “subconscious to the conscious. To express a compelling narrative that evokes strong elements of emotions – this is at the core of my work,” Jalil expresses. Adding his own lavish vision on any subject he captures, Jalil employs a host of techniques to create his pictures. “I love it to be theatrical at times as film is a huge inspiration for me,” he says. The work that he does for fashion editorials is a case in point. Jalil is able to merge fine art and commerce and turn them into whimsical but incisive forms. “All of my fashion editorial shoots are planned carefully. I go into a shoot with an idea, a feeling, a message. When some elements don’t go according to plan, my team and I troubleshoot the problem. Say if a dress isn’t working, I move on to the next shot instead of trying to fix the dress and wasting time,” Jalil describes his work process. Starting his photographic journey from a young age, Jalil remembers his very first camera – a compact film Ricoh – that he took to school field trips, family gatherings and other interesting occasions. Getting his hands on a DSLR camera while at university, he continued pursuing his passion for photography and joined the university publication as a photojoutnalist, honing his craft until he was made the associate editor. www.ohlala-magazine.com

After graduation, Jalil worked as an assistant to Niccolo Cosme, one of the Philippines’ most prominent fashion photographers. “That experience was an eye-opener for me. It was what triggered my love for the glamourous world of fashion photography,” he recalls. This young talent has come a long way from his internship days. He has gone behind the lens to take photos of some of the most well known celebrities in the region. One of his projects included a collaboration with Bahraini fashion designer Khaleda Rajab – Ohlala!’s infamous February 2014 cover – and her Kuwaiti business

partner Fahad Al Marzouq. “It was great. I worked with both of them for their Linda Farrow Sunglasses design. I think everybody loved it, including the London-based Linda Farrow herself,” quips Jalil. With a string of successful stints under his belt, Jalil hopes to be internationally recognised for his talents and dreams of one day being able to do a shoot with international supermodel Coco Rocha. “I admire her energy on set,” he says. Whatever he sets his mind to, one thing is certain: Jalil’s body of work have shown him to be an adventurous and devilishly clever master of display – definitely a talent to watch out for. OHLALA!

Living the Aqua Dream Breaking an official world record for kite surfing around the island of Bahrain, Ohlala! chats with Anke Brandt, the lady who made her goal a reality.

A

Words by Sana Alibux

n exciting moment for our very own nation, Anke Brandt broke an official world record, completing a distance of approximately 11 hours and 55 minutes on a kite surf. She initially ventured into the water at 6am for the kite surfing challenge around Bahrain. Later, Anke landed in Jarada Island at 6pm hitting the 250-kilometre mark. Anke expressed how she felt about her following success, “It feels really good! It was mainly a team achievement – the team made it possible and we are bonded forever because of this. It was an achievement that occurred through unity; a real dream of ours that came to life.” Speaking to Anke was a breath of fresh air; it reminded myself of the simple passions in life that impact us in every way. “It’s a lifestyle,” she says excitedly, “not a profession, but a drive which is important to have in life as a means to having fun and continue challenging yourself.” Her passionate sense of self comes from the forces of nature, which fascinates Anke, as it is always a new adventure; a different tide, a different location, and is never boring. It all started with her enthusiasm for windsurfing, which made her grow fond of water sports, so she learned kite surfing in Bahrain four years ago. She goes on to discuss her favourite inspiration of all time: ‘Enable Passion.’ This team managed to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Spain to the Caribbean Islands, in December of last year. Anke had applied for this challenge and came to be in the finals, being chosen in the last top six selected for this adventure of a 48

OHLALA!

lifetime. However, it wasn’t possible to make it to the last three due to the Kite surfing community in Bahrain, which is small and the amount of votes were not sufficient. Let’s change this for Anke, next time around! Not only does Anke grace us with an impressive achievement a woman in Bahrain has managed to accomplish, but she also knows how to provide real feel-good life advice. “Life isn’t about the nine-to-five job; do what is important for you and have fun!” Very wise words indeed. We tend to not challenge ourselves enough, especially as females, as Anke also explains, it is important to pursue what you like or what you enjoy despite the fact it may be a male-dominant activity. Go for it! Unfortunately, Bahrain is not the most ideal location to perform this challenge, however with her team in strong support, it was possible for Anke to conquer the island, “It was tough,” she expresses to me stalling in speech, “I had to go downwind and then backwind just to go around the island. It was so worth it – doing something you love, living your dream, and being a part of a great team was the best part of my challenge.” All the hard work was pulled off because of a unified effort. Anke also had some great tips to share for women in the Gulf trying to get into watersports. “Just get out and do it!” she exclaims, “but take your time and make friends while you’re on this adventure. Find something you really like and that you can do everyday naturally, just have fun!” She also says not to fear the water, however intimidating it may seem, and to enjoy any activity.

Diane birch

A well-travelled Singer Mainstream recognition may have come slowly to Diane Birch but to the musically aware, hers is a name that conjures up creative soul and piano focused blues. With her latest album release, Speak A Little Louder, out now, Ben Whittaker caught up with the singer-songwriter to find out how things fare in the “Church of Birch”.

Celebrity Scoop

I

t’s been eight years since the talented singer-songwriter Diane Birch was first discovered playing piano at the Beverly Hills Hotel by none other than, Prince. A lot has changed for this much-travelled artist. She’s had a hit album, become a darling of the critics and also suffered personal tragedy. But all these experiences have helped to shape her latest release. “I had a bit of journey-man existence as a child, moving from Michigan where I was born, to Zimbabwe, South Africa and then Australia, before returning to the States when I was ten. “My father was a Seventh-Day Adventist preacher and his work took him to several countries so we moved around a lot. I think living in so many culturally distinct places helped broaden my horizons and provided a lot more fuel to creative pursuits. “Moving around means you get used to saying “goodbye” and I guess it made me more isolated in some ways because I never believed anything was going to be permanent. But as part of me went inwards, so I began to create my own reality. I learned to play more classically inspired pieces on the piano when I was in Africa and it left it’s mark on my writing, when I began to pen my own compositions.” However, there is no doubting that the most influential personality in her life was her father and losing him to cancer last year was an emotionally crushing experience. “You can’t really understand losing someone of that magnitude in your life until it actually happens and I wouldn’t wish the experience on anyone. My father was a huge music fan and it was really he that introduced me to music. In turn that was probably what made my learning the piano when I was seven so much easier.” When she returned to the States, her musical exposure naturally widened because her access to music changed. “When I was a teenager I liked a lot of “Goth” music – stuff like Joy Division, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy.

I moved from the Church of Light to the Church of Darkness,” she jokes. “I guess now you could say I’m in the Church of Birch!” With her new album, Speak A Little Louder, how does she think she has changed musically? “Fans of my first album, Bible Belt might be a little surprised by the different sound here. If anything it’s got more of a modern rock vibe going on. I wanted to experiment and for me it’s as much about the development of my own personality as it is my music.” But there’s also pain in the weave of these compositions and the passing of her father is certainly reflected in many of the songs. “There’s a lot of heartbreak on this album for me. It’s also about being misunderstood and the frustrations that surround you as a person when you feel people don’t believe in you. My father was always my biggest supporter and much of what he represented and what I have lost speaks out in my music.” Since she first came to prominence, the industry has changed quite a bit, and Birch realises the positives technology can deliver to an artist. “Everything has changed so quickly. It’s almost a different landscape completely now. The power has certainly shifted back to the artist in many ways and whilst there isn’t so much money around any more, social media has expanded the reach of many musicians and it’s simpler to connect with your fans. “Personally I can express myself so much better via the web. I’m still broke but I have a platform that I can remain in control of,” she smiles. “Anyone coming into this business to make money needs to realise that for the majority, the big bucks just aren’t there. “Ultimately, you get out what you put in and hard work rewards. If you want an easy ride or are looking for a fast track route to fame, then you’re on the wrong career path.” Visit dianebirch.com

Copy Kate’s look with her take on summertime ‘60’s style chic. 1. Moisturise the skin, then apply primer and an illuminating foundation to create a good base. 2. Dust some bronze shadow across the lids, and then top it with a generous sprinkle of rose-gold glitter in the centre. 3. To give your skin a sun-kissed glow, you need just a touch of colour. Get a rose or a peach-coloured cream blush and apply on the apples of the cheeks. 4. Get Kate’s sexy eye makeup by applying black liquid eyeliner, carefully doing quick feline eye flicks. 5. Afterwards, swipe a few coats of black mascara on the upper and lower lashes. 6. Finish off with a clear high shine gloss on lips. 72

Tanned Beauty Sophie Martin-Teillard, Vice President of Marketing for Lancaster beauty products, offers tips on how to create that holiday glow you love – any time of the year!

Most women feel their most beautiful when they are back from holidays – beautifully tanned, with skin all aglow. Lancaster’s ‘Holidays on Demand’ concept lets you escape to your dream destination whenever you want to, to give your mind and your skin, a holiday!

Sophie Martin-Teillard’s beauty tips for best results: 1. Exfoliate: to smoothen the skin’s texture and remove dead cells that prevent you from achieving an even finish. 2. Hydrate: you cannot create a beautiful, even and luminous result on dry and rough skin. Generously apply plumping skincare the day before your self-tanning session. 3. Be methodical: apply your product in an upward direction all over the body, in broad smoothing movements, then go over the same areas making small circular movements. The same applies to the www.ohlala-magazine.com

face: make smoothing strokes from the centre of the face outwards, and then little circular movements. Avoid the hairline and eyebrows. Wash your hands after each application. 4. Dose: certain areas require less tan than others, such as the eye contour area. To dilute its effect, apply an eye contour cream before your self-tanner. 5. Reapply as desired: daily for an intense tan, or every two or three days for a more subtle result.

A Sportif Heritage Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s collection for Lacoste for Spring-Summer 2014 is a clever celebration of all things tennis: A suede shift with dropped waist and pert side pleats; the terracotta of a clay court – one of the collection’s base colours – with the lines of the court duplicated on the piping on a polo shirt. Baptista toys with the lines and balances the sensuality of crunchy knits and sheath dresses in rugby stripes of solid and sheer.

S

pring in Bahrain may be known for all the amazing cultural events on offer, but it is also the season for the island’s biggest motoring events. There’s so much to discuss with many new launches, races, and motoring initiatives, or course we must start with the biggest event on Bahrain’s motoring calendar, the Formula One Grand Prix. Excitement started to build for the event in late February when we saw all the top race teams arrive for testing at the Bahrain International Circuit. Many fans were out at the track and were able to speak with the drivers and get autographs. The big race itself will be held over the fourth, fifth and sixth of April – I’ve booked my tickets well in advance – make sure you get yours to experience the first ever Formula One night race in the Kingdom. This year’s floodlit race marks the landmark tenth anniversary of the opening of BIC, as well as the tenth hosting of the prestigious Bahrain race. Along with the main event, visitors will be treated to plenty of entertainment for the whole family, including performances by Swedish DJ Avicii and legendary rock band The Scorpions. In other news from the BIC, we were lucky to witness an all-star cast of drivers in early March for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge. The finale saw Ashkani, Schmid, Prince Abdulaziz, Sheikh Hasher, Shaikh Salman and Al Attiyah battle it out in the finale. Kuwaiti driver, Zaid Ashkanani proved victorious on the day being crowned the cup champion. The Speed Weekend also showcased the exciting BIC 2,000cc challenge, with first place going to Salah Salahuddin for the second year in a row. In slightly more sobering news, I recently came across a report by the World Health Organisation on road safety that stated that 77 percent of drivers in Bahrain do not use seatbelts… These worrying figures are of even more concern when you consider that it is estimated that wearing of seatbelts could prevent death in approximately half of all fatal accidents. To combat this issue, which is estimated to cost the Bahraini government more than half a million dinars each year, Euro Motors have launched the BMW Groups “Stay Alert. Stay Alive” campaign in Bahrain. It will start by focusing on young student drivers. Paul Yates, general manager of Euro Motors said, “One of the most effective ways to help improve road safety is to try to instil good driving behaviour from an early driving age, which is why we have decided to focus our first addressing on university students. Our aim is to then roll the campaign out to talk to other age groups.” Don’t forget road safety can save lives. Embrace life and buckle up ladies.

The Perfect Host

Visiting from Malaysia in the early 80s, George fell in love with the warmth and hospitality of the island, so much so – that much like many of us – he has never left. He found his calling in the hospitality industry by accident in 2001 and has never looked back. As George is an entertaining and gregarious host his dining establishments have always been transformed into a vibrant hub of social activity – your home away from home. How do you think the dining and entertainment scene has evolved in Bahrain over the years? Back in those days Bahrain already had a good selection of great dining places – now it has evolved into a bit of a gourmet paradise! Entertainment, however, has suffered. Before there were many top foreign acts performing regularly, now aside from the Spring of Culture (like the Eric Clapton event) there’s very little on offer. How do we move forward in the right direction? The dining and entertainment scene requires a constant need to evolve with menus, service, quality and originality. This is tricky, as there seems to be a copycat mentality, whereby if one is doing well everybody else want to jump on the bandwagon. Can it be done successfully? Rarely. What are the secrets to running a restaurant venue in Bahrain? This is simple really, as my mate Paul says: service, service, service! Quality, staff training and product knowledge. Customers do not want to go out for a fun evening to be let down by poor service and inferior quality, it leaves a bad taste. Bahrain has some very discerning clientele, who will not accept inferior products. What do you look for when you’re out dining? www.ohlala-magazine.com

Happy Birthday Ms Aries

Giovanni reveals your destiny…

Aries

The next few weeks are likely to be a bit of a blur for you – although this is kind of a good thing for your sign because you thrive on constant activity and the buzz surrounding new projects and ideas. Over the course of the last few months you have been building your business interests up steadily and around the start of April things are set to really expand in quite a major way. The main issue for you is going to be finding the time to fit everything in and you may well need to turn to someone else for help to ensure all necessary deadlines are met. Travel to somewhere exotic is also on the cards but make sure all your documents are in place before you book anything!

Famous Arians Emma Watson Robert Downey Jr David Tennant James Franco Leonardo Da Vinci Jackie Chan Lady Gaga Kirsten Stewart Ewan Macgregor Michael Fassbender

Cancer

Aries are adventurous and courageous signs, with lively personalities and the versatility to turn their hand to any task put before them. They love the thrill of an adrenalin rush and will often push their luck to achieve this aim. Aries have no fear of trying new challenges and their lively nature is infectious, often inspiring those around them. In general most Aries can be classified as positive and that outlook provides them with a psychological advantage as well as making them very popular in social circles.

Many of you could be in a reflective state of mind this month as you deliberate over recent events in your life that have led you to where you are today. Whilst you might not have too much to really complain about (if you analyse your current situation you will see that this is true) there is one regret that has stayed with you for some time. It might be that you need to finally address this issue because in some way it has held you back and even perhaps influenced your decisions over the last few years. A little like an itch you have never been quite able to scratch, 2014 should be the year that you get it sorted once and for all.

Taurus

Leo

Aries at a Glance

When it comes to romance there are few signs who can match your enthusiasm for matters of the heart and this month you will be focusing on little else because a certain special person has really taken a hold of your emotions. Be sure not to rush in feet first and take your time. The individual in question – whilst interested – is the type of person who likes the chase associated with any new relationship so try and be patient. On the health front, if that pain in your leg is still bothering you then get it checked out. It might be more than just a muscular problem and someone with experience needs to look at it.

Gemini

Last month it was relationships that were top of your “problems to solve” list but this month things appear to have calmed down in that area only for a new set of financial concerns to have arisen that will put you in a difficult situation where family is concerned. Your earnings have taken a hit recently and the impact this is having on everyday life is starting to affect everyone. You may have to put some rather drastic emergency measures in place for the short term until you manage to dig yourself out of this particular hole. It won’t last forever but it could be a tough ride, for the next few weeks at least. www.ohlala-magazine.com

If you’ve been under pressure from financial and emotional burdens then the good news is that things are going to get a lot easier in the next few weeks when many of your problems are blown away as a partner’s good fortune impacts on you in a positive manner. This might clear a little of the debris that has obstructed your long term view just recently and you will be able to better organise your thoughts towards future plans with a little more confidence and conviction. Travel, career development and even a change of address are all on the cards over the course of the next month so prepare yourself for a lot of movement across a number of different levels.

Virgo

The last couple of weeks have seen many of you really turn your lives around from the somewhat troubled states they were in. Suddenly the world looks like a much more positive place to be and as a consequence you are going to see a fleet of opportunities open up before you. A recent improvement at work will have a knock-on effect from a financial perspective (which is good thing since your finances have taken a hit since the turn of the year) and you may be tempted to splash out.

Libra

Many of you may have felt like you’ve been pinned beneath a weight of emotional pressure recently as the burden of trying to keep your head above water during difficult times has threatened to suffocate you. You will be relieved to discover that things are going to be a little more manageable throughout April, although you will still have some tricky negotiations to navigate before you’re completely “out of the dark”. However, the basic message is that it’s getting better and for those around you that is also likely to be seen as a good sign since you have been a little difficult to live with of late!

Scorpio

You should be feeling so much better about yourself and the circumstances you find your life in right now and yet for many of you, that just doesn’t appear to be the case. Perhaps you’re struggling with internal confidence issues; maybe you’re just aren’t looking at the bigger picture? Whatever the reasons for your dilemma, the one thing you need to find and quickly is some driving motivation. You are currently sitting at the centre of a huge series of opportunities and yet you just can’t seem to grasp the benefits that surround you. If you need to talk to someone – even though that isn’t in your nature – then consider it. Once lost, these chances won’t come around again!

Sagittarius

It’s going to hit you like a bit of a thunderbolt this month but you’re suddenly going to realise that the “one that got away” in your life is still quite a significant factor for you. It will dawn on you when you happen to bump into each other at a forthcoming function and you may have to come to terms with some difficult decisions over how you deal with those feelings. On a separate matter, there could be cause for concern for those of you with children as a medical condition that was thought to be fairly innocuous turns out to be a little more serious than was first believed.

Capricorn

Of all the signs in the Zodiac, your sign is traditionally one of the hardest working. But even by your standards you’ve been doing quite a lot more than should be expected of anyone and so it will come as a very pleasant surprise when a loving partner decides to treat you to a trip away. Even though it might mean letting some deadlines slip, take them up on the offer because even though you might not realise it, you’ve been burning the candle at both ends for so long that you are not that far off wearing yourself out! Be a devil and enjoy yourself!

Aquarius

If only a few months ago someone had told you that you would be in with a shot of actually achieving what you want to do with your life career-wise, you would probably have greeted their suggestions with derision. A lot can happen in a short space of time and in your case it definitely has. Whilst pressures may have hampered your progress where family and finances are concerned, work is a completely different matter and you will be celebrating some high profile achievements before the month is out but make sure you build on these achievements or your success will be short-lived.

Pisces

Sometimes you just can’t help yourself. Even though you know you shouldn’t say something you let it slip out nevertheless and then wonder what all the commotion is about afterwards. This month is going to perfectly illustrate the point after a statement made in anger sees you isolating someone you care for and you may not even realise what you have done until it is pointed out to you later. If you don’t move to rectify matters quickly you may find that it’s beyond a solution, so don’t hang about with the apologies and hope the person concerned is in the right mood to accept the gesture. ait, munch, munch, as she delicately chews down the last bite of her big, juicy, burger. “What were you saying Sophie, burgers are bad for your health and the environment? Listen Sophie, I only have four burgers a week, what is the big deal? You talk about fossil fuels and carbon emissions, cholesterol, ‘intoler’ what ‘ances’, don’t even know the word, and, and I feel fine. Sure I am overweight and feel tired all day, and yeah I usually want to sleep after lunch, but seriously, I am fine. Sophie you are always on about being more aware about oneself, what does that have to do with burgers and carbon emissions and that ‘intoler’ something ‘ances’?” “You know it is all about awareness,” Sophie replies consciously. “Seeing the bigger picture or broader angle, the wider scope of things. The world is bigger than the length of your nose. The way my pretty head sees it, is that World Earth Day is something holistic, something integral, something all encompassing; everything we can think of and mixed in with balance. Maybe it is even a Universal Law – then again balance is perception too. Your balance might not be mine and vice versa. World Earth (and health) starts within your mind, a healthy mind that is aware of itself first and foremost, after which the rest will come. It is a much easier path than trying to be aware of our surroundings, with an unaware mind or for a better word, consciousness. Everything in life is a network, it is all connected in some form or another – contemplate ‘the butterfly effect.’ World Earth Day is recognising that everything on this planet is linked, striving to maintain equilibrium. Much the same as when we walk, a constant battle between falling down and standing up – stability wins, else we would not walk. Let’s be more aware of balance of the world, which starts within you and expands globally and universally for unification. Open the scope of your mind…
